What's the chance of this just being the current discs repackaged?

dsa_shea 05-12-05 06:08 PM

That's what i'm guessing it is going to be.

Masamune 05-12-05 07:11 PM

I HOPE that's what it will be cause it's my fav movie but this disc is more than good enough.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Alan Smithee 05-12-05 07:40 PM

They'll probably both be in pan and scan format this time, but have DTS soundtracks.

Ecto Freak 05-12-05 07:43 PM

Its not a release of the 1999 DVDs, this is a whole new edition. and rumor has it they even going to give Gb2 SE treatment as well.

redrum 05-12-05 07:47 PM

Can you cite a source on this? New editions have been mentioned on these boards, but The Digital Bits said nothing about that. If these were brand new special editions, I would fully expect to have heard about them long before now.

The "gift set" idea does sound cool, but will it be worth the double-dip just for the scrapbook? I have the 1999 releases of both films--came in an unofficial boxed set labeled "DVD Double Feature"--so unless these are new in some way, I'm not sure about putting the money down for them. Have to wait and see.

Still sounds cool, though. :)

Give me a SE Of GB II and I'll be happy. :thmbsdwn: To Re-packaging.

Ecto Freak 05-12-05 09:17 PM

If it was a re release of the old 99 DVDs; then why would they take this long to release them? Sony first told the world about a new SE last summer. My source works for Sony, his in charge of the new Gbs comics out.

dx23 05-12-05 09:54 PM

I smell repackaged current versions of both films.

GmoneyOwnsYou 05-12-05 09:57 PM

!!!OMG Finally!!! This news has made my day. Yes, part 2 better be getting at least some kind of special treatment this time. I was just thinking yesterday how nice it'd be for new releases of these in a set. These arent repackaged releases, that I know. I've been keeping up with the news on these discs over at www.ghostbustershq.com and they ARENT re-releases. Sony originally wanted a summer 04' release for a '20th anniversary' edition. But there were some setbacks, so they've been working on these discs for awhile. I and many others have just been waiting for a street date. HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY!

Cameron 05-12-05 10:14 PM

It will be the same disc repacked...think stand by me, easy rider...

good disc just the same, but bummer they aren't adding anything

Ecto Freak 05-12-05 10:22 PM

Ofcourse its going to be the same movies, but there adding the other delete scenes, maybe a commentary track from Dan, new interviews and much much more. GB2 will also get the SE treatment it desivers.

Fincher Fan 05-12-05 10:23 PM

Damnit! Another double-dip.

no i doubt it...columbia has been repacking the same old disc with a new slipcover and booklet alot lately. I doubt they will add any special features.

Skoobooz 05-12-05 10:38 PM

As much as it would be nice to believe that these are brand new special editions, it really is more likely that they're merely repackagings. Of course, they could "pull a Universal" and re-release the exact same discs with new video transfers.

Anyway, some concrete proof from someone really in the know would help.

Well, durations between releases seem pretty meaningless to me. I doubt there's any rule for how long past a particular release a movie should be re-released. Could be a matter of months; could be several years.

None of the DVD news sites I visit regularly have mentioned anything about new editions of either film coming at any time, so I certainly have my doubts about this. But we'll see what happens as we get closer.

Ecto Freak 05-12-05 11:25 PM

Well i think its a new SE for both films. Theres so much more you can put on the GB1 dvd, like the other delete scenes, teaser trailer, a commentary by Dan ect... Plus we all want Gb2 to get SE treatment and this might be are change. When the 99 disk came out it set the standards for dvds. Well maybe Sony will do that again with these disk.

Alan Smithee 05-13-05 02:30 AM

Sony's not even half the company now that they were then.
