It'll be interesting to hear the explanation, if any is ever given, as to why this was pulled even after the discs had been produced and shipped to retailers. I have a feeling there was either a technical problem or there was a problem with the content (rights were lost to some portion of the extras, or maybe someone involved in production snuck an un-authorized Egg on the disc somewhere). Pure speculation, of course, but I hope we eventually get an explanation... I just don't buy the "Big Fish" tie-in.

Actually this isn't surprising at all, especially from Disney, who are notorious for pushing back releases to tie in with films from the same director. They did it last week with Sonatine (probably to tie in with Zatoichi later this year), and last year with Zentropa (Dogville hits video later this year).

A couple of extra sales due to tie-ins might not look like much to you, but what about to a company where the $ is the bottom line? Why sell 200,000 copies when you can sell 220,000 copies a few months down the road without any extra effort? I'm not justifying it (and think this Ed Wood ridiculousness has gone on for long enough)... just giving perspective.

But who knows, maybe they all had a pressing error with the entire batch and this is moot.

Meanwhile, I received a shipping notice from Buy.com for this today.

Let's hope it comes soon. <crosses fingers>

All at Disney must die a horrible and painful death.

Pinhead, you and your Cenobites rip them apart!

If anyone has one of these ED WOOD region 1 DVDs and is willing to sell it to me, I would gladly buy it, and re-sell it immediately to anyone on this message board who wants it. Thanks.

I called my local Suncoast and they said, "I did hear that." He checks his computer: "We still have it for Feb. 3rd". And this is in Omaha, NE. Here's hoping....

But now Amazon.com says it is 'currently unavaible', but don't you think a major dvd website would prove or deny this rumor soon?

This is one of the rare instances that I am glad I never saw this film or read up on it, so I thankfully don't know what I'm missing.

If it ever does come out in R1, I will pick it up just to find out why all the hype.

Same as DUEL...I managed to buy DUEL on Ebay (1 of the few copies that made it out before it got pulled), saw it, then resold it immediately. I'd love to do the same with ED WOOD.

From what I have heard this is pure speculation. Zentropa was dropped due to differences between the US distributor holder Prestige & the Mouse.

Here's hoping Beat opted to do a Battle Royale on the House of Mouse for the supposed full-frame release they had planned for Sonatine.

What film tie-in held up Naqoyqatsi?

I doubt that the House of Mouse is this crafty.... I smell something else that is cheesey....

Also, I'd strongly recommend to anyone with a Coconuts, Strawberries, or fye near them to check to see if they go out early.
You may be onto something here. I asked about it at the local Coconuts this afternoon and was told that their only copy had been sold earlier today. Now, to check the five area fye stores...

The huh? is because, well, we understand your reasoning. But no one is going to sell you a copy if that's your intent. There are more than enough people on this board who actually want the DVD and aren't looking for a profit.

Guys, make your statement with the wallet. Go region free, get the zone 2 so you have the movie, and when they finally decide work through the unforseen difficulties, let it sit on the shelf because you already have the film.

I am not looking for a profit either. I will resell it at the exact same price as what I'll pay for it. I'm not out to make a buck on it, I just want to see it, it's a classic that I loved when it first came out and am dying to see it again.

There's only one that I'm aware of. Very interesting. Let us know if you do, in fact, receive it.
