That's what I'm thinking. I find it hard to believe that GBII would be FS.

The previous GB2 was both OAR and P&S so it is likely just listing those specs since this is essentially just a reworking of the previous releases.

If this is true, that would suck but however, if both is actually widescreen, the problem is that on the back cover, people would think the first Ghostbusters is full-screen so they wouldn't buy it. I am very disappointed that Ghostbusters 2 didn't get the special treatment it deserved. I am probably in the minority that I like Ghostbusters 2 better than Ghostbusters 1. I have the orignal ones, if both have better transfers than the orignals, I will pick it up, if not, I will pass.

The grid is confusing, but I must assume that both films will be OAR. I can't imagine they would re-release either one as P&S only, even though that's precisely what the grid implies. The specification of 1.33:1 most likely refers to the episodes of Slimer! And the Real Ghostbusters, as Damed suggested. But I have a feeling the P&S version of Ghostbusters II will not be carried over from the previous release. Not that many would care about it, anyway. I just enjoy having both around so I can observe with glee how much better OAR is.

(Why is "1.33:1" printed inside a box that has the same aspect ratio as the box in which "2.40:1" appears just below it?)

Good approach in setting up the cartoons as special features for Ghostbusters II. At least they give it a little something extra. I wonder if we're going to see all new menus for this set. Nothing wrong with the old ones, but I think redesigning them to create a uniform look and function between the films would be a nice touch. Glad to see separate keepcases. I predict the cheap kind, though, with no insert. Maybe I'm being a little cynical, but I'm getting used to the quality studios are churning out now. We'll see.

This still feels like such a missed opportunity when I think about all the other things that could have supplemented the existing extras. I wouldn't expect much for Ghostbusters II. Frankly--and no offense to DVDFreaker--I don't think it was that great of a film. Major inconsistency with Janine Melnitz. In the first film she's a bookworm who's trying to get in with Egon. In the second she's swapped brains with an airhead. Never worked for me. The way Janine was portrayed in the cartoon wasn't exactly an intellectual, but I still liked her more than her big screen counterpart. I don't like it when characters change completely and inexplicably between films.

That said, it's still a Ghostbusters movie, and it would have been great fun to listen to the participants discuss it, provided any of them would actually want to sit down and record a commentary. Add some documentary footage and music videos from both films to the mix, and a fine SE package would have been born. Oh well.

Im a member of a lot of Gbs sites and when Sony first broke news of this DVD about a yr ago. The fan boys were so happy cause we all know theres more stuff they can put on these DVDs. Heres a short list of what we wanted...

1. Commentary by Dan Ackroyd
2. All the delete scenes, even the fort scene plus the cop giving Ecto-1 a ticket.(Gb1)
3. Music videos
4. Feature on the Universal Orlando Ghostbusters.
5. More behind the scenes stuff, like pictures, concepts.
6. Feature on the props.

They also wanted Gb2 to get SE treatment as well, cause theres ALOT of stuff out there for it. Saying that all the fanboys (like me) are PO at Sony, cause they hyped us up for a yr and then we get shot in the back. Im still debating if im getting this set, im also going to see what else Sony has to say about these dvds.

Hey Ecto Freak, I'd still like to know what the RGB eps are, as those are the only real draw for me, unless the transfers are so stunning compared to the previous edition. I think the packaging is cheesy, reminds me of the can of Ectoplasm you could buy in the 80s. Kiddie, in other words.

My only guess is that maybe both fullscreen and widescreen versions will be on the release, as there doesn't seem to be any indication on the front of the box which version it is, if it is either one of the two.

If the "fullscreen" is only referring to the special features and not either of the feature films, it doesn't make sense that their aspect ratios would be listed first (on top). If both films are in FS and WS, it's more understandable why FS is listed first.

Not that the layout of the specs makes much sense at all, but that's what I gather out of it. I *think* that's what the graphic designer intern must've been trying to indicate.

I noticed that too... I think the designer used some "off the shelf" icons for the thing, without realizing that the TV 'box' is specifically designed to show widescreen.

I know all the winning lottery numbers for tonight.

How reliable is the source you talked with at Sony Patrick? That seems like a very, very odd decision.

Well, it's not like we go out on dates. Besides, Sony also has updated their spec sheet on their publicity site and it now clearly reads "Ghostbusters 1: Fullscreen Presentation."

"Odd" is defintely one word for it...

That's how all of Sony's releases are, no matter what their aspect ratio is. Here's the back cover of the NewsRadio: Seasons 1 & 2 DVD. You can see that it also has a widescreen box, but the episodes are in 1.33:1.

Thank you kindly for the early heads up Patrick. Definitely saves me from looking to trade/sell my copy and pick this up.

What also chaps my hide is that the UMD release in going to be widescreen. Now whether this UMD uses the "new transfer" I don't know, but I still can't figure out Sony's decision on the Gift Set.

It's 2005 for crying out loud! I thought we were past this kinda news five years ago.

This is just terrible, why would they put Ghostbusters in pan and scan? Maybe they lost the tapes/transfers/master, whatever you call it? I'm passing on this set, I'm glad I didn't sell the originals but I'm sure people who sold the orignals to get this set will regret it when they find out that Ghostbusters is in pan and scan. It is really a shame, SHAME ON YOU, SONY!!!!! I WANT A EXPAINATION, SONY!

Sony never ceases to amaze me with their total laziness and incompetence. If I can get ten bucks for my Ghostbusters 2 disc, I'll folk out the extra 4-5 bucks but this is just beyond retardation. They really hate Ghostbusters up there at Sony dont they? I just despise Sony even more now, this is why I dont own ANY Sony products besides a few dvds.

I was wondering if it's because since Sony has been downgrading formats, they are going to switch to Blue-Ray or High Defition?

I've had a few, but I don't think I'm that drunk yet. Can you rephrase?

Well, since they don't aren't doing widescreen on the first Ghostbusters, I was wondering if they want to wait to use the widescreen transfer for the Blue Ray or High Defention on Ghostbusters if it is releasted in Blue Ray or High Defention?

I just sent Sony an email that was polite, but showed my dissatisfaction.

I am going to be still wondering if the transfer will be better? If it is indeed better, I am going to buy it, keep the original Ghostbusters disc, switch Ghostbusters 2 discs, and sell it on E-Bay, pretty sneaky huh?

Switch the Ghostbusters 2 discs? Why would you do that when the new disc has the two episodes. What Im gonna do is try and sell my current GB2 disc, buy the two pack, buy a two discer keep case and make my own 'special' edition sort of speak with both GB1 discs. Sound alright?

As POed as I am about this. Being a huge fan I have to get it because of the scrapbook and two episodes, and I guess am in the minority here but I actually like the cover art.
