Hey, give Shemp a chance - he had a different vibe, but I think he's extremely funny. Can't disagree on Curly Joe, however - only the completist in me will want to pick these up. |

Shemp's my favorite third Stooge, so I hope not everyone has the mindset that the Curly-era are the only shorts worthwhile to own.
I'd hate to see the remaining shorts abandoned due to lackluster sales since for some reason, a lot of Stooge fans are Curly or bust. Say what you want, but I personally enjoy some of the Besser's moreso than a couple of the sick-era Curly's. For $20 a pop with hours of entertainment, you can't go wrong owning all of theses sets. |
I'll still be buying all of them, but like I said, mostly for Moe and Larry. Shemp is OK in small doses for me. Going to be tough watching those DVD's straight through. Joe and those reincarnation shorts...ugh.
|
Yeah, I love the Stooges but they should have retired once Shemp died. Moe & Larry were getting too old by that point that most of the physical stuff was getting lesser & lesser. I've always pereferred the Curly ones. I'll see if I enjoy the Shemp ones enough to get more beyond set 5. I remember thinking he was OK but wouldn't make a point of catching them as I would with Curly shorts.

If these sets continue wonder if they will do the recycled Shemps. After Shemp got sick they would take a short and re-issue it, re-edited with minor new footage and a new title. Although the Joe shorts aren't near as funny there are several outer space/mad scientist ones with some really cool monsters.

After he died, there were still four shorts left on his Columbia contract so Joe Palma filled in for Shemp in "new scenes", then they just recycled old footage. They're counted in the official count of 190 short subjects, so they will issue those. |

Don't want them all if they suck "like Curly Joe episodes do" i will never watch them, why own a dvd if you are never gonna watch it, many of my dvd's i have the first 1 or 2 movie's in a franchise then forget the rest cuz they suck, for instance like Superman 3 & 4, love the first 2 and the new 1 Superman Returns but 3 and 4 were garbage, i'm glad i'm not a completest it's more money you have to spend on worthless dvd's and they take up space. |

Why buy something that will just sit on my shelf and never be touched? If you wan't to do that, that's ok. But i'm not going to buy something that i'll never use. |
You all keep referring to Joe Besser as Curly Joe. He was not.
Curly Joe DeRita was the 4th person to play that 3rd spot from 1958 to 1975, all in their movies. Chris |
Well, there some who buy the garbage just to keep the whole series.
I too have my limits. I won't buy GREASE 2 or SMOKEY & THE BANDIT 3. But the 3 STOOGES with Joe are not that bad. I remember in the 70's my friends found the Joe stooge funny and thought he was portraying a gay character. |

Re: Sony to begin Stooge DVD sets
Here's the front cover art:
http://www.hometheaterforum.com/rons...overs/tts5.jpg Not a bad cover - they figured to milk Curly for as long as possible. Some will have wanted Shemp to get more real estate. |
Re: Sony to begin Stooge DVD sets
I actully loved Shemp more than Curly. For some reason as a kid, these are the shorts they mainly showed late night. However I DESPISED that Joe and wanted him dead. He truly angered me and ruined the stooges. I will not buy a set with that piece of shit. Even the Stooge movie proved my beliefs; he was shit.
Anyone know the short (is it a curly or shemp) where they have a restaurant and the customers think theyre serving animals/pets to eat? Great cover art by the way. I love how they stick with the same theme and just change up the colors. Ive only seen volume 1, I got the others but havent had time to see them. |

As to the short you're referring to, it's the public domain "Malice in the Palice", and the remake without Shemp (Joe Palma plays the Fake Shemp) is "Rumpus in the Harem". |
Re: Sony to begin Stooge DVD sets
Volume 5 looks great. I sure will pick this up

Re: Sony to begin Stooge DVD sets
Which season would have Moe, Larry & Shemp as cavemen?
The one where they fight other cavemen for their women. Moe and Larry rig up a catapult to fire mud pies and big rocks at their enemy. Which season would have that episode? |

FYI - They're not "Seasons".
