The DVD is grainy. Very much so in some scenes. People have been watching DVD's on screens that large for years, and if it takes watching on something smaller to make it look better then the DVD's at fault. But even on my 19" LCD the grain was very apparent. Thankfully the right settings in FFDshow will clean it up pretty well, I also have a projector hooked to an HTPC I'm eager to watch this on.

Haven't watched the DVD yet, but I thought it looked terrible due to the grain in the theater too, I figured it was because I watched it on an "ultrascreen" and that they were just blowing it up too much.

I was really disappointed in how this movie looked too. I had just bought a new 56" tv so I thought it might have been that. After watching some other moves and reading opinions here, I guess it is the dvd.

Just watched it on my 50 plasma and it does look grainy but it still looks like it did in theatres. The sounds was pretty solid on my system. I could really feel the bass when the persians collided against the spartans during the initial charge.

I originally saw this in IMAX, and was left VERY underwhelmed by the PQ.
My friend who saw this with me, (who is no videophile, BTW) asked me after the movie ended, "explain to me again, why we paid extra to see this movie here?"

the grain in 300 was intentional as far as I can tell.
Asfar as recent WB's releases looking bad, Am I the only one who thinks the SD version of Harry potter and the goblet of fire looks like ass? Compared to the first 3 dvds, it's really nasty looking. I know the film had a murkier color pallet but the transfer looks really bad on my tv.

If there's anybody here that are in San Diego, I got one of those exclusive helmets, that I don't really want. The box is pretty banged up, it's not that bad but it's still banged up. The helmet inside is not damaged or anything though. So whoever is interested, let me know... otherwise, I'm just gonna be returning it.

I don't remember how grainy it was when I see it on theater (I don't remember any grain at all but I could've been wrong) but the trailer is definitely grainy especially on HD so I guess it is intentional.

I was very disappointed with the menus and the operation of the disc.
After enduring 4 movie promos, one video game ad and one commercial I managed to get to the actual movie. Attempting to change any of the sound settings made the commentary track come on. The track could not be turned off from the menus, I had to eject the disc and start over.
And after 30 seconds of the commentary, I was ready to throw the disc away.

My Best Buy still had 3 Limited Edition Sets on Sat and today had 0. I don't know if they will stock more but I'm glad I bought one last Tues even though the price was expensive.

Even though I bought the HD-DVD with the combo format, I still bought the standard def because of the cool set with the helmet. Damn Best Buy and their exclusives. I just HAD to buy the new Popeye set there too, because of its awesome looking tin.
