The Magicians isn't R rated material by any means. It aired on SyFy on TV. It's probably a PG-13 equivalent series.

There are some highly sexual scenes in it.
Spoiler:
There's orgies and threesomes in it. They don't show much nudity, but it's shown and simulated. I just wanted story to be aware.

If you're keeping an eye on your daughter's media consumption, the show has quite mature themes and content I wouldn't recommend to teenagers under 16 at a minimum. Several storylines are built around drug and sex allegories, not to mention one nasty recurring sub-plot about child abuse.

Hmm, thanks all. This may go a bit too mature for her to do on her own for now.

You think you won't be that cliché parent who doesn't mind the kid watching violent movies but hold back on sexual content. But then you realize the chances of your kid getting the wrong ideas about sex from a movie or book vs. the chances they'll become best friends with Psycho Goreman are pretty high, so you skew toward that.

I wish I would have paid more attention to this thread when The Magicians was on sale. Sounds interesting.

You all got me curious about this one. It's Streaming on CW & Tubi & I'm binging. Made it through the first 4 so far. IMO, I would try to limit viewing by those under 17 or 18. BUT NOT because of sex (there is very little & I don't feel exposure to CONSENSUAL sex is harmful to teens), but because this is really creepy & likely requires a certain maturity level to cope with it. Depends on the given teen, I'd say.

I would have purchased it at $30 if I'd thought about it.

Re: Amazon: Blu-ray discounts and deals mega-thread

Did anyone else order the Magicians box set?

My Magicians box set arrived and about ten discs were off the hub. I'm probably going to send it back. The design to hold the discs is atrocious. I'm going to check the discs with a light and microfiber cloth in the morning. I'm too aggravated to do it tonight.

I also ordered a Blu-ray of the Max Fleischer Superman shorts and the disc has some kind of film on it. I ordered a video game and it was off the hub. The disc somehow wasn't scratched at all. Not my best Prime day order. It didn't help that I chose the slow Prime shipping to get $7 in credits and they packed movies in with hardcover books and an engine air filter for my car. There was very little bubble wrap or paper filling to keep things from moving around.

I have had rotten luck using the delayed or slower Prime shipping when given the option. Generally I avoid it.

I’m sending the box set back. Two discs were scratched and it’s a horribly constructed set. It’s very hard to get the discs in and out.

Depending on where you live and what coupons you get, some Criterons are at 19.99 and you can stack a coupon on top of that.

Where are you finding coupons for blu's on Amazon? Do you mean the coupon button on some listings? I've found the green button discounts always stack.

subject to regional coupons…those 30%, 25%, 20% coupons don’t apply for everyone across the spectrum. It’s based on regional location of the shipped destination - applies both to coupons and list prices

I am in SoCal, I do see a 30% coupon, however my pre-coupon price is $39.24

Price went back to normal since the BN sale ended.

The BD is still priced at 19.99 and has the 30% coupon attached

If you want to try before you buy, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot is streaming for free if you're an Amazon Prime member.

Amazon is matching B&N's 50% Off Arrow Video sale, and depending on where you live, there may even be coupons on top of those sale prices.

Re: Amazon: Blu-ray discounts and deals mega-thread

Thanks for the heads up.

I got 4 titles I was looking to get from KL on 4K

Kindergarten Cop

To Live and Die in LA

Internal Affairs

Escape from Alcatraz

Each was about a dollar or two cheaper than the recent KL sale.

Are you sure that's not *Amazon* matching GRUV? That seems to be the normal PM.

Amazon is also PMing Target's B2G1 free sale on select movies. Not sure if they're PMing CDs.

Which came first the chicken or the egg? The deals I posted are marked as October Prime deals. The 3 for 2 is not.
On the other hand GRUV's prices were marked down the first time I looked shortly after the sale began at Amazon.
I didn't think GRUV was open all night except maybe at the end of the year. Bottom line what difference does it make.
Some people prefer not to shop at one place or the other and it is nice that there is a choice, Some may still get GRUV's 20% off coupon, SIGNUP20 to work and save even more.

Some CDs are part of Amazon's sale. It's highly hit or miss however.
