First off great collection, more dvds than I would personally want to have around, but you do select them well I am in the midst of redoing my collection now, and can only hope to end up with something as well rounded and respectable as yours.

Best - It was hard to narrow down, but...

Amelie - I dont know how I went about buying this one blindly, but probably the best blind buy I ever made.

The Jerk - In my mind, Steve Martin's best. Classically funny, just waiting on the SE to add it to my collection.

Chinatown - Jack's best. To think that I would have probably never experienced it had I not sat down one day and told myself I was going to watch all of the AFI's top 100 list (not done doing so but I am working on it)

I could easily list more, but I am trying to stay with 3

Worst -

Punch Drunk Love - This movie changed so much for me, I no longer buy Superbit movies just because they are Superbit, I also no longer blind buy movies anymore thanks to this one...

About Schmidt - Love Jack, cant seem to make it through this movie. If I have problems sleeping this would be my goto...

Tron - I have mediocre memories of this movie as a kid and it just seems to curdle with age.

Needed -

Child's Play - You have Bride and not the original? Please say its because your like me and hoping for an anamorphic re release

American Werewolf in London - Great story, still holds its own after 20+ years

Godfather - You have a number of classics, Goodfellas tells me you like the type of film, yet no Godfather?

Best:
1. "Big Trouble in Little China: SE" (just found out they even had this
edition and had to get it, all those extras, that movie, gotta love it!)
2. "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly: SE" (best ending to a movie...ever!)
3. "Dawn of the Dead: UE" (one of the best zombie movies (packaged
in one of the best special editions, with 3 versions of the great movie)
like ever!)

Worst:
1. -tie-"Dolby Digital Demo Disc" & all the other ones you have (like 5 or 6?)
(i never understood the point of these, especially when many
DVD's have color, sound tests, etc..)
2. "Rumble in the Bronx" (just...not...good)
3. "Bring It On" (really?)

Most Needed:
1. "Almost Famous: Bootleg Edition" (time for an upgrade, it's like a
whole nother movie and still incredible!)
2. "Evil Dead II" (you have the other two, so wha' happened?)
3. -tie-"Bambi: PE, The Lion King: PE, Aladdin: PE" (you
have "A Bug's Life, but you need at least 1 or 2 of the other
classics in animation and/or CG)

k, someone do me...

The Demo Discs are part of my arsenal for work. Easier to carry around 1 dvd with multiple demo's than a bunch of discs.

I have Nemo :P

Best -

Ronin Ultimate Edition - Beautiful release for such a great movie, one of the reasons I am glad I went region free.

American History X - A great story and the first time I learned who Ed Norton was.

Backdraft - Another great story with another great cast.

Worst -

Cabin Fever - Ugh, I barely made it through the movie the first time and ended up getting forced to watch it again when all my friends felt it was the MUST SEE movie out that week on DVD.

Monster's Ball - I know lots of people loved this one, but it was dull and pointless to me, I could not get into it at all.

Signs - This one probably has a lot to do with the hype, maybe it was built up so much that it was destined to lose with me. And come on, water? What is going to happen when it rains?

Need -

Toy Story/Spider-Man - You have the sequels, but not the originals?

Spun - Not quite the great film Requiem for a Dream is, but still an entertaining movie none the less.

Stir of Echoes - During its theatrical I think Sixth Sense's advertising overwhelmed the movie so much that it didnt do well, but still a great movie. Personally I found it to be better than Sixth..

Tough list for me as you have a lot of stuff I really like. Well, it's hard to slim it down to 3 but here we go:

Best

The Decalogue - I had this at one time and regretted selling it. I'll get it back one day.
Requiem for a Dream - One of the saddest movies I have ever seen, also one of the best I've ever seen.
Toy Story UB set - picked this up on the advice of fellow DVDTalkers. Picked it up on release day and it's one set I will never part with.

Worst - JMO

I Heart Huckabees
Punch-Drunk Love
Showgirls

Needed

X2: X-Men United - I see you have the first. IMO, the second was just as good if not better than the original.
The Abyss - I think you may like it.
Fight Club - I just think it's a great movie

Slowcloud:

Best Three:

-The Decalogue
-Paris, Texas
-Do the Right Thing: The Criterion Collection

Worst Three:
-24 Hour Party People
-Goodbye, Lenin!
-Labyrinth

Need Three:
-My Own Private Idaho: The Criterion Collection
-Tanner '88: The Criterion Collection
-The Straight Story

It was very hard to pick for your collection, because it's so very nice and seems tailored to your (and my) very specific tastes. I don't buy many music DVDs, but I'd like to check out the Spiritualized and Pixies DVDs in your collection. Looking at your list also reminded me that I still need to buy Buffalo '66 and the Fantasia Boxset.

cheers,

-the Jesus

cmatherne,
Great Collection!!!

Best:
Dawn of the Dead: Ultimate Edition (awesome)
LOTR: EE Trilogy (cornerstone of every great collection)
Godfather Collection

Worst:
Drumline (yeah...)
Bedazzled (whewf...)
Outfoxed (politics aside...this thing sucks)

Needed:
Simpsons: Season 5 (gotta keep up)
Pulp Fiction: Sp. Ed. (upgrade needed)
Shawshank Redemption: Sp. Ed. (upgrade needed)

As far as great mainstream movies, I think you have most of them. Hard to make suggestion with a great collection like that.

Alright... lay it on me...

EDIT: Sorry cmatherne looks like someone beat me to the punch

I'm reviewing yours Jack. Anyone's free to take a crack at mine.

Nice collection you have going there Jack. I had trouble finding three that I thought were your "worst," and ended up going with an easy dig at Eminem and two oldies that probably were childhood favorites of yours. I have some titles like that in my collection as well that I wouldn't part with for anything (like Hawk the Slayer and the dreadful D&D movie since I have great memories of playing the game as a kid/teen).

Best Three:

Worst Three:

Most Needed:

I suggest Seven Samurai since you had Hidden Fortress, The Office since you like Mr. Show and Blade Runner since you clearly like sci fi.

Best
Lord of the Rings series
Alien Quadrilogy
Indiana Jones Collection

Worst
2 Fast 2 Furious
Miss Congeniality
Mystery Men

Most Needed
Band of Brothers
Schindler's List
Star Wars Trilogy [You have 1 and 2?]

**Extra** I see you have Dragonheart 2 but you must get the first one in DTS, it's amazing! Also, I see a lot of older B movies - perhaps you would also like them with the Mystery Science Theater treatment?

Best:
Adventures of Indiana Jones-a must for any collection
Lawrence of Arabia Superbit-ditto
Shawshank Redemption Two-Disc Deluxe Limited Edition-A fine movie that gets better with age.
Bonus-Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, The - Vol. 4: Space Mutiny may very well be the greatest movie ever made. I'm not joking.

Worst:
Captain Ron-There are better bad Kurt Russell movies out there.
Short Circuit-Who's Johnny? Indeed.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre New Line Platinum Series-get thee to the original Saw.
Bonus-Bubble Boy:John Travolta was still the funniest boy in a bubble. And that was supposed to be a drama.

Needed:
Master and Commander CE-Great movie and a better dvd set.
Great Escape- A great WWII film, seems to fit your taste.
The Rock, Criterion- Still the best Michael Bay spectacle.
Bonus- The Adventures of Robin Hood: I can't help but recommend this when I see Costner's remake in someone's collection. Errol Flynn, accept no substitutes.
