Apocolypse Now- Not a major dvd by any means, but props for owning this over the Redux. Redux should only be a supplement to any collection, not a replacement for this gem.
The Battle of Algiers: The Criterion Collection Great Package, need to pick that one up myself.
Kill Bill Box Sets. I like someone who buys the region 1, then says fuck all this waiting for the whole bloody affair edition, and shells out for some region 2 action.
honorable mention for Lilya 4-Ever (an undiscovered gem in my opinion as we all know)

I especially enjoyed the way you put Apocalypse and the Kill Bill mentioning ... too funny
. I'm sure my collection isn't the easiest for most, stateside ... even for those who know what Lilya is all about
Double dips a rampant I am, green eggs and ham. No probs there. Time and dineros have been short to get around to some .. for instance, The Good, The bad .., One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Jerk .. and some other mentionables. They are on the list, just low priority with .. well, not just R1 release schedules, ya know?
If no one scrabbles a chance at yours by tomorrow, I'll take a shot. Classics are just not my cup of tea though. I'm jealous of the Hitchcock sets stuff though .. right off the bat.

You have a great collection, would try yours but couldn't recommend much that you don't have, that is since you don't appear to be much into horror or italian gialli.

Also .. Bad Guy isn't available in a R1 version, so you'd need to be region free to pick it up. Sorry I didn't mention that in my recommendation. Though, it may be eventually as most of Ki-duk's stuff usually finds a R1 distributor.

Great deal on a ton of movies (warner set, and criterion won't kill you either) The Public Domain stuff is cheap and worth a look.
I see a Tarantiono folder...but no Natural Born Killers, True Romance, Four Rooms, Killing Zoe, or any of the Rolling Thunder titles. If you give the guy his own folder you have to be a fan.
Next big purchase is going to be the new Hitchcock box. Waiting for the next DDD sale. New baby is making funds tight, need those good sales.
Do have True Romance but it isn't in his folder, should move it, was sorting by the stuff he directed. Loved Killing Zoe and need to get, never have been too crazy about NBK.

Thanks for the review, bballing. Mean Girls along with Golden Girls and Sailor Moon are my girlfriend's (I know, oldest excuse in the book), I'm sure they seem a little out of place. hahaha. I keep that T2 edition mostly because I prefer that art a whole lot over the Extreme Edition (I hate that box art an the version isn't much of an improvement, imo). I love Groundhog Day, so I guess you're pretty good at the whole recommending thing. There aren't too many watchable comedies to me, most I get burned out on after the second viewing, therefore I don't own many.
I still have no idea why I do not have the Godfather collection. That along with Seinfeld and a few other box sets I just keep pushing aside 'cause I don't feel like plunking down the moolah... and it hurts. haha.

yeah...sorry about the subs
i do own every hitchcock title available at the moment. Lifeboat will be mine soon enough, and I am waiting a few months to grab the big box in hopes that some single SE will come out for Psycho, and vertigo. I have a lot of money invested in the old universal sets, and they have treated me well. i just hate to give them up.
dreamcatcher was bought in a huge lot of dvds for a song, the other two I can't answer for.
Adventures of Robin Hood I have. Its in the warner legends box, Batman SE will be mine soon enough, On the hold out with Bond for the inevitable SE next year. Godfather has been on the list for a while. My longtime room mate owned it, so i never bought it. Got married, and moved out and since have not purchased. Might have to grab that next sale.

