Ah, well if you are limited to 43”, go ahead and stick with the UP8000. But, if you could make the room, the Hisense is quite better.

I don't have the room unfortunately.

I think the Sony KD43X80J would be a better TV. But of course it cost much more.

I would love to have that, but my budget is around $400 and I can't afford the extra $150 Sony tax.

Re: 4K TV Recommendations

My ancient Sony 52 inch HD set has developed a green line on startup. Goes away after a while but I know it's only gonna get worse.

Looking at the 65 inch LG C1. Very highly rated and reviewed, and the demo model in the store looks incredible. But then again, they all do. I know part of it is I'm so used to my antique set, but am I really going to notice a big difference between this set ($1800 at BB) vs. something like the Sony XR X90J at $1200? I know the sub-$1000 sets aren't for me, and I'm leery of the "off brands" like Hisense, TCL, and whatnot.

The money's not a real big deal, but the extra $600 would go a long way towards a premium soundbar.

Go for the C1, you won’t regret it. Once you get spoiled by OLED blacks, you’ll never look back.

You might want to wait until Black Friday to see what kind of deals pop up. You could also go for the CX if price is a factor, as there is very little difference between the two.

Yeah, OLED reigns supreme, except for possible burn-in. But those who buy OLED usually have that in mind.

Or we can all wait until 2022 for…. QD-OLED.

Buy now, argue with your significant other later.

Yeah. Went to BB today and while they all look good, I know I'll hit the limitations of the cheaper ones sooner rather than later. Not worried about burn in mainly because I'm not a gamer.

And I might as well wait till next week. This weekend is bad in terms of logistics. Worst case scenario I wait until the super bowl sales, unless my Sony shits the bed.

I'm still leery about burn-in when when it comes to OLED.

Is burn-in a concern when watching pillarboxed 4:3 content or 2.35:1 letterboxed content? I would think that having those fixed black areas on the screen would have the same effect as the fixed graphics on games.

No, black is essentially pixels OFF, so no need to worry there. The worry for burn-in on OLEDs is completely overblown. You’d really have to do the absolute worst to make it happen (CNN news ticker 24 hours a day for months for example). Rtings did a video awhile back stress testing OLEDs, which showed just how badly you’d have to abuse it for there to be permanent burn in.

The LG C1 apparently has some sort of behind the scenes pixel "cleaning" function when the TV is off. Saw something about not unplugging it when not in use as to not interfere with it.

Again, not overblown - it’s properly…blown. This is why even in today’s new OLED’s, they still post warnings about burn-in. It’s more rare these days, but it can still happen. That’s warning enough. Even Rtings reviews state they are still possible with the OLED tech.

I would imagine at this point in time, burn-in risk on OLED is probably much less than plasma TVs and the traditional tube TVs that we had for more than a half a century.

Re: 4K TV Recommendations

Absolutely. I don’t think though that OLED will ever fix this 100%, but probably the future versions like QD-OLED will probably fix that or make it even more rare of an occurrence.

LG has been using this for years, not just with the C1. It performs a short pixel refresh after 4 hours of use, after the TV is turned off. Every 2000 hours of use, it will run a more thorough, complete pixel refresh cycle automatically.

I believe they paid about $1099.99 for it. A week later I saw it on BB site for $100 less. So they got back $100 from BB. They really
like their Samsung 55" Q80A 4K TV. Lets hope her sons kid does not throw anything at this tv.

Re: 4K TV Recommendations

I'm going to go with the LG UP8000 43 inch tv. I didn't realize viewing angles were a thing with new TVs. This will be for my bedroom and I rarely watch tv in bed. I usually watch from the left side on the exercise bike or from my desk in my bedroom that's also on the left side. The UP8000 seems to have wide viewing angles. I almost went with the SAMSUNG UN43AU8000FXZA since it's on sale for $20 less right now, but it has narrow viewing angles according to rtings.com

Yup. The C1 also has a feature that will 'dim' anything it detects as a static logo/HUD. The older models didn't have that in the firmware as far as I know. That's in addition to the pixel refresh and the pixel shifting they already do.
Again, burn-in isn't 100% solved, but they've come a long way.
I'd say if anyone is going to get a C1, get it from Costco right now. Same listed price as everywhere else + $100 streaming credit + 3 additional years of warranty (5 years total). Seems like the most comprehensive deal...

Re: 4K TV Recommendations

I'm going to have to end up getting the LG UP7000 43 inch tv. After measuring the furniture it was going to set on, the UP8000 stand is going to be an inch too wide. There's not much difference between the sets on rtings.com.

Here's a long story about my currently awful experience with buying a new set after I knocked over my wonderful Vizio 55" & broke it:
