Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

One of my local stores has a $5 section dedicated to Horror movies. They had the $5 section before, but never for just horror flicks. I picked up "Pumpkinhead 2", 'Leprechaun', "Wishmaster 1 and 2". They were all in the same dvd. Haven't opened it yet so don't know if they all are on one disc or what, but I can live with it lol

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

My Walmart redid an endcap, with seemingly random movies. Parts look like it was dedicated to St. Patrick's Day, and others seem like some leftover DVDs were put up to fill the shelf. Anyway, they had the 3 disc Leprechaun collection (with the slipcover) for 7.50. They also had a second Leprechaun collection with the last 3 films (In Space/In the Hood/Back 2 tha Hood) for 7.50. I haven't seen this anywhere else, but picked it up as I already had the first collection. The packaging looks extremely similar to the first collection, and the 3 DVDs all are the Lionsgate white discs with black text. I have a pretty horrid memory and don't remember much of what else was on the endcap, just that it was random.

Awesome news on the new collection of the last three movies. Were they in full or wide?

Pumpkinhead 2? Wow! I haven't seen that at any of my Walmarts!

I didn't even think to look and just assumed they were all widescreen (shame on me!). In Space is full screen, while In the Hood and Back 2 tha Hood are widescreen. IMDb doesn't list an OAR for In Space, but I'm guessing it may have been shot in full screen as it and Leprechaun 3 were the first straight-to-video films, and both are full screen (at least in the Leprechaun collections). I could be wrong, though.

Edit: Yeah, just checked the review on DVD Talk for In Space, and it was shot full frame.

Went to the larger WM here today... nothing new except the "dump shelves" are gone in favor of a "dump bin" again.

I couldn't bring myself to look through the mess especially since half a row of the wire racks is $5 titles.

Their $13.00 and $14.96 selection has been reduced and basically the only DVDs that are still $19.96, $22.96 or $24.96 are the newer releases. There's another one by me that's a little farther away that I have yet to check.
I guess misery loves company because at least I don't feel quite as bad knowing that my local Walmart isn't the only one in the US whose electronics section is now hardly worth entering. For comparison I went to a newer Walmart and they still had the $12.99 TV season 2-packs, a much bigger BD section, and 1 extra row (both sides) of DVDs (mostly alphabetized). However, even at that better Walmart, there's still nothing I want. I have yet to see a Walmart without a $5 bin, and I think the last time I found something I wanted in the $5 bin there was 1-2 years ago (Daybreak series, non-crappy packaging version, I think). But given time I expect this better Walmart will eventually cut its DVD and BD section down to crap too. All I know is that on the rare occasions I see something old I want to PM, I rarely bother going to Walmart because they won't have it... I'm pretty much forced to Best Buy or Target to have any semblance of a selection.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Was looking thru the New Release DVD section at my Wal Mart this morning and spotted the Clash of the Titans re-release that came out last week for $10. It came with a coupon for up to $7.50 off the price of a ticket to the remake that comes out in a few weeks. Snatched one up as I want to see the remake and get rid of my old snapper DVD.

Anybody still finding Happy Birthday To Me for $5? I never got around to picking it up and now I can't seem to find one.

I won't be getting $5 DVDs at Wal-mart anytime soon. When I went in last night, an employee was in the process of taking movies off the rack and putting them in a dump bin. He wasn't happy about it either.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Well with the bad comes some good. My local Walmart took all their cheap Blu-rays down last night as well. But today were starting to put up new $6.00 and $7.50 DVDs. Lots of great random titles. Not the kind of titles you see everyday. So yea... It's not BD but at least we can get some new great deals on SD titles. I guess when it comes to Walmart SD just sell a whole heck of a lot better than BD. For now that is...

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Yeah, in a box in the Back I saw a few $6 movies such as Milk, The Pianist, Frost/Nixon. I scanned those ones and they were all $6, there were a few more in the box that I already had and didn't care to scan such as Deer Hunter. I Thought 6 bucks was pretty good for those but seems like blus are starting to be under 10 so I figured i might as well wait and pay around the same price for those movies on bluuuuu.

The only title out of those you mentioned I saw was Deer Hunter. There were about what looked to be 100 more or so. The entire fixture was all $6.00 & $7.50 titles.

I picked up Animal House: Double Secret Probation Edition for $5, and it wasn't an eco-case! I guess I just got lucky.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Picked up the following today.

The Outsiders: 2 disc set $5
RV (Widescreen) $5
Burn After Reading $7

Also saw a whole bunch of Oscar winning films for $6 each with a golden front. Such titles ranging from Cocoon to The Flying Tigers.

The WM I usually go to also had the Adventures of Ma & Pa Kettle volumes for around $14 each.

"the outsiders" 2 disc special edition for $5 was a very nice find, it is the extended directors cut.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Sorry if these have been mentioned before, but I just came from my local Wal-mart where I saw these new additions to cheap TV on DVD area...

Six Feet Under - Seasons 1, 2 and 5 for $14.96 each.
Carnivale - Seasons 1 and 2 for $14.96 each.

Both excellent HBO series for those who haven't seen them.

Nothing else I noticed new, and both Star Trek Entreprise and Voyager season 1's now appear to be gone.

I'm tempted by Carnivale at $15 but I've heard some negative reviews from friends so I may resist.

I see Amazon now has them for $15.99.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

My local Wal-mart took out their $10 DVDs and replaced them with $7.50 Vampires and Werewolves DVDs. They had a big variety including 80s cult classics like My Best Friend is a Vampire (The Lost Collection), Once Bitten / Vampire's Kiss (Totally Awesome 80s Double Feature), Teen Wolf & Teen Wolf Too double feature.
