Re: 4K TV Recommendations

Do you run those apps through the tv or through a streaming device?

I don't have that tv but I was having trouble with only YouTube TV. I run most of my apps through a Fire Stick. Nothing seemed to work until I did a power reset of my Fire Stick. Cleared the problem up.

Hbo Max and Disney + both work fine.
Has anyone else experienced this? I had to head to work so I couldn’t try much. I force closed the app an cleared the data. I’d rather not reset the whole tv but if I gotta, I gotta.
I have an 850C and when my apps go wonky, I hold down the power button on the tv remote for a few seconds, and it restarts the tv and Android service....and that usually fixes it.

Yep I run them through the tv itself. I ended up unplugging the tv for a few minutes and that fixed the issue for now. If this happens again I’ll try the power button thing. That’s a lot easier than chasing cords.

thanks for the tips guys.

Re: 4K TV Recommendations

Latest and greatest for 2021 will be revealed in the next couple of weeks. LG will be showcasing their new QNED technology. Not as good as OLED per this article. I'm curious to see the new Sony, LG, and TCL models, although I'm not a fan of how fast they're pushing to get out 8K they way they've been doing. No doubt we'll see more this year.

We are now in a corner condo unit that gets the morning and afternoon sun very nicely but the glare on our tv is pretty bad when it’s sunny. Are there any 4K models, at least 60” , that have some kind of anti glare covering on the screen?

Take your pick. Sounds like you need a matted finish. TCL's are also really good against that type of glare.

Re: 4K TV Recommendations

Since I don't want to derail the TCL thread, I decided to ask here instead. Any 70" 4K TV recommendations? Looking for something preferably under $800. Any Black Friday deals I should be aware of?

Boom. That's the TV for us, right there. Samsung products (phones, TVs, etc.) have always worked well for us. We want to move the 2018 Samsung 55" 4K TV upstairs, sell the 2011 Samsung 55" HDTV locally, and pick up this 2021 Samsung 70" 4K TV to put in the basement. I just picked up two Samsung 65" 4K TVs for work at Target on sale for $549 each, so essentially the same TV at 70" and $599 feels like an excellent price to me. We have a $200 Amazon gift card burning a hole in our pocket, plus an Amazon credit card, so here's hoping for a price match.

Doesn't have Dolby Vision.

I don’t think story said he wanted DV. But it is a very good TV.

You may not want to look into it, unless you just want the knowledge of current home video tech. If DV turns out to be something you want, if you want to use DV on 4k disc (for those releases that were mastered with DV), you'll need a 4k blu-ray player with DV capabilities.

Re: 4K TV Recommendations

It’s another flavor like HDR, HDR+, etc. Yeah, you may not want to look into it, as it trends to piss people off when they get a TV with DV, then notices the whole picture is a little darker, whereas. HDR is brighter overall. Most movies on disc and digital offer both HDR and DV, so you’re not missing out on much if you get a TV without Dolby Vision.

You've had a Samsung 4K TV since 2018 so I don't think your going to need or miss DV. I'm also leaning towards this 4K TV. It would be replacing a Samsung UN58J5190AFXZA (1080p) TV that I purchased in 12/2015 for $550. My current 1080P TV also only has 2 HDMI ports.
My only question is whether this will play H265 MKV files thru the USB port which mine does not.

Re: 4K TV Recommendations

DV is VERY nice to have as it uses dynamic metadata where HDR does not. Dolby Vision almost always looks superior to HDR on a proper setup. The problem with these cheap TVs is that their peak brightness is nowhere near where it should be for true DV or HDR, so you sometimes hear people complain that HDR or DV is too dark. DV automatically uses your TVs capabilities and adjusts peak brightness of the source material where HDR does not (unless capping your HDR brightness with the HDR optimizer on a Panny UHD player, which is great).

In HDR, anything in the source above your TV's peak brightness will be clipped. A 200 nit TV does not give you a true HDR experience and I personally think it's shitty that they even market these TVs as HDR/DV capable. Not everyone really cares all that much about HDR/DV or even picture quality in general, but know what you are getting into when buying a $600 70" TV.

I'm thinking about getting this LG - 43” Class UP7000 Series LED 4K UHD Smart webOS TV for my bedroom.

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-43-c...?skuId=6453968

I'll be using it for gaming and watching tv. This will be my first new tv in over 10 years and my first 4K tv. Does anyone have this tv? Would you recommend me buying it?

Re: 4K TV Recommendations

Thanks guys. I think I'm leaning towards the LG UP8000 now. Tech Steve compared the 7000, 8000, and the Nano cell and he said the 8000 was the best buy. I like that the 8000 has 3 HDMI inputs and the 7000 only has 2. I'm going to wait until Black Friday and hope there's a price drop.

The Hisense U6G would be a FAR better TV at that price point. The LG UP8000 is not a very good set.

It doesn't seem that Hisense makes a 40 inch model. 50 inches is too big for my bedroom. Would a Samsung 43 inch be a better set?
