A couple questions/comments:

1. I think Richard Schickel did the Once Upon a Time in America commentary and some others. The Once Upon a Time Commentary was pretty weak. I hope these are better.
2. Have they announced the HD release?
3. Are the UCE contents going to be on the HD release? My gut is "no", I hope they prove me wrong.

There will not be an HD release. It will be on the competing format that people call "Blu-ray" but of course the price will be much more than DVD.

I didn't say HD DVD release, I said HD release. Blu-Ray is a HD format.

Exactly.

Anyway, there's a thread in HD Talk about the BD set. It is the UCE, with no option for a lesser-featured set. Dirty Harry is available separately.

Thanks Drexl. I must be getting lazy not looking in the HD forum. Usually these press releases include the info on the HD releases too.

Those are some great extras. This series definitely deserved and I'm glad I only got Dirty Harry from the previous set. This is a must purchase.

I thought Blu-Ray was a hi-def format?

Anyway its cool to see that all five of these films have commentary. Surprising considering WB has been very hit or miss lately with appearance of commentary tracks. I will definitely be buying the DVD box Set. The June 3rd release date should coincide nicely with a certain sale that usually occurs twice a year at a certain website...

DVDActive just posted the package artwork and the artwork for the individual movies.

Looks like a really nice set.

The new Dirty Harry boxed set looks like a winner and the cover art is freakin' cool. By the looks of it, I suppose it's gonna be an impressive release.

Just a word of warning to all those interested in the Dirty Harry "Ultimate" Collector's Edition DVD set...word has it a sixth Dirty Harry movie, entitled "Gran Torino", is due for release from Warner Bros. this Christmas.

So the ultimate collection might not be quite so ultimate.

As loaded as the set sounds; it would be awesome if WB left a placeholder in the slipcase for Gran Tornio (assuming it is the final Dirty Harry film) or offered a mail-away for a new one after GT hits DVD.

I'm being lazy here, I admit, but all of the extras from the previous set are being ported here, right? It looks that way if memory serves.

On one hand, I really want this set. On the other, I watched my old one in it's entirety once!

Eastwood has confirmed that Gran Torino is not a Dirty Harry movie, and that he is done with that role :
http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/Movi...ion=cnn_latest

I was bummed at first but I have to agree with his logic:
"Eastwood, who turns 78 on May 31, went on to add that "Dirty Harry would not be on the police department at my age, so we'll move on from that."

So no slipcase worries here! (at least with Eastwood in the role... there are rumors of restarting the series with someone else)

What happened to the game? I thought this release was tied to a Dirty Harry game and Eastwood was voicing, and Gene Hackman was the villain.

I recently saw a few snippets of several of the films on a promo HDNet Movies ad ('Coming in June') and I was astounded at the ultra sharpness and dimensionality - the films look like they were shot yesterday.

I have $20 worth of Best Buy Coupons coming by June 3rd. I know exactly what I am going to apply them towards. Although it's a shame the Blu-ray set is so much more expensive, I imagine thees films would be greatly benefited by the high-def treatment.

I used two Amazon GC's bringing the bluray box edition down to 40 bucks.

What, he can't play a RETIRED cop called in to help on one last case?

I thought we knew that Gran Torino isn't a Dirty Harry movie a few weeks ago.

Cause he's 80. No one gives a shit what an 80 year-old thinks no matter how much experience they have.
