Definitely, try it. I traded eleven copies of the Star Trek: TOS at my BBV in NJ for $88, no tax returned. They had problems with Volume 8, but was able to enter it manually.

Nope. As I posted a week or two ago (can't blame you for not reading 25 pages of posts), they're having some issues getting authorized to do the trade-ins. In many places, it's treated like pawning and retailers have to jump through some hoops with local authorities like submitting lists of items traded in so that they can be checked against theft reports.

Similar to the above, has anyone found any PA or Ohio stores that are rebating $8? I have not found any myself.

I traded in about 50 in Bolingbrook, IL. Got real friendly with the clerk so he credited the total amount, incl tax to my account. Then he transferred the whole amount, incl tax, to a value card. Plus he gave me an employee discount on a new Aladdin.

All in all, a good day. Got rid of my reefer madness, seven (original), die hards (originals), shakespeare in love, and a bunch of other crap that I was using to prop up a table. They also took a couple of my Tromas (from the 25 cent sale).

Now to find another prop.

When I traded in at my local BBV in Cary, IL last night, the manager stated that some woman had traded in 97 earlier in the day.

... as I mentioned in an earlier post to this thread, they did not seem up to date on the latest trade-in practices.

[B]Good news, tranq and other Tampanians. If you are willing to make a trip to Pasco County, the Blockbuster on Collier is participating [Bearss to Livingston, then left on Collier]. I don't think the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is going to let HC in on this promotion any time soon.

Thanks evitagen for the info. I will be heading up there tomorrow.

I wanted to confirm that I saw the 39 dvds that I traded a week and half ago in the store for sale...so they are putting them out.

I was wondering what most people's criteria for trading in movies are?

I have about 200 DVD movies in my collection and I want to cut down to about 125ish. I think when I originally bought the movies the least I ever paid were 10 dollars a movie. I don't really buy non-mainstream titles nor do I buy from the bargin bin.

There are some movies I haven't seen more than once since buying them but I feel that if I'm getting 8 dollars a movie back I might as well keep it since I'll be paying on average about 2 dollars to have them take a movie out of my collection.

I'm not looking to make a profit or anything or to get a 100% return (80% return is pretty good now that I think of it).

So what do you guys think? Do most of you who are trading in your old DVDs, is it because the movie is just plain bad ( Charlies' Angels 2, 2 Fast 2 Furious ). Are you trading in because its a good movie but you just never watch it ( Whale Rider, The Castle of Cagliostro, etc), or are you just getting rid of older copies of movies now that a better edition is coming out?

I'm also afraid that if I do end up trading in for credit, I'll end up buying more stuff that eventually I'll either never watch or think about trading again in the near feature.

My criteria is - do I really, really REALLY need this, or did I just get it because it was a good deal at the time, or an impulse buy or . . . well pretty much if I dont think I'll ever watch it again. I got too much GOOD stuff to worry about crap I'll never spin up again.

I went in today to see what they had put out recently and picked up Gummo and Project Greenlight for 20 bucks total.

Project Greenlight had a 29.99 tag on it, but the 2 for 20 still worked.

Look at it as a $2 rental and that you're getting $8 back of your upfront costs. If it's something you won't watch again, you're just cutting your loss.

Just dropped off the last of my trade ins - the last 7. I got rid of about 50 movies from my collection of about 150. Wow! Mostly all I have left is some action, Schwarzenneger, Hithcock, Indy, Star Wars, Alien, Bonds and a few of the great drama and sci fi.

Goodbye to a bunch of crap.

All of the above. Though I don't have that many DVDs anymore that I consider a bad movie (got rid of those earlier and now reduce the number of blind buys).
Most DVDs I traded because I think I won't have the desire to watch them within the next 10 years or so. And then there are the few that I can upgrade to a newer version for the same or less money at Columbia House (X-Men comes to mind).

I've been trading in DVDs that i'm not particularly interested in watching again, whether they be dissapointing blind buys, or films that i bought on impulse because they were cheap.

All of the above.
1) It was a blind buy that plain sucked to me (e.g. Spartan & Ali)
2) It was a movie that I bought during my early DVD buying days at Blockbuster and it's heavily scratched (since it has an MSRP of $14.95 I could buy it new probably for under $8).
3) It's a good movie but with little to no replay ability to me (e.g. The Cooler)
4) A few that I've upgraded but couldn't get close to $8 for the old version (e.g. The Great Escape) (I'm probably gonna trade in my Rocky movies as well)

Where specifically in South Jersey? I tried at my local stores --- in the Cherry Hill area and no luck.

I got a total of $56 in store credit after trading in 4 of my own and 3 pawn shop ($4 a piece just down the street) purchases. :-)

Anyway, I signed up for the BBV GamePASS and even though I already had it in Aug. but canceled I was still able to get the special introductory rate of $14.99 for the first month.

I also bought 2 previously played Xbox games. Rainbow Six 3 for $14.99 and Max Payne 2 $9.99. I got the Max Payne game for 50% off which makes it $5 and change.

When I arrived home I opened the Max Payne 2 case and found that someone had put a Platinum Hits Max Payne 1 disc in it. I immediately called the store to inform them and said I'd be there later to get a different title since that was the only MaxPayne2 copy they had. I browse their selection again and find Outlaw Golf for $14.99 so I figure I would owe them maybe $2 and change more than the original Max Payne 2 game seeing that it was more than $9.99. The manager allowed me to just switch the games since it was their fault. So basically I got a $14.99 at 66% off which is great.

One of the 3 clerks did find it suspicious that a different game was in the Max Payne 2 case although I wasn't directly accused of making the switch. All in all, everything turned out OK and the other clerk made sure to open the "new" game case to make sure I was getting Outlaw Golf.

This is interesting...I been having problems trying to trade certain Paramount titles. I think it is because Paramount uses multiple UPC's, as I can tell when typing a title on the DVD Spot site. Since they scan the barcode at my BB's and it doesn't come up, they won't accept it...even if they type the name in the computer and verifies that the titles are actually in the system, they won't accept them unless they scan...even with the obvious popular titles (The Italian Job 2003).

I found two locations on in Eastern Ohio that are doing the $8 trade in. They are Kent and Alliance. Both are less than an hour's drive from Youngstown, Oh.
