Yeah, as I said, I finally lost :lol: I was trying not to buy one but did the invitations and preorder to still have the chance to get one, but I could always back out.

It was mostly that I didn't think overall I'd be into as many games to justify the purchase but so far Mario Kart World and Bananza have Assist Mode and I finally decided, darn it, Imma get good at games and not just give up first time I don't pass. But I'll think I'll find enough games to justify the hardware, which was my only concern (I'm not into consoles, I'm a PC gamer).

Oh, and the nail on the coffin was I was browsing Youtube and it recommended a Mario Kart World video and I saw it and that was that, it looks like a tremendous amount of fun, both single player and online matches.

I'm not a Mario Kart expert by any means. Only reason I have World is because it was the bundle I had access to buy first. That being said, a lot of Kart lifers I've spoken to have said that it's not as good as 8 on Switch 1, overall.

I own the Switch one and in five years have put less than 10 hours into MK8D. I use it mostly for picross. Back then the PC wasn't giving out good picross games but that has changed and now it rivals the Switch.

I hate platformers and I guess that's what Bananza is.

I mostly don't enjoy Nintendo games.... Pikmin, Zelda, Smash Bros, Kirby, etc. I have Sonic Crossworlds on preorder (Sept 2025) and I still play speedstorm 26 months later every day. So maybe just hold out 3 more months until Crossworlds comes out.

What I dislike about consoles is that there's a hardware entry point. I like to get an hour of gameplay per dollar spent. We already own a PC that we use for everything so it's just the cost of the software. I have a Legion Go so I can play all Windows games on the go. Literally the only games I can't play are Switch-only games. That's it. And that's mostly Nintendo first party games because third party tend to be released on the PC.

I'd have to put in 500 hours on Mario Kart World to get my money's worth. That's 15 minutes a day every day for 8 years.

Have you tried Mario Odyssey? DK is made by the same team and will basically be a spiritual successor. If you don't like MO, I can't imagine you would enjoy DK when it comes out.

Hated it. Tried to get into it many many many times with assist mode on. Gave up after five minutes. Hate the boss battles where you have to deal with minions then go for the boss at a specific time.

My local library has over 400 Switch games, 99% of them without a wait time. Whenever I get the itch to get the S2 I'll just check out a game :lol:

I can't imagine anyone hating Mario Odyssey. That was the sort of game I just love. But as they say, different strokes for different folks.
I'm sure you are okay waiting for now Deb. As for me, just a week until I get to play DK Bananza!!!! :banana:

Game vouchers will be discontinued after January 30, but at least you’ve still got 6 months and change to use ‘em!

I think this was known information, but I just saw it resurface on social media, so…errr, maybe just consider this a reminder. :)

Correction: You still have six months to BUY them. They can still be used for 12 months after purchase. So if you bought two on Jan 30, 2026 you could wait until Jan of 2027 to use them.
But since they aren't valid for Switch 2 exclusive games, there probably isn't anything new after Metroid Prime 4 that you could use them on.

$100 eShop credit for $85 @ New Egg. Rare deal better than Costco's usual discount. Good for buying vouchers if you need two.

Thanks for sharing. I bit. I already have $30 in eShop credit I received as a gift and was going to use it toward Bananza, so for me it was like spending an extra $45 to get $60, though I have no idea what I'll use it on. The only Switch 2 game on the horizon that I want is MP4, and my Best Buy preorder from January 2020 seems to still be holding.

Why is speedstorm so much more fun on this thing than the pc or my windows handheld?

Well I wasn't sure if I was going to keep it or not but after putting in over 8 hours this weekend alone on Mario Kart World, it's a keeper. I'll just get first party titles for it and any picross not available on PC. This Thursday Bananza, then next week Thursday Jamboree, and Kirby Air Riders are the ones I'm getting for sure.

I was surprised that I've actually played around all modes, both solo and online. In five years of owning Mario Kart 8 Deluxe I played it less than I played MKW this weekend. I never ended races in MKD8 because it was so boring, but I'm doing courses over and over and over again. I love EVERYthing about it.

I like to have the TV in the background while I do the map and just chill. I like to just get on a highway and drive around and then go off the beaten path if I see something interesting. I like to use the bowser kart with different characters because it's my offroad vehicle :lol: My favorite part so far is gathering different outfits.

Grabbed $200 eshop credit for $180 which will cover the three games I'm going to get and got Mario Party Jamboree for Switch 1 and the upgrade pack and Bananza ready to go on release date. Fired up Mario Party Jamboree and I think I will spend a lot of time in that game. Trying all the mini-games first one at a time.

Most of the naysayers haven't even played MKW yet. There are definitely some downsides to MKW, like the intermission routes to your final destination. I'm really not a fan of that. Give me three laps on the course itself. But a lot of what the naysayers were complaining about; you're just going to grind all the time, grinding and tricking has taken all the skill out of MK, it's way too easy. Are all completely wrong. Grinding and wall jumping are incredibly technical to do and the shortcuts you can take are extremely skill based. The skill depth of MKW are just unbelievable. This game will have even better longevity than MK8. World records will constantly be beaten years from now as people find more and more ways to shave off time. I still love MK8 but MKW is certainly a worthy successor.

If you really want to think of it that way spread the cost of the system and accessories across all the hours you spend on it. That should help with your cost calculation. No need to put in 500 hours in MKW
