That is rediculous. I can't believe Sony did that

This is ridiculous (if true). I hope this is simply a publicity snafu and doesn't turn out to be reality.

(I came this close to selling my current GB disc the other day)

Okay, I think we all just got really upset for nothing. Over at DVDAnswers there's a slightly bigger picture of the back cover. It's still blurry but you can see it says widescreen in the red box. I think they listed both the fullscreen and widescreen specs because both discs will have both. For everyone who emailed Sony (including me), maybe we should email them again to apologize.

Here's the link with the bigger picturehttp://www.dvdanswers.com/index.php?...6674&n=1&burl=

That is the way I have been reading it. It says Ghostbusters 1 & 2 then the box. I sure hope this is the case. I still went ahead and emailed them.

According to the Ghostbusters Special Features in the red box, the first one is widescreen. Yet, DVDAnswers is reporting it to be FS only. That seems painfully obvious not to be the case.

Looking at the back of the case, it sure reads to me like both fullscreen and widescreen versions will be included for both films. It's done clumsily, but that's the way I take it. Doesn't mean it's not wrong though I suppose.

This whole release just stinks of half-arsed, and now we get info that GB1 is pan+scam. Sony really has its collective head up its collective arse. I just don't get it. No wonder it's so cheap, right? Anyway, I have no experience emailing movie studios, any tips?

EDIT: I think I'll wait until it's 100% clear.

I'm wondering why there's so much questioning. TWO reputable sources are qouting Sony themselves as saying GB1 is FS only. Either way, I was on the fence about this since I really don't like Gb2, but I'll just hold onto the first release.

Just looked again at dvdanswer's picture of the back. If you look at red box where it says Ghostbusters Special Features it clearly says Widescreen.

In many ways, I'm willing to bet more that GB1 is WS and GB2 isn't.

True but dvdanswers also confirm from Sony that Gb1 is in fullscreen. Either way theres a lot of PO people. First they were PO about the cover art, second PO about no special features on Gb2, and third now were PO at fullscreen. Sony is making a big mistake about this!

But the cover art (also provided by Sony) contradicts this by pretty clearly labeling GB1 as widescreen. I honestly don't know what to expect at this point. A FS-only release doesn't make any damn sense at all, especially with previous releases (LD and DVD) being WS. But I suppose stranger things have happened.

I'll just hang on to my existing disc and wait for reviews of the new set...

And if the RGB eps are from the Dave Coulier years, there will be more to be POed about!
Nevermind about THIS then...

I just got a response from my email to Sony:

Thank you for your e-mail. We appreciate your interest in Sony Pictures
Home Entertainment products.

Ghostbusters 1 & 2 Giftset will be released in its original widescreen
presentation formats. An earlier notice may have indicated that the
release also included full screen versions, but that information was
released prematurely

Thank you for your continued patronage and for taking the time to contact
us.

Regards,

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment
Consumer Relations
Sweet. Widescreen it is.

Now only if they give Gb2 the special edition treatment.

I noticed they showed Ghostbusters to be widescreen in the "special features" section, but having heard what was presumably the official word from Sony, I figured it was a misprint. Hard to know what's what now.

Perhaps both films really are presented in OAR and P&S. The grid can certainly be interpreted that way. And that would actually sweeten the deal for me. But if that's the case, where would they put the P&S version of Ghostbusters? There's only so much room on a disc, and there are quite a few extras to fit in, as well. Unless it's a flipper.

I'm not touching this set until I read some reviews.

Okay, this is promising. Sounds like no P&S versions, which is fine.

It could use a fresh transfer. Too much edge enhancement, and weak compression quality due to too many features crammed onto the same disc as the movie (this re-release doesn't seem to be helping in that department, unfortunately).
