Re: Comic Conventions

Brian beat me to the punch, but I am also going to point out how it is awesome to see Soleil looking so happy in your photo with her. If only every convention special guest looked half as happy to be taking a pick with a con attendee as Punky Brewster does. Djariya, your photos put a smile on my face as I grew up watching Punky Brewster.

I also grew up watching Hunter when it first aired and have even done a rewatch of most of the first season (the show is still very intense at times and still rather entertaining). Super neat that you got to meet Hunter and Dee Dee McCall.

Re: Comic Conventions

Damn, that is crazy how elderly Fred Dryer looks. I watched the shit out of Hunter when I was a kid and always thought he looked like he could kick anyone's ass he wanted to. He seemed like the ultimate tough guy but still an everyman on that show. But I don't think I have watched one episode of it since I was a kid.

I have no idea who that first girl is in your pix.

Re: Comic Conventions

His health has obviously worsened within the last 5 years. Right before COVID he was still spry and a smartass here and there. He even had a small role as a law enforcement officer in Bumblebee.

Eva Larue was in 153 episodes of CSI Miami and over 200 episodes of All my Children most notably.

I knew her from CSi Miami.

Ah. No wonder. I have never seen either show.

The CalComicCon is Jan 31st-Feb1st. It's a smaller comic book-based con, for those still into comic books.

Info is here

Elijah Wood is coming to Planet comicon in March. That autograph line will stretch to Kansas.

Re: Comic Conventions

Creep IE Con is next weekend and after some minor hesitation, I gave in and decided to get the photo op with Freddy Krueger himself Robert Englund. His photo ops were about 85% sold out. He’s a horror icon and I probably won’t get many more opportunities to do this. He will have the glove available.

Probably won’t be able to get his autograph though. Already planning to get Kiefer and Skeet and I need money for the actual Con.

So I have photos slated with

Kiefer Sutherland
Skeet Ulrich
Emily Kinney
and now Englund

Re: Comic Conventions

After Kiefer's arrest and court date, I thought he would cancel. Good to see he hasn't cancelled. Good for the fans.

Awesome! Looking forward to a more detailed story of the day, especially the Kiefer meeting.

Also met Lee Waddell, who was the costumed actor as Ghostface in Scream 1 and 2. Got his autograph late when the Con was winding down. He was kind and took the time to chat with me.

Some of my haul from yesterday

These horror T shirts were awesome. The Fangoria was free to the first 3000 attendees.

Re: Comic Conventions

Did Kiefer Sutherland sign autographs? I was watching youtube videos of the convention and didn't realize they only handed out limited tickets for autographs (for Robert Englund). Was it the same for other celebrities?

When I was there on Saturday they had a limited number of autograph tickets for Kiefer and Englund. That’s the only ones I was aware of. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get either autograph, but as you see, I got the photo op and that to me was more important to me. Christopher Lloyd had a crazy line, so he might have been capped as well.

Kiefer was only there Friday and Saturday and I talked to someone who got his autograph Friday and she said that his line was about 2 hours. But, Kiefer made the effort to interact and talk to everyone who sought his autograph. She said he was very professional and friendly. It wasn’t an assembly line of sign and go.

When I quickly met him for the photo op, he smiled and said hello and said thank you for coming.

Re: Comic Conventions

Kiefer did 3 solo photo op sessions on Saturday. I was in group 1. He also did multiple group reunion photo ops with a few cast members of Young Guns and then Lost Boys. Dermot Mulroney and Lou Diamond Phillips for Young Guns and he was with Jason Patric, Alex Winter and Billy Wirth for Lost Boys.

Englund was incredibly popular Saturday and made a killing with the photos. He did 9 solo sessions. I was in group 7. And he did multiple group reunion photo ops with various cast members from some of the Nightmare on Elm street sequels. This was only Saturday. He was there all 3 days.

Re: Comic Conventions

DJariya, you may have answered this question before, but do you ask them or have to ask if you can put your arm around them or on their shoulder? Or is there a sign or a handler telling you what you can and can't do?

Just curious because I know I wouldn't want a bunch of strangers touching me on my shoulder, but I barely want my family to touch me. They may be used to it and not think a thing about it.

No, you don’t have to ask and the talent usually initiates contact to make it a good picture. There are also markers on the floor to help make it a good photo. But you can pose however you want and if you prefer not to touch them, that’s also fine. . Yeah I think most are used to it. The talent are paid to be there and absolutely want to make the fans happy. There are a select few who you can kind of feel don’t want to be touched like William Shatner who is 94 and usually sits in a chair. I met him when Covid was still a thing and we had a plastic divider between us. I’ve seen photos of him with fans after Covid and he just sits and fans just stand next to him.

Glad you were happy with the results. I'm the opposite. I would have been disappointed, only because I want to add Kiefer's autograph to my 24 autograph collection (an in-person autograph, not purchased online). But after watching the vlogs, I understand the need for limited tickets based on the popularity.

If I didn't have a cruise vacation the week prior, I would have probably traveled to the convention. And then be disappointed if I didn't get an autograph.

I don’t buy autographs online. I only made a few exceptions. I bought Erica Durance from Smallvile and Bridgitte Kali Canales from SWAT because they did it on Instagram live and I saw them do it. And I wasn’t sure if I would ever meet them in person. About a year or so later, I actually met Erica in person last May and had her sign my Blu-ray set in person. So now I have a photo and Blu-ray signed.

Re: Comic Conventions

Speaking of autographs and photos, tennis legend John McEnroe telling this kid to fuck off while harassing him at the Melbourne airport. Frankly I don’t blame him for being pissed. The kid was hounding him. But, McEnroe has been long known to being a dick.
