Anyone not like these movies the first time they saw them? I didn't, but maybe I should give them another shot. Every year my tastes change so who knows? I'll probably rent them first, though...

Awesome news (as is all the other WB stuff)! They're still the studio to beat even in hi-def.
As for how the Dirty Harry series is, this is my opinion: the original is the absolute best, a classic. Magnum Force is clearly the strongest sequel (Oscar hopeful Hal Holbrook is in this one as well), with Sudden Impact and The Dead Pool deadlocked for third. The Enforcer is my least favorite, but anything with Eastwood is better than the shitty action movies now.
Anyone know that Terrence Malick wrote a draft of the original's script?

Dirty Harry is one of my favortie films of all time. I just never get sick of watching it.
The sequals are hit or miss, but for the most part, they are all entertaining. And its Clint.

My Complete Dirt Harry VHS set is up to 53 dollars on amazon, should I sell? I'm not sure I would ever need it in DVD quality, or if I would ever buy it again...

The amazon price doesn't mean it's worth that amount. It's just sellers asking for inflated prices and will stay there until someone buys it or the sellers changes the price. Looking up the VHS sets on ebay. They're going for far less(one was just under $20).

My real question was: Is there something special about the Dirty Harry VHS set? Why would anyone pay $20 (let alone $53) for it? Is it like the BTTF VHS set that had the additional tape not found anywhere else?

I'm sure there is nothing special on either of the Dirty Harry set VHS releases. The only thing I can think of,is maybe trailers for all 5 films on the remastered stereo VHS of DH if it's included in the last VHS set.
I used to own it years ago.I think this was the VHS i'm talking about.
http://www.amazon.com/Dirty-Harry-Ma...2357888&sr=8-5
And I don't see how that would make the price skyrocket. It's not like the trailers are not on the individual dvd releases. I'm sure the only reason the price may go up. Is collectors mentality of 'must have them all'. Someone was hoping to get the VHS set for a low price. But others outbid them,so in greed, they kept bidding to 'win'.
And of course amazon market sellers usually inflate prices because of 'oop/rare' status'. Though it's amusing to see the asking price for not hard to find titles on VHS. There really is no reason someone would sell their VHS collection for that amount, other than greed and hoping a desperate person actually hands over the money.

From thedigitalbits.com:

so mark 6/3/08 for the Blu-Ray and DVd release of these set.
Warner has set the Dirty Harry: Ultimate Collection Boxset for release on DVD, Blu-ray AND HD-DVD on 6/3, which would seem to make it the studio's last HD-DVD day-and-date title. [Editor's Note: Turns out this was an error in the studio's press site database - Dirty Harry will NOT be available on HD-DVD. We've just officially confirmed that this afternoon with WHV's VP for Catalog Publicity & Promotion, Ronnee Sass.]
Here's a quick update: We've just been informed by Warner Home Video that the Dirty Harry: Ultimate Collection Boxset will NOT be released on HD-DVD format on 6/3 as we originally reported earlier today. The title IS still listed in the studio's online press database, but we've officially confirmed this afternoon with WHV's VP for Catalog Publicity & Promotion, Ronnee Sass, that it's an error. There will be no Dirty Harry on HD-DVD. Just FYI. Sorry for the confusion
so mark 6/3/08 for the Blu-Ray and DVd release of these set.

But it's funny to look at the direction this thread took for awhile, about HD gear. I bet those folks who bought it back then paid WAAAAAYYYYYYY too much for it, LOL. Hell, ya pay way too much right now!

The artwork for the new Dirty Harry Collection. Apparently all the movies will be a new special edition. Dirty Harry will get a 2-disc treatment.
