Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
Looks like Amazon is running a sale on a number of Shout Factory Collector's Editions. Many are currently $12.99.
|
Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
Tales From The Crypt: Bordello Of Blood and Demon Knight are both $13.99. I finally picked them both up.
|
Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
Gonna scoop up a few of those SF titles.
|
Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
You do have to pay attention to the prices on the Shout discs. On some of them, the default price is $29 or thereabouts, and you have to look at all the options to get the sale price.

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
Tempted on a few of those Scream Factory titles. I have a lot of the ones I really want but there are a few that I might blind buy.
|
Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
Link to the shout titles:
http://www.amazon.com/b/ref=amb_link...de=12544755011 Got five that I've held out on for ages. Even Shout hasn't matched many of these prices during their own sales. I do have records of picking up some titles in a similar sale last year, at similar prices, so perhaps this is an annual thing now? |
Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
Aargh, could you fix/shorten that link please? Screws up the forum on some OSs.

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
Decided to get some of the Scream Factory titles. Had a $5 credit on my account plus $12 and change in rewards points from my Amazon Visa so got one for free basically. Decided to pick up Cat People, Day of the Dead, Motel Hell, and Shocker. Tempted to get a few more given how cheap they are at the moment.

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
I got:
The Burning Motel Hell Shocker Already have many of the SF titles I want. Was hoping Ghost Story was on sale but it is not. |

Ordered a few of those $12.99 Scream titles. Holding out hope that a least a couple have slipcovers after all this time.

Mike86, this is not directly just to you, but to the many posters that have posted something similar to yours. The reason that you got a Amazon Visa (hopefully) was to leverage the points on Amazon purchases. That's because they give more points for an Amazon purchase (versus gas, restaurant, grocery etc.) as an incentive to spend money on their site. So, when you use reward points on Amazon purchases, you're shooting yourself in the foot. Rather than getting triple points, you're getting el zippo in points. Instead, use your Amazon Visa for all your Amazon purchases and use your points elsewhere for things like airline miles, et cetera. I take mine in cash after a helpful poster clued me into that option years ago. As to this notion of "free," that's just some b.s. marketing notion. Let's take an example. If you got a $50,000 gift from your Aunt, would you go around telling people that everything that you purchased with that money was "free?" Sure, you could rationalize that it was free because of the gift, but it would be no more than that, a rationalization. Why? Because once that gift is now your asset, the only thing that really matters is how you leverage that asset. So, any purchase (including DVDs) becomes one of deciding whether the perceived benefit of buying the item is worth the cost. Period. Amazon points, credits, gift cards ... can be used on so many products that it becomes de facto cash. So, when you use them, that's what they are. Cash. Brian T, Thanks for the link. I picked up The Fog. |

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
I checked last night and several of those titles are sold out, including Night of the Comet and Escape from NY.
I know I can still order it and get the same price, but I'm trying to resist since I'm going on vacation in a few weeks and want to save my money for that. |
Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
I ordered Night of the Comet. I've had that on my wish list for a while, waiting for it to drop in price.
|
Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
Amazon just canceled my Chungking Express order. Was worth a shot, though.

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
So I ended up picking up Escape from NY, Cat People and Night of the Comet.
However, I did a little research and learned the new Shout factory Cat People BD is missing all the extras from the previous Universal DVD. These are the key missing extras: Cat People: An Intimate Portrait Feature Commentary with Director Paul Schrader On the Set with the Director Paul Schrader Special Makeup Effects by Tom Burman Cat People Matte Paintings Filmmaker Robert Wise on the Producer of the Original Cat People, Val Lewton |
Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
I still have my Cat People HD DVD and was thinking of switching to Blu, but maybe not. It's not like I watch it all that often anyway.
