This might be the sort of thing I'd envisioned in response earlier to the poster who remarked about his local Walmart having sent their TV shows on DVD back to the manufacturer. Wait...Cheers seasons 2/$19.96?! Did you get a sense of which seasons were involved/how many different 2-packs there were? First, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance Centennial Collection at $7.50, then Enterprise - Season 1 at $19.96 and now this. It's probably for the best that none of this stuff has shown up at my local store yet, or I'd have some serious 'splainin' to do to the wife!

I'm fairly certain I saw seasons 6/7, 8/9, 10/11 for the Cheers 2-packs. Found it a little odd that they were bundled like this (in "reverse") considering many of the 2-packs of other shows on the shelf included a season 1/2 combo.

What's more is that, as of a moment ago, the Walmart website only lists the first seven seasons, all website-only. This either portends an eventual re-issue (simpler packaging, or a complete series box) or CBS/Paramount are taking it out of print with no interest in doing anything further with the series. In any event, thanks for the alert. This is one of my all-time favorite series and I've yet to buy any of the DVD releases.

This happened at my Walmart too! On the 14th I saw the TV season 2 packs display (and I bought 1 of them (PM'd to Target)). A week before that I didn't see any 2 packs display at all. Now 5 days later (on the 19th) not only was the 2 packs display gone, but the fairly large TV series section that they have had for years (including a few endcaps with things like Seinfelds and Friends) was reduced to 2 tiny sections (the smallest shelving units they have)... 1 section for new TV releases and 1 section for "old" TV stuff (though anything more than a month old is considered "old" to Walmart) with many of the spaces empty. I asked about this and the lady (who has been there for years) said with glee that they were all sent back to the manufacturer. Those displays and endcaps were replaced mostly with $5 displays of stuff I've seen in the $5 bin. Too bad they had to send back good stuff to make room to highlight $5 bin junk. A year or two ago they took out all of the $7.50, $9, and whatever price point displays they had in the aisles because the new manager decided it looked too cluttered and people could hurt themselves and sue.

I guess 'll have to go to a further away Walmart to see if they are all as lame as my nearest one. This is just the latest step my local Walmart has made to go from what was once a DVD paradise about 5 years ago to a place where they carry so few DVDs that it's almost worthless for me to go into the electronics section any more. Sorry I made this into a "my nearest Walmart sucks" post, but I was just really disappointed what they did when I went in there yesterday.

Not sure if its been mentioned, but I noticed a new Dirty Harry box set today at Walmart. I think it's paried down from the previous box, as the back only indicates a bonus 6th disc and bonus features on each film (Does not detail the features). Its priced at $24.99, so not too bad.

You're welcome, but to give credit where it's due it was this post that got me looking for it to start with:

I had already picked up "Voyager" S1 a couple of weeks ago (before the "reset") based on prior posts. Both excellent deals.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

The Star Trek series DVDs never seem to go much below $mid-30s, so finding Voyager Season 1 for under $20 at the one decent WM on my circuit is a treat. Thanks for the tip. I'd forgotten that it was a short season, having debuted after New Year's. That may account for the low price. Hopefully the other seasons of Voyager, DS9 and STNG will descend to the $20 range as well at some point. I was tempted by the Cheers 2 for $20 deals (S7/8 & S9/10), too, but managed to resist.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Found a Sliders Seasons 3/4 double-pack for $19.96.

Looks like other retailers (Amazon, Deepdiscount) have a similar combo pack ... interesting, considering Season 4 by itself is close to $40 everywhere.

I'd still like to why the single disc, flipper crap Batman releases, mostly in snapper cases, stuck around for so long but the nice 2 disc editions went OOP fast and were selling at a premium last I checked. I don't understand the logic there. If it weren't for the BD releases, I'd really be pissed.

Not all Walmarts have the Enterprise Season 1 sets. I live in Flint Michigan with 3 Walmart stores and none of them have these Enterprise sets.

Not only has my store not stocked the Enterprise set, nor the Cheers 2-fers, nor The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance...but as of today, the 4-sided $5 shelf cube is gone entirely!

My walmarts DVD section is complete crap now. All they've got for a tv section is one tiny part with new releases. The rest of the place is 5-13 dollar dvds, thats it. I don't even bother going there now.

I went to 2 stores close to where I live in a large city and both had a terrible selection. I found one about 15 miles away in the burbs with a very nice selection. I bought Liberty Valance and a Blu-Ray that I didn't find at the others.

I have 4 WMs that I get to semi-regularly, and three of them are a usually a waste of time. One of them is pretty decent, though. And a fifth was refurbished recently and I'm planning a trip there; hope it's OK.

Mine didn't initially, either. They had Voyager - S1, and when I went back to pick that up today it was sold out, but, they gotten Enterprise - S1, so I bought that instead. Also finally found a copy of the 2 Disc Outsiders.

That's been my hope, too. If I can eventually pick up all of Voyager and Enterprise for $20 a pop, then I don't mind buying them. I already have all of DS9 and TNG, for which I paid over $100 a season for when they first came out many years ago, but it would be nice for the prices on all of these to come down to something more reasonable. $20 is the magic price point for a TV season in my book. I'll check out almost anything for that much or less.

Picked up the Director's Cut of "Cry Baby" last night for $5. Didn't see that mentioned on here before. They also had about 50 copies of widescreen "Speed Racer" with slipcover for $5.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

I went to five Wal-Mart's last night around the Fort Smith, Arkansas area (about 50 miles from corporate headquarters), only 1 store had the two packs of tv shows, none had Enterprise. 4 of the stores had done the refit and only had a small number of tv shows and HUGE number of $5.00 ones. I refused to buy a $5.00 dvd just on the principle of it.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

The Wal-Mart near me also greatly reduced their TV-DVD selection. By a lot. No more double packs, and not even a ton of new releases. Just a very random selection. I also noticed their DVD selection now mainly consists of titles that are mostly $5, $7.50, and $9. Their $13.00 and $14.96 selection has been reduced and basically the only DVDs that are still $19.96, $22.96 or $24.96 are the newer releases. There's another one by me that's a little farther away that I have yet to check.

On the principle of what? Being priced at $5.00? Or is your way of retaliating for their stripped-down refit?

Thats exactly how mine is. Not even worth going in there anymore. I was severely disappointed by it.
