When you're using the in store 5 dollar coupon, how are people going about using it multiple times? Do the employees usually just scan through all the dvd's with the 5 dollar coupon without saying anything or do you say something specific?
Also, do we know of a confirmed end date for the sale yet?
Thanks.

And that Rebel Samurai sixties swordplay set is just cool and fun.
You have a good collection started. I probably only have half of the selections you have.

made out pretty well in store:
400 Blows
Vengeance is Mine
Wise Blood
Brazil
Rules of the Game
for under $55
cashier was pretty cool about it however did not want to scan the $5 off $50 because he thought me and my friend were "getting away with enough"

Well I may attempt that new 25% off in store coupon today and see what happens. Just placed another order though for Wages blu, and I never got around to upgrading Charade or Beauty and The Beast so this seemed like a good opportunity.

I've gone twice so far, no problems in using multiple coupons (only used 3 per day.)
Tuesday:
The Last Temptation of Christ
Stranger Than Paradise
Dazed and Confused
Wednesday:
The Ice Storm
The Hit
M
May go back one more time (not exactly sure what else I want) but so far getting 6 Criterions for under $79 is incredible.

Got stonewalled at the South Hills (Pittsburgh) BN.
At first I was going to get 4 individual discs and the Makavejev Eclipse, but thought better about it and only went up with two discs, figuring I didn't want to turn into that guy if I got denied. The clerk spent about five minutes reading the fine print - seriously - and then said I could only use it once. Period. She even specified one per account. I was like, "nah, you got that wrong cuz I'll be back tomorrow!" Or what I really said which was "okay, thank you. Just these two." I'll go back tomorrow morning, get the Makavejev and call it a sale, me thinks. Though I do still want Monsoon Wedding in Blu.
I got the two I really wanted anyway. Z and Last Days of Disco. I can finally ditch the Disco VHS tape.
Maybe the teenagers will be working tomorrow. I love it when the teenagers work.

Re: Criterion DVD's and Blu-Rays 50% off at Barnes and Noble 11/10
Confirmed use of the 25% off in store. Picked up Rohmer's Six Moral Tales for $36 and some change out the door. I think the cashier (who has seen way too much of me lately) was relieved to get a new coupon, but stunned that I was taking their big ticket item for 65% regular price. I've only had them give me grief once on a coupon and it wasn't that they didn't want to take it, just that the cashier didn't know how to do it. For the most part, they're pretty cool about it, but I only try one movie at a time.

I thought I was done with this sale, but this new 25% off coupon will most likely lead me to the purchase of the Cassavetes set (for $38 before tax) and Seven Samurai (for $13 before tax) on separate trips. Is this sale over yet? My girlfriend has had it haha.

Wow, I officially have a problem. Between two B&N stores and having a friend go in after me to make purchases to avoid problems with multiple coupon uses, I picked up:
Band of Outsiders
The Ice Storm
Mon Oncle Antoine
Amarcord
High and Low
The Rules of the Game
The Battle of Algiers
Mamma Roma
Le Cercle Rouge
Ran (OOP, yeah!)
Bicycle Thieves

I went in person to use both the member and non-member 25% coupons - got Complete Monterey Pop for $28 and change, and Post-War Kurosawa for $25 and change. I'm making the whole family go to a different location with me tonight.

I just got back from the Westport store. A couple of nice oldtimers were working the section. They wouldn't ring up the four together, so the $5 off of $50 plan went out the door. However, they had no problem doing it one at a time for $13 each. The Blu-ray selection was lacking, but they had a reasonable supply of SDs.

Got a different cashier this time, she only let me use one $5 coupon. Hopefully she'll be off tomorrow!

I probably mentioned this last sale, but it's interesting how many of us bargain hounds, who refuse to pay more than $5 for a DVD, will gladly pay almost triple that for a Criterion.
I think they're easily worth it, giving the amount of excellence Criterion puts into their releases, coupled with their customer service, and, for me, the collectibility aspect of them.

That's funny because the cashier said the same thing to me and would only let me buy one. You didn't happen to shop at the one in Newington, NH?

Picked up Naked City, Kagemusha, and Third Man. Also picked up non-Criterion Blu-ray with 25% coupon.
Planning on heading back tomorrow with more coupons and see if there is anything else that strikes my fancy.
What did you score?

How about another Renoir? Grand Illusion is essential. And you could finish of of the Antoine Doinel series with the Truffaut boxset. Bicycle Thieves and Umberto D are two essentials of Italian cinema.
And that Rebel Samurai sixties swordplay set is just cool and fun.
You have a good collection started. I probably only have half of the selections you have.

I heard that the rest of Antoine Doinel doesn't measure up to Les Quatre Cent Coups, so I'm not sure about those.
I'll have to check out Bicycle Theives and see if it's for me.
Are you familiar with Friends of Eddie Coyle? I almost bought that one earlier.

For those of you who want a DVD or Blu-ray that is sold out. Ask them if they can place an order for you at the store. You pay on the spot, but they mail it to your house. In doing so, you will be able to use the $5 off coupon. Granted you need to get over $25 total to get free shipping, but if there's a book or something else you want, this is one way around it.

Re: Criterion DVD's and Blu-Rays 50% off at Barnes and Noble 11/10
The rest of the series isn't as naturalistic as the first but all are more than worthy. I feel that Love on the Run is possibly the greatest conclusion to a series I've ever seen. The box also includes Antione and Colette which is worth the price of the box alone.
