Re: Sony to begin Stooge DVD sets
Maybe the Shemp sets haven't sold as well. Regardless, I think they'll release them all. I posted many months ago in this thread that I disliked Shemp, but after watching Vol. 5 he really wasn't as bad as I remembered, so I purchased Vol. 6 but haven't watched it yet.

Volume 7 has appeared on ClassicFlix. I feel safer that November 10th is the date knowing that a site such as ClassicFlix, who have never been wrong with these volumes, has put this news up on their site.

Are you saying you dont care about ending Shemp early? After this volume there'll still be 16 un-released Shemp shorts, and on the following volume (V8) assuming you'll want to see Shemp through, it'll have the first 8 Besser shorts (along with Shemp's 16), that might look weird in your collection, so you'll want to buy the remaining Besser shorts... Just saying is all. :D2:

Re: Sony to begin Stooge DVD sets
Well the long-standing rumor is that Vol. 8 will finish up with Shemp and also include his series of solo comedy shorts he did for Columbia.
Then Vol. 9 will wrap up the series with the 16 Bessers and his solo Columbia shorts as well. I'm sure that may be wishful thinking but that was the initial plan from Sony. |

Re: Sony to begin Stooge DVD sets
Update with cover art here:
http://www.classicflix.com/three-sto...54-p-9119.html Evidently the 3D versions of the 2 films will be included and the set will include 2 pairs of 3d glasses. |
Re: Sony to begin Stooge DVD sets
The 3-D shorts will be anaglyph (red/cyan or some variation) conversions if they are included; the original versions were shown in polarized form (clear glasses).
In any case, hopefully the anaglyph conversions will be better than the horrible ones they created for Super 8mm and TV broadcast years ago. |
Re: Sony to begin Stooge DVD sets
There was a post from the owner of HomeTheaterForum that revealed that Volume 8 would be the final volume of the series, which would run from 1955-1959 and contain the remaining 16 Shemp shorts and the 16 Joe Besser shorts to total 32 shorts in a possible three-disc set, which is not a bad idea.
IF a V9 does comes out, that one should ONLY contain all the Shemp and Joe SOLO shorts and I'm figuring the box cover art for V8 will be a bright red since that hasn't been used as of yet. More info at www.threestooges.net and check the forums with Vol. 7 information on it. |
Re: Sony to begin Stooge DVD sets
Quick Update from the owner of HomeTheaterForum who just talked to someone at Sony about Volume 8 and this was the response I received:
The answer I have just received is that it would include all 32 shorts. That is currently the plan, it may change, but Sony doesn't think it will. Past short collections should have had as many as 32 shorts. No date of release or color of the cover. Those are all the answers I can provide you with right now. So there you have it...32 shorts for Volume 8 (the last remaining 16 Shemp and 16 Joe shorts) and everything else would be TBD for the final volume in the series. I'll keep everyone posted on this as I find out more info. Take care. |
Re: Sony to begin Stooge DVD sets
Frankly I'm indifferent to the Shemp and Joe solo's. If they're going to give me a volume 9, give me the feature films. I have no problem with them keeping it a strictly Stooges series.

Re: Sony to begin Stooge DVD sets
As happy as I am about the 3D, I'm more impressed that they're going to be in OAR.

Re: Sony to begin Stooge DVD sets
I waited this long, might as well wait for the eventual series box set.

Re: Sony to begin Stooge DVD sets
OAR is pretty cool. I didn't realize the Stooges made any widescreen shorts.
I'd also like to see the feature films remastered as someone else mentioned. |
Re: Sony to begin Stooge DVD sets
For the extremely thick, like myself, what does "Oar" stand for?
