Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

I bought that via the Kickstarter, but barely used it. Ergonomically it doesn't work well and feels top-heavy and lopsided. Not comfortable to hold. Being able to just stand the screen vertically is much better. Plus having the wide separation of the left and right hands, for me, is ideal. My son gets so mad  when I press both flipper buttons together, as I have a hard time having my brain tell only one specific hand to reflexively press the flipper button. I find it's a lot easier with the hands spaced apart.

Also the Pinball FX tables look better on a Switch 2. Definitely sharper visuals.

Will they make a switch 2 flip grip? I'm not even sure they made one for the OLED...

And Bloomberg just reported on why Nintendo dropped off amazon.com:

Nintendo Co. pulled its products from Amazon.com Inc.'s US site after a disagreement over unauthorized sales, meaning the e-commerce company missed out on the recent debut of Nintendo's Switch 2 — the biggest game console launch of all time.

The Japanese company stopped selling on Amazon after noticing that third-party merchants were offering games for sale in the US at prices that undercut Nintendo's advertised rates, according to a person familiar with the situation. Enterprising sellers were buying Nintendo products in bulk in Southeast Asia and exporting them to the US, said the person, who requested anonymity to discuss confidential information.

Amazon tried to assuage Nintendo by offering to attach labels to products that guarantee they're authentic. Amazon uses the technique to assure shoppers products aren't counterfeits and to help it track merchandise. But the offer wasn't sufficient, the person said, and Nintendo ultimately opted to pull its products from Amazon in the US.

And although I missed it due to the paywall, but Amazon and Nintendo both deny the reporting but don't provide any further explanation.

"There is no such fact. We do not disclose details of negotiations or contracts with retailers," a Nintendo spokesperson said in an e-mailed response, declining to elaborate further.

An Amazon spokesperson said "the claims made by Bloomberg regarding our relationship with Nintendo are inaccurate" but declined to specify how. "Amazon is pleased to offer Nintendo products directly to our customers as part of our commitment to providing an exceptional shopping experience with the widest selection possible," the spokesperson said.

I just got the Nintendo invitation to purchase a Switch 2.

I have until July 4th at 3:00pm to decide.

It’s got me thinking… 🤔

I hope this is the future of new console releases -- enough availability for everyone who wants one to get one in the first month or so.

Goldberg74 07-02-25 04:37 PM

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

Agreed. Those who want one should be able to get one.

I’ll get one eventually. I just don’t need it “right now.”

They have before. Going from the Wii. I had a couple of cards of Wii points that just vanished in value. Plus the fact that they shut down the virtual console in between consoles and they have a penchant for making you rebuy old games/subscribe to their service and I don't really trust them with digital games. Not fully anyways. It's always in the back of my mind anyways. How many generations can you go back on the PS and XBox compared to Nintendo? Let alone Steam.

Amazon however, they just continually screw people over to extract every single red cent out of their customers AND their business partners. So screw them.

Well, let's find out...

The Nintendo GameCube had about 653 officially released games worldwide. Of those:
-
  • Roughly 80–90 titles were first-party, meaning they were developed and published by Nintendo or its wholly owned studios.
  • The remaining 560+ games (over 85%) were third-party or second-party, not owned by Nintendo.
-
So, approximately 560–570 GameCube games were not owned by Nintendo.
-
Note: Some second-party games (from companies like Rare or Intelligent Systems) may be contracted exclusively to Nintendo but not fully owned, so the exact count can shift depending on how you define "owned."
-
Let me know if you'd like a list of notable non-Nintendo GameCube titles or a breakdown by publisher.
Thanks ChatGPT.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

thanks Goldberg. i guess 80-90 is better than nothing (not that they'll all get emulated).

Thanks ChatGPT.

Interestingly, looking at Wikipedia, they list 651 Gamecube games, and only 66 of those were where Nintendo was the primary publisher, an an additional 4 Pokemon games, so probably 70 or less could be considered "first party" titles.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_GameCube_games

So ChatGPT's response appears to be a bit off.

Since it's a paid service, especially since it's tied to the expansion pack, it's possible. There are plenty of third party games in the Nintendo classics collection including Capcom games so it's certainly possible if not likely.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

I ended up getting a switch 2 last weekend. I went to the Nintendo Store in SF with my family. They had one Switch 2 package with Mario Kart World left (was around 3 or 4 in the afternoon) so I accepted fate and bought it. They give you a wrist band and have you fill out a form for which accessories/games you want to buy. I only got the system. My current Switch (1) was the launch model so I was due for an upgrade. I almost threw the new switch through the window after the problems dealing with transferring data from my old switch; my nintendo accounts were out of date or something. All is good now!

You can now buy a Switch 2 on Amazon (at regular prices). Just in case you were someone who, I don't know, maybe had thousands of dollars in Amazon credit sitting around.

Man, that was such a minor, good-natured joke. One that didn't even reference you specifically.
If that's all it takes to get you upset -- even after you post huge pictures of your own personal horde of gift cards for no discernable reason whatsoever -- then maybe you are being a bit too thin skinned?

Unless you want to start going to stores to find one locally, waiting for one of those invites to come through is your best bet right now.

Or stalk Wario64 for a Walmart restock.

I have no idea. I got mine through Nintendo invite. I haven't been keeping up with which stores are seeing stock come in.

As I said above, you can try to get one through Amazon. You have to request an invite. Walmart has been getting some for Walmart + members. Best Buy has had a few restocks.
But you might not get one for a while as they have been popular and selling well.

I guess I'll try coldcalling Best Buy, Walmart, Target, Gamestop, Costco, and Sams's Club. And then hope it doesn't sell out by the time I get there..

It's not guaranteed and the Nintendo one (which I did 2 weeks ago) could take a while.

I'm a Walmart+ member, how do I leverage getting one like that?

Oh I wanted one from day one but have talked myself from buying so far and I finally lost  There's a threat of less being made in the future with tariffs and the threat of price going up with tariffs so I realized I can't just wait if I don't want to end up paying $650 for one. I actually was up and reading this thread on preorder night and I was unable to get one, was trying Best Buy, Target, Walmart, all the biggies.
