I may have missed a post or two but very, if any, people in the western states have found any.

Hasn't a new release of Duel been announced for 2004?

While it wouldn't surprise me if it had, it would certainly be news if it has officially. I think they said at the time to expect 2004, but I don't think anything's been officially said.

However, I'd love to be wrong on that, as it's the only of the three Spielberg TV movies which I don't own, so please, prove me wrong.

I found an FYE with 10 in stock, but they said it's $29.99, no sale price listed. Is that right? Was it $29.99 for anyone else who found it?

Yesterday.. while stopping for dinner at my local cheesy strip mall "Redstone" in Stoneham MA, I decided to stop in Strawberries figuring I would find nothing. After a bit of searching I found 4 of them, I bought 2 of them right away ...one for me and then one for my buddy who's been waiting forever for this thing to come out, I called him on my cell after I got them and he was yelling over the phone how happy he was. I went back today to see if the other 2 we're still there and they we're so I bought em. I got one for ebay and one to hang onto and keep sealed. When I bought the 2 copies today the lady behind the counter looked somewhat confused, and I could tell she wanted to say something but she didn't. I figured she was gonna take em away from me but I got out the door with em heh ...The moral of this story is check all the record stores that are affiliated with Coconuts,Strawberries,FYE etc...because they are the only places they seem to be coming from, hence all the yellow price tags on ebay{same stores}...I've yet to hear from someone getting them at a different chain. Good Luck guys

grrrrrrr... my friend got there and they wouldn't sell it. He was like "my brother called and you told him you had 10 in stock." The guy was like "yeah, they're in stock. we have them in the back, but we can't sell them cause they've been recalled." bastards. they could've disclosed that information on the phone, but then they wouldn't have suckered someone into their overpriced POS store.

Sorry to hear it Evo ...thats just wrong. They could have at least told you they weren't for sale over the phone, instead of getting your hopes up. Im sure you'll snag one somewhere keep the faith, I just don't understand what the big stinkin' secret is about the recall, why can't they just say why it was yanked??????

My Ed Wood Update:

After responding to Tarnowers post, something he said struck me:

My local Suncoast at Palm Beach Mall let me pay for it in advance, and is saving me a copy for next Tuesday. I just called last night and still no recall in their system. But there's still so much damned time left before street date. Time is definitely not on my side.

So with nothing to lose, I returned to my local Suncoast and asked the employee behind the counter about Pre-Ordering Ed Wood (It was a male this time so I immediately knew my dinner offer was out of the question -- At least on MY end!).

He looked through the system (It's still scheduled to come out that day) and rang up the Pre-Order/Sale price for Tuesday ($19.99! Ten Bucks cheaper than yesterday....IF I could have gotten it). I paid the man and walked out clutching my last hope in the form of a Pre-Order slip.

We'll see what happens between now and then. If they get the recall notice and I can't get the DVD, I'll just get my money back. If they DO release it, I'll have one waiting for me Tuesday morning.

No harm, no foul.

Fingers crossed.....

Andrew

returnwarehouse actually had some left, and there was an update from the seller today stating they were still for sale. I bought the last ones though. =( Was shocked to see them sitting there this late. The page now says "none available" so I'm assuming real-time inventory. Good news. My day is made (assuming they ship).

Haven't even opened it yet. I had a crap load of homework tonight and just got done with it all. Guess I'll throw it in now and check out some of the special features. I'm especially eager to check out "Lets shoot the f***er!"

By the way, I used the pricegrabber returnwarehouse storefront. Maybe the half.com inventory was different? Puzzling.

The employee who rang me up was more concerned telling me about the Entertainment Weekly promotion than the DVD itself. Even on the price sticker it clearly states "STFEB03." Interestingly enough, I searched in the Sam Goody in Menlo and found nothing. I wonder if it was only this particular store or what.

This was the highlight of my day. Thanks so much for letting us know where had them.
God bless you, Drop! I called the Woodbridge Sam Goody this afternoon and asked them to hold a copy for me. Just came back from picking it up. As RG3 said, the employee who rang me up was really pushing the EW promo, but he DID question the release date. Then he sold it to me anyway. Didn't see any others on the shelf, but I didn't look very hard.

Thanks again for the info!

Vale, I
just done the same thing, called the nearest FYE, girl said they had two left then asked if she would hold until I got there which reply was sure. Drive 30 min go into the store ask for the 2 DVD's, she says there's a problem, I think she saw there recalled she says we can't sell them until tuesday I asked you got more than 2 in the shipment didn't you? She replied yes when I got off the phone I saw the street date and can't let them go until then. I said well you sold some already can;t you do those two and she said well it looks to be a problem I can let you prepay and hold them here under the counter until tuesday and you come pick them up.
I hope she didn;t see anything about a recall and I'll get them tuesday, but i'll call before I head over after work to make sure there still there.

The frustrating thing this that these DVDs are so close, so close and yet so far. I tried bribes at FYEs in Toledo, Ohio and got nowhere fast. The sad part is that if this title ever does make streetdate, it will likely not have some feature it does right now. It's kind of like the Boogie Nights documentary that was mentioned in reviews and later got pulled. Yes, the disc is out but that hour long documentary is gone!

It would still be nice if somebody could confirm whether the copyright date on the DVD is 2003 or 2004? If new pressings weren't made after August, I find it hard to believe they'd make new ones after this debacle. Apologies if the copyright date was confirmed already. Also, with the rumors about a major flaw in the disc... isn't it odd that it would take buena vista more than 6 months to find a problem? Did they even test the thing when it was first pressed?

I'm pretty sure it's a new disc. It's new packaging, for sure.

I went to 6 places today (and called 3 more) looking for this disc!
Well, I called 2 places last night, went to 3 more, and no luck.. Went out today and hit a whopping 5 places, and lucked out at the last one and found three copies!

This was at a Sam Goody in Sanford, FL.. The lady kind of giggled when I brought them up and said "Buying us out?" I asked if that was a problem, and she said no. The thrill of the hunt finally paid off. I love a challenge like this.

So then there might be truth to the speculation they just want to repackage it again with oscar-winner tags all over it if elfman, murray, or depp get an award? It goes without saying I'm sure, but BV really pisses me off. If the discs have problems, they should say so.

My brother's near there. I called them today. Oh well, I got mine anyway... I think.
