SBJ - How did you make out at the Westport store? I am heading there tomorrow evening.
Did they have a good selection of in-stock Criterions?
Did they give you any grief about using multiple $5 coupons?
Thanks.

Anyone else seeing the new clear keepcase version of Rules of the Game? Hadn't seen them until my recent trip out to B&N.

I am jealous of everyone with their accommodating cashiers, since I haven't one. I'm having to place a bunch of orders online. Unless someone knows of a coupon-friendly BN in Dallas.

This film was actually a blind buy for me. I read the back cover and pulled the trigger. Pretty easy to roll the dice at $13 per...not so much at $40.

I'm happy with $5 off each movie. Separate transactions can usually sway most cashiers. The extra $5 off $50 takes some stones.

It's a classic. You made a good choice. Good double feature with Gosford Park. Didn't know about the new packaging for that one either. I did see new packaging for Short Cuts sans the novel. Wonder what other running changes Criterion has made.

I absolutely hate inconsistent practices within the same store regarding using multiple coupons. On Monday I bought Mamma Roma and Bicycle Thieves using two coupons. The employee was super nice, took both coupons without question. I was happy. Go back there today and a different dude gives me shit about using two coupons for Amarcord and The Lady Vanishes. I try and play dumb, asking "Oh will two coupons not scan?", to which he replies "No they will. I just can't accept two coupons". I felt like asking him the hours he will be working for the next week. I just don't see the problem in taking two coupons, it's not like the difference is coming out of your paycheck, buddy.

I wouldn't be upset at any employee refusing to honor a coupon. They're just doing their job, and technically, few, if any, of us really qualify for the coupons.
That said, if B&N really wanted to limit multiple uses, it would be insanely easy to do so. Pretty much every other chain/site has their system allow one use per person. Heck, B&N's own website only allows one use. So they must make a small profit even at $13 per Criterion, and by inaction want all the sales.
Again, if they denied me every time I wouldn't be upset. But I'll try the coupons every time I drive by one of their stores.

I was thinking about grabbing the Nikkatsu Noir set. Plus, it's good to have the 25% off coupon on hand if they try to limit you to just one $5 off coupon usage.

I am considering buy the membership online tonight to buy some items, then heading to the store tomorrow to buy some more. Does anyone know if there is a delay with buying it online? I know if you purchase the membership in store that it can take up to 3 days before it's usable online, is this the same if you buy it online then try to use it in the store?

There may be a slight delay online but I don't think it's more than 24 hours. Once you get the email with your member number you can print that and bring it to the store with you.

Re: Criterion DVD's and Blu-Rays 50% off at Barnes and Noble 11/10
Thanks so much for the military website suggestion. Used it and the coupon. As a non member, I got:
Nikkatsu Noir: $28.88 (w/Cali tax)
The First Films Of Samuel Fuller: $18.56 (w/Cali tax)
There is so, so much I want, but I will most likely go back for The Friends Of Eddie Coyle and The Last Days Of Disco.
