I realize this thread is about the recall and availability of the"Ed Wood" DVD, but I'd just like to throw out a mention regarding the performance of Martin Landau in this film. For those who have not seen the movie, you are in for an absolute treat when you see Martin Landau's incredible, all-consuming supporting performance as a drug-addicted Bela Lugosi. Landau actually won the Supporting Actor Oscar for this role (the film's wonderful Makeup also won an Oscar). People are buzzing about how Charlize Theron has "become" Aileen Wuornos in "Monster," that her performance is more an "embodiment" than acting. Well, I'd have to say the same about Landau's in this film. It is, quite simply, one of the most deserving Oscar wins for acting that I think I've ever seen. It's just heartbreaking.

Wrong. It will go lower. Too many are going up and on 2/3 the rest will go out. Could be 200-300 on ebay by next week.

Duel was rare compared to Ed Wood with only 5-10 auctions going on at any selected time.

$204.00...OMG

Found a copy (they had two) at a local Sam Goody last night. Not thrilled at paying $29.99, but I am just glad I have it as it leaves the Star Wars trilogy (and some old concerts) as the only VHS titles from my collection that are not out on dvd.

Wow, we've gone from not being able to find the disc to complaining about the price.

My status: no shipping confirmation from returnwarehouse yet, an order confirmation from totalcampus, and DVD Legacy is sitting on the order doing nothing.

Fingers still crossed...

I still have the SW stuff on laserdisc, as well as some Mel Brooks movies (High Anxiety, Silent Movie, To Be or Not To Be).

For those of us who purchased Ed Wood from returnwarehouse on half.com, I just checked the site and it shows my order as "shipped" . Still no e-mail from returnwarehouse but hopefully this another good sign.

hrmm... the returnwarehouse order page at pricegrabber has no status. Guess I'll just cross my fingers.

That's just an automated update. The seller could drag their feet for weeks if they choose.

Well, they're not allowed to charge your credit card until it has shipped, so keep checking those bank statements.

It's no longer available on Walmart.com. My order is still in "processing," but it's not looking good over there, folks.

The Sam Goody in Woodbridge Mall either pulled them from the shelves or sold out of them. I was there this morning to get a copy for a friend, the girlfriend and her roommate but no luck.

I did talk to an employee at Suncoast who told me that they have them in the back but can't sell them until Feb 3. She heard nothing about them being recalled.

Also does this new SE contain the extra "When Carol Met Larry"? That was listed on the original release coverart.

It would also be great to hear from people who have actually watched this all the way through to see whether there are any problems. A brief review from someone over at home theater forum didn't mention anything wrong.
This is only 1 disc. Yes, "When Carol met Larry" is on this disc. I have watched the movie all the way through once, and left it in the background twice. No problems. I've also watched all the extras, except I have not listened to the commentary yet.

I've also run it on an Xbox and a crappy Akai player, so I don't think there are any major player specific problems.

Any update from DVD Legacy buyers? I purchased their 2nd "Buy It Now" auction about 3 PM (Central) on Tuesday, and my order status is still "Payment In Process."

I've sent them 2 emails about this, and they haven't responded at all.

Matt

I ordered three separate ones off of half.com, and all three were cancelled in the last 24 hours as "wrongly listed inventory" or somesuch. I imagine they are actually now on eBay selling for ridiculous amounts.

Oh, well.

(By the by, I didn't order 3 to sell them for profit. I tried each seller that claimed to have them, and figured if more than 1 hit, I have enough friends who want the same thing. So don't look at me like that! )

Someone on this thread (about 100 pages ago) said Amazon shipped their order, and part of it included Ed Wood. Did that lucky bas... er... buyer actually receive it? (Because Amazon is definitely not selling this anymore.)

Looks like February 3rd is going to be fun as I drive from store to store like a frantic idiot.

DVD Legacy fell through. I just got this notice:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us.

The manufacturing company has stopped the release of this movie for
indefinite time of period. We are refunding everybody who has ordered this
DVD. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Sincerely,

Dvd Legacy

grrr.......

I love that... "indefinite time of period." :P

Isn't that usually 5-7 days? I'll have to ask my wife...

I found 2 at my local Spec's Music (in Miami, FL). I called around to other Spec's but the only ones that have it already know about the recall.

Just got back from my local Wal-Mart. (Akron, OH) They had about 20-25 copies out for $22.99 each. I picked up 3 for myself and friends. It was tempting to buy them all and make a quick profit by selling them on ebay.

Huh. I've gotten notice from dvdlegacy that my order has shipped. If they try and pull any crap with me there will be hell to pay. returnwarehouse still shows in packaging, though, but it says it should arrive next week.

I got mine from Buy.com. They always ship pre-orders early to me, for some reason.

Now I'll have to scour the stores to see if I can pick up another one to keep wrapped "just in case" it's not available again.

I was just at the Wal-Mart here in town, and the girl in the dept. didn't even know it was supposed to come out next week. I saw a stack of "New Release" boxes, and the only one I couldn't get to was on the bottom. I'm crossing my fingers that they show up next week, and that I can PM w/ an existing ad. We'll just have to wait and see...

The RUMOR is that apparently Disney doesn't own the rights to Ed Wood - but who knows...

This whole thing sounds like an attempt to cash in on Academy Award nominations. They are betting that Bill Murray wins an Oscar and the additional Depp stuff will help.

I feel sorry for those spending hundreds of dollars on this disc, when it will proably be released within the year.
