Where do you guys order for the best price for these? I usually order everything from Instock Trades but they don't do preorders, but they always have the best prices.

I saw Thriftbooks has the DC Vs. Marvel Omnibus for $96.78 which is the best price I have found so far.

Cool. Thank you. I always forget about them.

Funny that they have the DC Vs. Marvel series cover on the omnibus but that series is not included in that omnibus but rather in the Amalgam one. Wonder if that was done on purpose to confuse people and possibly sell a few more on both versions?

What a ripoff, what about this Marvel/DC collaboration?

But seriously, that omnibus is pretty cool, I bought the Batman vs. The Hulk and X-Men vs. New Teen Titans ones when I was a kid, I thought the Marvel/DC teamups/battles were fun stuff.

I loved them as a kid too.

I would give anything for a Marvel Super Special Omnibus but I know that will never ever happen due to al the rights entailed.

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

Oh, a Super Special omnibus would be great, but yeah, will never happen as it would be a rights nightmare. I know that the two KISS Super Specials were reprinted in a book along with other KISS comics (I haven't bought it, I still have my beat up original issues of those).

I bought that Galactica adaptation, but I had the magazine sized version, for some reason Marvel published it both in treasury size and magazine size, I don't recall seeing that with the other Super Specials. I remember the Overstreet Price Guide said that the magazine version is rarer, but mine is in well read, bad shape at this point, so it ain't worth shit.

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

I was reading the list of issues for the Amalgam Omnibus.

Any thoughts from those here on the stories and artwork in it? A lot of that stuff included I have never read. Looks interesting but if it was anything like the "Just Imagine Stan Lee Creating The DC Universe" omnibus, I would definitely pass.

That was a read once and never read again book for me.

Yeah, that would be a cool thing to do, but I suspect that since almost of the Marvel Super Specials were licensed properties, herding all of those cats would be impossible. You're looking at Star Trek, Star Wars, James Bond, Battlestar Galactica, KISS, the Beatles, Indiana Jones, Blade Runner, CE3K... basically all of the major movie studios. I think that at least one would probably object to being included in a book with material from a competitor. Not to mention that the rights to those properties currently are spread out among other comic book companies.

General consensus is the Amalgam stories aren't that good. Many are skipping the Amalgam omnibus for the Marvel vs DC omnibus.

I have most of the Amalgam comics so that omnibus isn't a huge priority for me. I do remember the artwork being pretty good in that glossy '90s way.

Had this one as a kid and being so young, the panel where he punches through Man-Thing always grossed me out.

Nice John Byrne art in that one (including that cover).

Always enjoyed Marvel Team Up, Marvel Two In One, Brave and the Bold, JLA issues with JSA. Really liked the team up stories and character crossovers. Made it even better when we started getting DC and Marvel crossovers.

My memories are that several of the amalgamations were inspired, and the cameo-spotting and in-jokes were very enjoyable. The trading cards, letters pages and footnotes really leant into the conceit of it being a decades-old combined universe, and I thought that was both witty, fun and entertaining.

I remember little of the actual stories, but I don't recall them being bad. One of my friends recently said it was aimed more at fanboys than fans. I think that's a little confusing, patronizing and dismissive, but it's one opinion.
