Holy crap! Daredevil by Brubaker rules! Just read the lastest issue. Great stuff. And with Fisk, Bullseye, and Punisher all coming out to play, the next issue or two are going to be fantastic!

Yes, DD is a fantastic read. The end of the Bendis run was a little weak considering how strong it was for years.

My overall review of Infinite Crisis SPOILERS AHOY!!!

It's bad to judge a series like this before it's finished. But looking at the series as a whole, as well as the numerous tie-ins, I find myself less than satisfied. It was a bold move by DC to bring these characters back as if to pretend that they never disappeared; but at the same time the awkward continuity set forth by the Superman books in the last 5 years has really put a damper on Superman's own history. Regardless, what is presented is less than accessible although still enjoyable by the average reader. They needn't pick up every single crossover book to understand what they're seeing but they can still enjoy some fun superheroics in the main series.

Regarding the art, that was the most painful of my complaints. The first issue stands out by far with the strongest art, with Jiminez tapping his Perez roots but at the same time touching upon the grander scales set forth by Brian Hitch without losing his attention to detail and his ability to distinguish between characters. Gradually, though, the series declines and the final issue is the most disappointing. The two page montage of heroes fighting in Metropolis was weak and looked half done, and the final two page spread of heroes was a mockery.

The plotting unfortunately loses it's ground just as quickly. The first few issues set up a great story and tight storytelling keeps it together despite being all over the place at times. The solid narration from Superman in the first issue keeps the storyline going with a single theme permeating his observations. It was really John's best side he was showing. The last few issues, however, gradually spin out of control and often hurtle into strange directions at the same time. Power Girl's absence in the later issues despite her subtle importance in the set up really weakened the ending and the overall story for me. Seeing the two Supermen go at it really reminded me of Silver Age Marvel books and having two heroes punch each other has gotten really really really old.

And at the end, we have so many deaths, so many disasters, so many things to mourn, that they're still not done shocking us and give us a meaningless death of a character we haven't had time to grow attached to - or even despise - for no other reason than to show that it's possible. And for some reason, seeing what happens to Superboy Prime just isn't satisfying enough. It's supposed to be almost ironic, but we know that it's not going to end there.

Considering how much New Frontier kicked ass, it's sure to be a hit. Cooke at his best.

HELLS YES! I held off buying the trades for New Frontier in hopes of proper treatment. Glad the wait is going to pay off.

Also this new Superman...is awesome! I just read the last two issues and I cannot get enough. "Up, Up, and Away" and "Face the Face" really have been super solid Superman and Batman tales. Makes me anxious to see what they do with Wonder Woman. Can they make me care about that characters solo title?

Rucka's WW run was rather sub-par and Jimenez before that was just boring. I'm really looking forward to being able to read Wonder Woman again.

I read a lot of DC and Marvel as a kid in the late 70's, and, I just recently got back into comics after a brief 25 year absence .

I'm really enjoying the current Daredevil and Superman stories, Jonah Hex is fantastic, Civil War and Annihilation are quite absorbing, and I picked up the first issue of "52" and I had no friggin' idea who those characters were or what the hell was going on! I think I'm going to pass on that story line.

But I do really like the new Aquaman arc. I just love that artwork.

Anyone read the "Infinite Crisis: Secret Origins" book? It does give a certain amount of backstory behind Alex Luthor and Superboy-Prime's actions before the IC, but it's more of a read than a buy.

Every OYL book I've read has been terrible, I hate the direction the DCU is going, and IC fell completely apart at the end. Despite all that, I loved 52 #1. Maybe I'm just a sucker for a good gimick and 52 has like 4 gimmicks going for it. Maybe my expectations were lowered by what I said previosly, but I was pretty impressed with the first issue. I did have a problem with the climax though. It seems like the biggest reveal of the issue was the abscence of the trinity, but that was also supposed to be a big revelation of the final issue of IC. It was also supposed to be a big reveal of some of the OYL books and of course it wasn't really a reveal in any of the cases considering everybody already knew something like that was going to happen. Also, it almost seems pointless for Booster to lose Skeets so soon after he got him back.

<n>nny have you read more than the first issue of the Batman and Superman OYL books? I found the first two issues of the Batman story to be pretty lackluster, but it picked up quickly from there. Superman I liked from the jump but the story gets better as it goes along. However, different strokes and all that right?

The first issue of 52 was pretty good. I hate Booster Gold (for no real reason, but I do), but Steel, Renee, and The Question (especially Question) are a good group of folks to follow for a year. I'm curious to see how 52# is going to address the Trinity missing storyline. We know, for the most part, whats going on with them so there isn't a ton of mystery there. I'm actually surprised that there isn't going to be a
Spoiler:
12 part mini following Bruce, Dick, and Tim on there journey of re-training. I would like to see how they reform their bond. Maybe this will be in 52?

While I like the Superman UP, UP, AND AWAY arc, I must admit that the Action Comics issues haven't been as good as the Superman issues. Odd, I know, but they seem to lack something. I can't quite put my finger on it.

Hey, how'd you know? The first issue of each of those stories and the first issue of Aquaman and Outsiders are the only ones I've read so far. I'll try some more OYL comics eventually, but I can't decide if I should take a little break from DC for now. Of course I'll still read the stuff I'm really interested in like 52, Meltzer's JL, and Heinberg's WW. I think Manhunter's going to be cancelled soon, so I'll probably finish that up too.

For the few that care, "The Thing" has been cancelled. The last issue will be #8, the poker issue.

Damn, I wish they could have found a way to do the Thing bi-monthly or something.

Just looked at the DC Solicits. Excited about the 2nd Matt Wagner Batman mini-series The Mad Monk. Not too excited about stuff like The Creeper or The Atom. I will probably check out Martian Manhunter and Trials Of Shazam. Nice to see Steve Englehart has a couple more issues of JSA Classified.

I also have to resist the urge to order hardcovers of Infinite Crisis and Justice (measly #s 1-4) that month because we all know what will come out sooner or later. I'd lay odds they will be 50% off at our favorite online store.

Shhhhhhh . . .

Absolute New Frontier is 12.99 at Amazon right now. Probably won't be honored, but I ordered one. October 4th release date.

Wow, 82% off. Impressive. Do they let you know when/if they cancel an order, or will they just charge you cover price?

I think that I have read in past DVD threads they have done both. And also they have honored some prices when people called. That was a few years ago though.
