Thinking about keeping our Switch docked and use just for the retro games, keeping the NES (and eventually others) controllers paired to that one. Since there won't be any improvements to those on Switch2.

Was able to order one of those Walmart 512 cards just now, so hopefully they are better quality than normal WalMart brand stuff.

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

I was thinking of just keeping them both hooked up and just keep all my Switch 1 stuff, sans the enhanced editions (BotW, TotK), and play both systems. At least this way I can keep 2 games going, 1 on each system. I mean the way I set up my center there is room for one more console. And would fit in with ease. Already planned ahead of what accessories I would need for my set up (extender cables and such) and it would be a breeze to set one more up considering I have a 7 HDMI switcher that switches automatically. I think only 5 are being used right now and it would be easy to put in a sixth.

Does that make sense or is it foolhardy?

I got one of those GameCube controllers from Nintendo Store. Not sure why but never used one and since it is wireless now, I thought it might bring back the nostalgia factor when I owned and loved my GameCube with Wavebird controller.

N64 Games available through Nintendo Online Expansion packs will have a rewind option on the Switch 2!

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

There are a bunch of Switch 2s out in 'the wild' now, but they're just paperweights until 6/5 because they require a Day 1 patch to do literally anything.

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

I don't think it's totally crazy keeping Switch 1 hooked up considering there are some backwards compatibility issues with some games, I just read.

If you transfer saves and stuff from one console to another, do the saves still remain on the original console like when transferring between Switch 1 & 2?

Did you just read that... on this thread, because it was mentioned several times here. ;)

I would expect, but don't know for sure, that if you have Nintendo online the cloud saves work the same, ie: can be downloaded on any console the game is installed on. The trick are the odd games like Animal Crossing (and I think Yugioh) which require a transfer.

I'll also add that, unless you want the trade in value, there is always a use for the "old" switch, if only to reduce wear and tear on your switch 2 and not have to take up precious space with games that work the same on switch 1. Especially if there are other people in your household who game and/or you play portable.

The Xbox Series X/S controllers are the only one I can think of recently. Those are compatible with Series One. They’re also relatively cheap and didn’t seem to have any real upgrades, so it makes some sense.

I read yesterday that some retailers are cancelling preorders without any notification to customers. They say to check your preorder and make sure it is still active.

Some Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Orders Already Canceled by Retailers

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

That article was from a little over a month ago, when preorders first started going live. I know canceled orders were a bit of a headache in the immediate aftermath of preordering, but I haven't heard many (any?) stories at this stage. But hopefully all of us who locked in a preorder will see 'em fulfilled. (All of my preorders look fine.)

It's so strange to me to think that the Switch 2 launches in a week. It feels like a weirdly subdued launch to me, but maybe that'll change next week.

Click bait. Ignore it. And don't call your retailer and try to change the credit card you used or anything.

I think it's going to be a huge launch. Which to me seems so weird since the system will only be able to play ONE actually brand new game at launch (unless you count that silly Welcome Tour as a game -- I don't). I really can't recall another console launch without at least a couple of games that are new to consoles. Maybe the Series S/X? But that was designed as an incremental launch intentionally.

The switch didn't have much, IIRC. 1-2 Switch, Snipperclips, a Bomberman game, Fast RMX, were there any other exclusives? I remember being a little starved for games.

Yeah, I could've worded that better for sure. I can very easily believe that the Switch 2 will be the largest, most successful hardware release in history, and yet it just doesn't feel like some colossal juggernaut is a few days away. I know Nintendo doesn't need to go all out with a marketing blitz -- every console they manufacture for months will sell out immediately regardless -- but what's happened in the press and with marketing so far hasn't inspired the sort of feverish anticipation I'd expect. I've seen a few other people say the same, so I know I'm not the only one, but I admit that I might be one of very few people who feel this way. :p

I know Breath of the Wild wasn't technically an exclusive, but it might as well have been.

That's only because nobody except me still played their WiiU. Because of the success of the switch there was no reason for games like Fantasy Life (which is fantastic by the way) to be held back even just a few weeks.

I'm with you there! I kept my Wii U hooked up a good bit after the Switch launched, even if it was really only for Nintendo Land and Game & Wario.

But yeah, I suspect you're right and that a big part of my "...is that it?" is not having a game at launch that I'm eagerly anticipating. I know I'll have plenty of fun with Mario Kart World, but it's not something I'd find myself getting lost in.

I didn't say "system exclusive", I just said "New Game". Just like Miles Morales on PS5, it was a new game to play at launch, but could be played on either system.

Nintendo is counting remasterers, ports and upgraded versions as "new games", and they're just not.

well, my GameCube controller is in the preparing to ship stage. that's got to be a good sign. probably preparing for next week, but still.

Gamecube games are only on the expansion pack, right? Are you guys shelling out for that? I've never found it worth it in the switch 1 days, though I guess the "free" upgrades for both Zeldas is tempting.

Yes, I will probably upgrade to expansion with Switch 2. For GC, N64, "free" Zelda expansions and otherwise. seems like it will keep being more worth it.

I signed up yesterday. Figured it was worth it for a year. You get a little discount as well when you do, from what I could see. Loaded up with another $100 eShop credit from Costco (for $90) before signing up, so that's another 10% off.

Is the GC content only available on a Switch 2, or just coming the same day? Because there was an option to DL it onto my Switch, I noticed.

fujishig 05-29-25 11:49 AM

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

I love the NES and SNES but I basically never play those games on my switch, it's the main reason I never bit even though I also love the GBA and Genesis. Like I'm tempted by the GC controller but would I ever use it?

The other day I wanted to "buy" one of the GBA icons with points and they actually locked you from getting them if you don't have the expansion pass. Bastards.

GC games seem tied to the switch 2.

It doesn’t sound like it’ll be on the original Switch.

Zero interest in Gamecube games so I will be sticking with my reasonably priced base NSO service.

Does anyone know about transferring? I was going to transfer all my saves and stuff, but if I’m going to keep my 1 hooked up then it’s not necessary. But then the games that are enhanced are already showing on my Switch 1 and I would like only to transfer those. Is that possible? Thanks.

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

I don't understand the question. But just wait until the system comes out.
Literally nobody is able to use the system yet, not even IGN. So specific questions about how things operate on the Switch 2 will have to wait a week to be answered.

My order through Nintendo is now showing as Preparing to Ship. I was assuming I wouldn't get it at launch due to when I received the invite, but it looks like I may get it for launch day. Paid extra for the fastest shipping option they had available.

Sounds like it is going to be pretty easy to get on launch day if you have a Best Buy or Target nearby to go grab one in-store.

As far as Viewtiful Joe goes, I'd prefer a sequel.
