Re: Sony to begin Stooge DVD sets

The last word was not until Summer. None of shorts for the last volume have ever been released on home video. Consequently they all need a lot of cleanup.

Re: Sony to begin Stooge DVD sets

I'm figuring the 8th and final volume will be released either in May or June of this year, seeing May would mark three years since Volume 1 was released back in 2007 and from what I heard, this final volume will contain the remaining 16 Shemp shorts and the 16 Joe shorts and that will be it. Color of the box might be in silver or black but not certain of that. Those last shorts need cleaning up though.

I'm hoping for another volume after that with the movies.

Just finished Vol. 7 tonight. Goof on the Roof is hilarious, probably my favorite Shemp short.

That Shemp short was the best of them all!

I love the very thorough reviews of the shorts on this site, however, most of my favorites don't merit many stars... I am unfamiliar with the Shemp shorts, so I look up Goof on the Roof.. *1/2... go figure!

Don't pay any attention to the Vol. 7 review on here, it's pretty lousy. The reviewer was giving 4 star ratings to shorts that didn't deserve half that. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

I was not a fan of Shemp having seen some of his shorts years ago. I didn't even plan to buy the Shemp sets. He turned out to be a lot funnier than I remembered.

Shemp is a thousand times better than Joe Besser ever was and even Curly Joe Derita was a bit better. Now, Besser on A&C TV show as Stinky, he was a riot.

Re: Sony to begin Stooge DVD sets

I've been watching some of the Joe Bessar shorts and feature films from the 60's for the very first time. I stopped watching younger, so never made it this far previously.

They are absolutely horrible! Just horrible... It's like having a screwdriver driving straight through my skull.

Now, I enjoyed the 30's/40's Curly shorts like most people in this thread -- when I was a kid. But, I thought Shemp 40's/50's shorts was very average. Not absolutely horrible, but average... This is about the time I stopped watching. During the Shemp period.

However, maybe I should take that back. I never realized how awful these things would actually get in the 50's/60's. They suck and are nearly unwatchable! Swengoulie in Chicago (as his normal self) plays Three Stooges shorts on Saturday nights.

-- They rival Life with Lucy (the '86 show the sent Lucille Ball into a mass depression; she wouldn't leave her house) on the level of worthless dribble. --

1. They ruined the Addams Family with Addams Family 3 and that ghastly mid-late 90's series!

2. Who could forget the atrocious Musters Today 80's and those awful Munsters feature films.

3. Lucy started loosing it mid-way of The Lucy Show -- after Vivian Vance quit, the original I Love Lucy creators all left, and all the kids were fired.

and now the Stooges... Wow, these things suck.

Re: Sony to begin Stooge DVD sets

I could give a damn about Joe as out of the 16 shorts he made, A Merry Mix-Up was the best one of the lot, BUT I just want to complete this series and be done with it, as there's only 32 shorts that remain. I heard they (SONY) need to provide some TLC in restoring these shorts, so I'm thinking it would be released in late summer or early fall to finish the set off, but that's just an opinion.

Re: Sony to begin Stooge DVD sets

Volume 8 is scheduled for June 1: It's labeled as 1955-1959 which would be the rest of Shemps and all of the Joe Bessers -- 32 shorts in all.

Note the running time on VideoETA is not likely correct, if the 1955-1959 holds.

rmw650 03-17-10 10:31 PM

Re: Sony to begin Stooge DVD sets

I alerted VideoETA about that and they're checking with Sony on the total minutes of this set...I hope Sony does a 10...12...10 combination of episodes on three discs (10 Shemp on disc 1, 6 Shemp and 6 Joe on disc 2 and the last 10 Joe shorts on disc 3) instead of cramming 16 each on two discs. I have a feeling this last color box set will be black or silver.

For the shorts, yes. But many of us are hoping for another set with the movies.

Re: Sony to begin Stooge DVD sets

I've heard this is one the best selling sets for Sony so far (Three Stooges overall) but again, hoping they go with that 10-12-10 format to space evetything out and produce the best quality DVD set yet and this will bring the shorts to an end. I'm still hoping for the solo Shemp shorts to come out down the pipeline.

Anyone remember a movie that was done years ago about the Stooges life away from the camera?
It went into how they started out, how they were treated and lied to off of the movie set, etc.
I forget what it was called but i'd like to see that released, anyone remember that movie?

That would be The Three Stooges (2000). It had the Crypt Keeper as Shemp and Michael Chiklis as Curly. It shows up on AMC often.

Is there any word for a collected box set of all the released sets? I have been holding off on buying waiting for a megaset, so I hope my wait has not been in vain.

I'm waiting for a complete box set, too. I hope it'll be out by Christmas, but it most likely won't be out until 2011. If I were to guess.

Re: Sony to begin Stooge DVD sets

Sony just confirmed on its website this wil be a three-disc set scheduled for release on 6/1/2010 and this will be the FINAL volume of the shorts and my opinion, in a black or silver box this time with Shemp as the main cover and Joe in a little circle at the bottom right corner...I hope they're going the 10...12...10 route of distributing these shorts onto the DVDs.
