What's the chance of this just being the current discs repackaged?

They'll probably both be in pan and scan format this time, but have DTS soundtracks.

Can you cite a source on this? New editions have been mentioned on these boards, but The Digital Bits said nothing about that. If these were brand new special editions, I would fully expect to have heard about them long before now.

The "gift set" idea does sound cool, but will it be worth the double-dip just for the scrapbook? I have the 1999 releases of both films--came in an unofficial boxed set labeled "DVD Double Feature"--so unless these are new in some way, I'm not sure about putting the money down for them. Have to wait and see.

Still sounds cool, though.

If it was a re release of the old 99 DVDs; then why would they take this long to release them? Sony first told the world about a new SE last summer. My source works for Sony, his in charge of the new Gbs comics out.

!!!OMG Finally!!! This news has made my day. Yes, part 2 better be getting at least some kind of special treatment this time. I was just thinking yesterday how nice it'd be for new releases of these in a set. These arent repackaged releases, that I know. I've been keeping up with the news on these discs over at www.ghostbustershq.com and they ARENT re-releases. Sony originally wanted a summer 04' release for a '20th anniversary' edition. But there were some setbacks, so they've been working on these discs for awhile. I and many others have just been waiting for a street date. HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY!

no i doubt it...columbia has been repacking the same old disc with a new slipcover and booklet alot lately. I doubt they will add any special features.

As much as it would be nice to believe that these are brand new special editions, it really is more likely that they're merely repackagings. Of course, they could "pull a Universal" and re-release the exact same discs with new video transfers.

Anyway, some concrete proof from someone really in the know would help.

Well, durations between releases seem pretty meaningless to me. I doubt there's any rule for how long past a particular release a movie should be re-released. Could be a matter of months; could be several years.

None of the DVD news sites I visit regularly have mentioned anything about new editions of either film coming at any time, so I certainly have my doubts about this. But we'll see what happens as we get closer.

Well i think its a new SE for both films. Theres so much more you can put on the GB1 dvd, like the other delete scenes, teaser trailer, a commentary by Dan ect... Plus we all want Gb2 to get SE treatment and this might be are change. When the 99 disk came out it set the standards for dvds. Well maybe Sony will do that again with these disk.