Fiver:
Best Three:
Hackers - MGM totally missed the boat on what would have been a great 10th anniversary edition. Anyway, anyone who owns this underappreciated cult classic is ace in my book.
Evil Dead: Elite Edition - Major kudos on the Elite ED. Correct transfer, beautiful animated menus, better extras, and an overall cleaner disc.
Forbidden Planet - A man after my own heart. I think that "Forbidden Planet" tends to get lost in the shuffle of "This Island Earth", "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and others, while the disc itself has quietly gone OOP. Even I don't own it, and I know I should.
Worst Three:
Out of Sight - Personally, "Out of Sight" to me was poorly directed, and seemed to jump all over the place, plot wise. Soderberg never really regained any composure, except for "Ocean's Eleven". Besides that, there's a better DTS disc out there, albeit OOP.
Plan 9 From Outer Space - Easily one of the most intolerable movies I've ever had the displeasure of viewing. I saw it just so I could say I did. The rewatch value, I'd like to think, is non-existant.
The Royal Tenenbaums - I dislike Wes Anderson. Period. While "The Life Aquatic" was pseudo-quirky, "Tenenbaums" wasn't a dark comedy. It was art imitating Anderson's own life I'd like to think, because he's way too familiar and obsessed with disfunction for it to be merely scripted. His "humor" is too dry and melancholy to even be conisdered such.
Most Needed:
Airplane: Don't Call Me Shirley Edition - Ditch your old Paramount disk for this one dropping in December. What I consider to be the greatest parody of all time deserves an update in your library. I hope you had already planned to.
Army of Darkness: Boomstick Edition - While that LE is nice, the 2 Disk Boomstick Edition is a lot sweeter. I don't know that they've ever really gotten the transfer correct on any of the 5 AOD releases, and Boomstick is a re-release of the last LE 2 disc, it's just a must have.
The Fifth Element 2 Disk SE - I'm surprised you haven't updated! It's usually on sale somewhere for $10. DTS track, two versions of the movie, loaded with extras, and one of Besson's best. Loads better than "Subway". Nab it!

Best 3:
1. Leon
2. Anchorman
3. Underworld
You've got the best versions of all 3!
Worst 3:
1. Best in Show- I put this in the same category as "Tenenbaums". Funny in theory, but poorly executed.
2. Conspiracy Theory- The Pelican Brief 2, from the writers of Speed 2: Cruise Control.
3. It's Pat- It was ok for a five minute sketch on SNL.
Most Needed 3:
1. Fallen- Great "supernatural" thriller
2. Bad(der) Santa- Ditch Airplane 2
3. Shallow Hal- see above
Check out my top 20, your best three and most needed 3 are all in my top 7.
The other is Oceans Eleven, and you have that.
I like mostly mainstream stuff, so I'm sure someone will have some fun with my list .

Best 3:
1. Requiem for a Dream: DC - Excellent film
2. Man on the Moon - A very underrated film, as it blends drama and comedy very well. It contains a very admirable performance from Jim Carrey.
3. Frailty - An excellent underrated bargain bin title.
Worst 3:
1. The Apprentice: Season 1 - Come on, now...
2. The Cell - One of the worst movies I've ever seen. Boring plot + J.lo =
3. Ghost Ship - Schlocky and boring, a deadly combination!
Most needed 3:
Since most of your stuff is not just mainstream, but monumentally bad mainstream (
), I will suggest some mainstream titles that should give this collection a kick in the pants.
1. Toy Story 1&2 - Since you have both The Incredibles and Monsters, Inc., this is a logical choice.
2. Dawn of the Dead: Ultimate Edition - Seeing as how you have a lot of horror movies, both good and bad, why not pick up a truly great one?
3. Interstate 60 - An off the beaten path comedy, and one that has not failed to disappoint me when recommending it to others. It's very inexpensive, and very enjoyable.
I haven't done this in a while and have nearly doubled my collection since last time, so who wants to have a go? http://www.intervocative.com/dvdcoll....aspx/seanf716

Wewantflair, I'll ask you to reassess my collection for these reasons:
Requiem & Frailty are in my FS/FT thread, and I just traded Man on the Moon (which came from someone here, I was confused with The Truman Show). What's bad mainstream now?
As for the worst 3: The Apprentice was a guilty pleasure and only $1 on eBay, a lucky find (it's missing the slipcover). The Cell was a bonus title from a friend on a trade, and Ghost Ship was a $4 pawn shop buy.
But I'm sure everyone has these in their collection, I'm actually proud that you picked all 3.. but that pride is tainted because the top 3 are all but gone.
Toy Story 1&2 I agree. I'm assuming they'll have a new boxed set after "2" gets a new release. I just added Interstate 60 to my Netflix queue.
Everyone else ignore this post.

Firstly, people need to stop disrespecting the cinematic gold that is Josie and the Pussycats
(Yes I actually enjoy this flick). Satan's Little Helper - Yeah this one kind of blows. I loved the first 30-40 minutes, but it pretty much sucked beyond that. Got suckered by the cool cover.
High Tension - I actually have that one, you just have to look for it under the title "Haute Tension"

Irreversible & Burden of Dreams are both titles I like a lot, but they always get pushed aside for something else.
Under Siege / Hard Target - Two films I rather enjoy although I am not fans of their leading men. Both where helmed by directors of a much higher calibur than either than either "actor" had worked with before or since, and both had great villians (Tommy Lee Jones & Lance Henrikson). Not to mention that Hard Target had Wilfred Brimley as a horseback riding, bow & arrow shooting bad-ass motherfucker, which is one element of cinematic greatness that is absent from Citizen Kane.

