OLEDs are incredible, but he's afraid of burn-in.

Re: 4K TV Recommendations

I had my heart set on an oled for two years, but yeah the burn in risk just bothered me enough to give up. I’ve babied plasmas for almost ten years. I’m just done being careful of what I watch and play.

If I often watch hours of old tv shows at a time, and do not stretch them (so the black bars are still on the sides) should I steer clear of OLED?

No, that isn't so much a problem. It's static logos and graphics from news tickers and videogames that is the problem for OLED. Especially gaming with its high-contrast backgrounds.

Exactly why I stayed away from buying a OLED.
I remember when I was deciding to buy a Plasma TV. Took me a long time to purchase one. I finally purchased a 50" Panasonic model. I even burn the burn-in file to a Dvd-r & ran it for 5-6 straight days on the tv. But unfortunately the tv
lasted less than 3 years. It failed with the 7 blinking red lights of death.

the H9G and run into this problem. Another problem this is also OOS at BB & in-store. Where is probably where I would buy it from.

Re: 4K TV Recommendations

Pulled the trigger on the 65" LG CX OLED on Sale now at Costco with a 3 year Warranty included for $1850 plus tax.

I'm not a big gamer and I don't watch the news tickers at all so my TV time is limited to mostly 7-10pm at night and this TV should fit the bill as I was looking for an eye popping picture. I have a DLP now and haven't upgraded in 14 years, so looking forward to it!

I've had no issues with the set and I have the H8F. There's been 2-3 firmware updates since I got it back in February. It did take about a month to break it in, but that may have been user error on my part and calibrating it, along with the devices connected to it. For me, it was just about the money saved. Got it on Amazon, too.

School me on HiSense. Everything else about that listing, from price to specs to size, is what we're looking for in an upgrade from our 55" Samsung UHD 4K. We've only got Samsung TV the last few years is this going to be noticeably different?

Also, it has built-in Chromecast, anyone know if this will let me cast my Oculus Quest? It's supposed to work with a plug-and-play Chromecast, no idea on a built-in.

Wow, that's a phenomenal price and it has HDR/Dolby Vision. I don't use the apps from the TV since I have a PS4 and Apple TV 4K, so those act as my primary hubs. I don't know anything about Oculus.

I have this one, which was last years model:

Amazon Amazon

The new one would be:

Amazon Amazon

Re: 4K TV Recommendations

This is the non black friday version of that tv reviewed:
https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/hisense/h6570g

For the price, probably great if you don't need top of the line or wide viewing angles. Apparently the android part of it sucks, so buy a fire stick or roku or something if you want streaming apps.

I don't think the tvs that WhySoBlu mentioned are the equivalent, though. Amazon equivalent is this:
Amazon Amazon

though they don't have 65 inch in stock. A comparison of those models:

Re: 4K TV Recommendations

Accordingly to a post at slickdeals. The Hisense H6510G has two spots for the legs. A little over 22" for the middle leg holes & 42" for the outside leg holes.

I also pulled the trigger on this TV. I've yet to fire it up (just to test it works) as I'm installing it over a fireplace and I'm in the process of installing the fireplace as well. I read amazing things about this unit.

I'm interested in hearing your thoughts as to why not. I've taken all the precautions... the TV is at least 5 feet above the fireplace and there is a mantle. It's not even remotely hot to the touch where the TV is mounted. I hope all that will make things ok.

My pet peeve with this is that the TV will always be far too high when mounted above a fireplace. Ideally the TV should be at eye level. It's understandable if you have absolutely no other option, but that is the last place I'd want to put it.

Mounting them too high is like watching TV in a bar. My next one will be wall mounted, but not any higher than the one on my stand.
