At Costco in Yonkers, NY the slip cover was over the old studio classic single disc version.
Price was indeed $4.99

Ah. Thanks for the heads-up on AAE... I've removed the "new version" reference in case it's the same situation here.

Re: General Costco DVD Thread

My local Costco had the Warner Gangsters Vol. 1 box set in stock for $19.99. I haven't seen it in stock for a long time and that's an excellent price for anyone who doesn't have it yet.

There were also a bunch of Fox DVDs on sale for $7.99.

Beware that the discs on the $5 display are fullscreen. There are $5 widescreen copies (w/slipcovers) on the main DVD display.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is $5 off for both DVD and BD versions; $13.99 and $22.99, respectively. The BD is the Criterion for sure and I think the DVD is as well, but the pictured art on the web site is the non-Criterion.

The Jeeves & Wooster set is a mega, mega deal.

Great series and I believe my wife paid over $120 for the whole shebang years ago.

Re: General Costco DVD Thread

The Paul Newman Collection($20)

This 7-disc boxset includes the following movies:

Somebody Up There Likes Me
Rocky Graziano is building a career in crime, when he's finally caught and arrested. In jail, he is undisciplined, always getting into trouble. When he gets out after many years he has decided to start a new life. However, he is immediately drafted to the army. But they can't keep him and he goes AWOL. Rocky discovers boxing as a way of earning quick money, and is discovered as a new talent.

Harper
Paul Newman IS Harper, a cynical private eye in the best tradition of Bogart. He even has Bogie's Baby (Lauren Bacall) hiring him to find her missing husband, getting involved along the way with an assortment of unsavory characters and an illegal-alien smuggling ring.

The Drowning Pool
Harper is brought to Louisiana bayou country to investigate an attempted blackmail scheme. He soon finds out that it involves an old flame of his and her hellion of a daughter. What is more, he finds himself caught in a power struggle between the matriarch of the family and a greedy oil baron, who wants her property. Poor Harper! Things are not as straight-forward as they initially appeared.

The MacKintosh Man
Joseph Rearden takes the fall for a robbery and winds up in the Scrubs. From there he escapes in the company of a convicted spy and is taken to a remote manor at an unknown location where he is kept isolated. He overpowers his guard and flies, but nothing is quite what it seems in this drama of intrigue as Rearden pursues his quarry from Ireland to Malta.

The Left Handed Gun
William Bonney - Billy the Kid - gets a job with a cattleman known as 'The Englishman,' and is befriended by the peaceful, religious man. But when a crooked sheriff and his men murder the Englishman because he plans to supply the local Army fort with his beef, Billy decides to avenge the death by killing the four men responsible, throwing the lives of everyone around him - Tom and Charlie, two hands he worked with; Pat Garrett, who is about to be married; and the kindly Mexican couple who take him in when he's in trouble - into turmoil, and endangering the General Amnesty set up by Governor Wallace to bring peace to the New Mexico Territory.

The Young Philadelphians
Up and coming, young lawyer Anthony Lawrence faces several ethical and emotional dilemmas as he climbs the Philadelphia social ladder. His personal and professional skills are tested as he tries to balance the needs of his fiance Joan, the expectations of his colleagues and his own obligation to defend his friend Chester on a murder count.

Pocket Money
Two hard-luck modern cowboys may know cattle... but they sure can't recognize a bum steer. Newman teams with Lee Marvin and Cool Hand Luke's director in a sly, offbeat comedy.

Re: General Costco DVD Thread

Costco now has all three Pirates of the Caribbean Blue-rays for $16.99 each. Only the last two had slipcovers.

They also now carry the Ultimate Matrix Blu-ray collection, but its $84.99, so I'm hoping for a coupon in the next book.

Debating the Charlie Chan sets right now. Hoping to resist, as I have way too many unwatched DVDs, but I think I'd love these, and $19.99 per set seems like the best it will likely ever be.

I have the first Charlie Chan from the last time they were this price, but I haven't watched any yet. I plan to soon so I can see if it is worth getting anymore.

What I would easily recommend are the Mr. Moto's. While a few were a little questionable, I really enjoyed the majority. I'm a Peter Lorre fan so that probably helped. His character is really good from the perspective of using disguises and Judo, Also, he has the James Bond aspect of having no problem killing when warranted. He just doesn't obvioulsy get the women like Bond. If you have not seen a Mr. Moto I would recommend a try. At $17 a set they are well priced.

Yep, I already picked up both Moto sets. For me, $16.99 for classic sets is a no-brainer, but $19.99 I have to think about it. I know almost nothing of either series, probably have only seen clips of any of the Moto/Chan films and never one all the way thru, but am pretty sure I'll end up enjoying them all.

Edit to add: Found that I had previously purchased the first Chan set (Borders clearance). Watched the first film in it and loved it, so will likely buy the other 4 sets at Costco.