CPT, I will happily reassess.
Best:
1. Dark City - Probably the best bargain bin title money can buy. Lots of very solid fun for 5.99.
2. South Park season 5/movie - South Park definitely has the longevity that nobody predicted.
3. Underworld Extended - I'm not the hugest fan of the film, but this is an excellent DVD. The AV quality is just outstanding.
Worst 3
1. Van Helsing - What could have been an excellent franchise was instead a monumental disappointment. A catastrophically boring film that was one of my biggest letdowns of its release season.
2. Arlington Road - A friend recommended this film to me, and after renting it, I ended the friendship. I had to literally bite my knuckles until they bled to keep from falling asleep.
3. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - Again, a concept with great potential is squandered on a ponderous mess.
Additional recommendations:
1. Final Destination 1 and 2 - they seem right up your alley
2. Iron Giant - best movie ever
3. Side note - not sure if you have a widescreen HDTV display or not, but some of your titles have been upgraded significantly since their initial releases. If you have a good display, it's worth double dipping, especially on Shawshank Redemption.
Oh, and if anybody is going to do my collection:

Ok, I agree with those 3. I'm not the biggest fan of Dark City, but I obviously own it. My taste is very mainstream, and while I enjoy some classics or lesser known titles, I can't say I enjoy them more if I don't watch them more. I loved Primer, but I'm too cheap to buy it until the used market is better. My last viewing of The Conversation wasn't as good as in the past, I'm hoping Rear Window is as good as last time.
Final Destination I enjoyed, but it's one of those that was overdone on cable.

Freaks & Geeks: LE yearbook
Fanny & Alexander: Criterion box set
The Educational Archives: Limited Edition Lunchbox (I couldn't justify owning this myslef, but it is a wonderfully odd item to have!)
Honorable mention for that copy of Doggie Poo, hehe. Awkward title aside, it looks adorable...
Santa With Muscles
Over the Top

White Chicks
Should have...
The Adventures of Antoine Doniel box set - You have Jules & Jim and the older edition of the 400 Blows, so why not toss the latter on Ebay and grab up Criterion's fantastic box set?
All the Real Girls - Seeing George Washington in the collection along with few other titles, I think you would probably enjoy David Gordon Green's sophmore film quite a bit (and possibly his third, Undertow, as well).
And only the first season of Arrested Development? For shame! I'll assume you've got the 2nd set on the shopping list already.

wewantflair, I'll take a stab at it (btw, you gotta lot of nice DVDs, I'm jealous):
Best:
1. The Fly/ Fly 2 Special Editions- The Fly is one of my very favorite films, and it got a great release. I was delighted that The Fly 2 got the same treatment (the fact that it did made it worth buying alone).
2. Short Cuts- I just love this film, and a great criterion. I can't believe I still don't own it.
3. Salo- I'm jealous, not only for the rarity, but I've been dying to see it after getting so into Pasolini.
Worst:
1. Bad Boys 2- I was consistently disappointed as this movie refused to end.
2. Junior- Huh?
3. The Scorpion King- I'm surprised I made it through this one, or even went to see it after experiencing The Mummy Returns.
Most Needed:
1. City Lights- You've got a few Chaplin things, but no City Lights! Such a great film.
2. High Tension- You've got a lot of horror and as I've said before, this is my favorite out of the latest batch of slashers. Plus, you've got The Hills Have Eyes (Yes!) and Aja is going to be remaking it soon!
3. Bottle Rocket- You've got some Wes Anderson films, but no Bottle Rocket. My favorite Anderson film is Rushmore, but I laughed hardest at Bottle Rocket.

Thanks for the replies, fellas! The reason I have Santa with Muscles and Junior is because I feel that it is my duty to own all Hulk Hogan and Arnold films.
And Over the Top is such an awesome $5 title. I love stupid crap like that. I picked up the Scorpion King Limited Edition for like 3 bucks during a Game Stop sale, so that's why I have that one.
I have Arrested Development S2, High Tension, and the Antoine Doinel boxed set in my DDD Wishlist for November. I'll check out the other recommendations on Netflix. Thanks!

CosmicBus, I didn't refresh, so I'll do yours so that you don't get skipped!:
Best:
1. Oldboy- Region 3- This along with a few other of your titles make me wish I had a region free player.
2. Almost Famous Untitled- A great DVD for a great film.
3. Videodrome- Great Cronenberg and a great DVD that I still haven't bought.
Worst:
1. Rules of Attraction- I heard a lot about this movie from friends and after I watched it I was angered beyond belief from disappointment. I just found it incredibly incoherent and terrible.
2. Battle Royale- Another film that befouled me with disappointment. I found it extremely overrated.
3. Brotherhood of the Wolf- Although a great DVD, I just could not get into this movie.
Most Needed:
1. All About My Mother- You have Talk to Her, which I instantly fell in love with and also which got me into Almodovar. All About My Mother is equally great.
2. I Stand Alone- I love this movie, and by looking at your collection, you might, too.
3. Delicatessen- You've got Amelie and City of the Lost Children, so you'll probably like Delicatessen, a great film by Jeunet.

) leads me to believe that my love of Talk To Her might be an anomoly of sorts. I Stand Alone was quite good and fantastically intense, but something I couldn't see going back to for a very, very long time. I'm trying to unload my R2 copy of Irreversible for the same reason.
Delicatessen is the one that I really do regret selling. Jeunet's films just get better the more I watch them, so this is a very likely re-buy in the future.

1. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest: Special Edition - I'm not sure why but I have a soft spot for this movie. It's on my "to buy list" and is a great addition to your collection.
2. Raging Bull: Special Edition - My favorite Scorsese film, I think Raging Bull is a cinematic masterpiece.
3. A Tale of Two Sisters Unrated - Not the third best movie you have, but a nice addition to a diverse collection. I think this movie will get better with each re-watch.
Also, A Very Long Engagement should be up here too. Wonderful film, great dvd.
Worst
1. The Village - Alright, it's not that bad, but something about it just irritated me to no end. Plus I guessed the ending during the Touchstone logo.
2. Mimic - There weren't too many redeeming qualities in this, very B-movie and not exactly in a good way.
3. Dead Birds - After being exciting by a Fangoria article I actually saw this...there's a reason it was direct to dvd.
Most Needed
Since you have such good dvds, these are just some thoughts.
1. Shallow Grave/Millions - Since you have a few Danny Boyle flicks, you could try these. I'd especially recommend Millions (comes out in Nov. I think)
2. Layer Cake - Since you liked Lock,Stock and Snatch, I'd assume you'd like this as well.
3. Halloween - Just because I can't think of anything else, I love it, it's a classic, and it's that time of year.

Thanks for the review, Willh51! I haven't watched Tale of Two Sisters yet, it was a blind buy from the Amazon sale. I was planning on renting/ buying it for some time and I'm very looking forward to it. I try not to think about the "twist" ending for The Village, it was so obvious that I never got myself wrapped up in it. While it was very flawed, something about it appealed to me and I didn't think it was nearly as bad as everyone made it out to be.
Mimic was mentioned before, haha. While it's hard to get past a lot of the flaws, I've enjoyed it as a guilty pleasure (mostly 'cause I have a weird thing about bug monsters, ie The Fly and Starship Troopers. I'm strange, I know) and I just get a lot out of it. Dead Birds I really do like, and while the pacing is off at times, I think it has a lot of which many horror movies recently are lacking.
I've been looking forward to Shallow Grave (It's in my Netflix queue) and Millions, which I'll be buying on release day. I planned on seeing Layer Cake much sooner, but for some reason I get a bad feeling about it. I'm worried I'm gonna get a watered down version of the Guy Ritchie classics. I'm a big fan of old John Carpenter, and I've been wanting to get me a copy, but I always get turned away by the millions of versions out there. Everytime I'm in a store I go "wait, is this the right version to buy?" and then drop it. Haha.
Thanks a lot, man.

No problem. I like Starship Troopers as well and am looking forward to checking out The Fly. If I were getting Halloween, I'd get (well I already got) the 25th Anniversay Edition. It's two discs and has great extras. Despite the transfer losing the "blue" from the original print, the presentation is very good and it doesn't bother me. If not that version, get the limited edition that is still on some shelves.
