If you disassemble the electronics and eat the solder, or if you melt down a whole bunch of the plastic in the game cards or the console, then inhale the fumes, it can be really bad for you.

These warnings are on seemingly everything, to the point of ceasing to be helpful or informative.

Yeah, California's Proposition 65 warnings have become a bit of a joke. In theory it's good, warning people of potentially harmful chemicals, but they set the thresholds way too low. So the warning is ubiquitous, and thus nearly useless, since you have to essentially ignore it to use/consume anything.

https://www.vox.com/the-highlight/20...65-toxic-water
Quote:

“Every dry cleaner, every restaurant you walk in has a Prop 65 warning in the window,” says Tom Houston, who helped draft the initial bill as chief deputy to then-Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley. “Everybody just ignores that. The major purposes have all been established. The major bad chemicals are off the market, the major bad actors have been corralled by the initiative. Now this is getting down to be almost ridiculous.”

The reason, in part, is that Prop 65 sets very low thresholds for warnings. For birth defects, warnings are required at one-thousandth of the level at which a certain chemical is shown to cause birth defects. With a carcinogen such as lead, it is a maximum of 0.5 micrograms/liter of lead per day, which is below the amount of lead in the average serving size of the majority of balsamic vinegars. (The warning levels for cancer contain a slightly different, but similarly stringent, standard.)

So some of the now nearly 1,000 chemicals on the Prop 65 list — such as benzene — have a scientific consensus as hazards, making enforcement of warning labels for them especially urgent, while others show tenuous evidence of carcinogenic properties in humans.

Acrylamide, for instance, was added in 1990 after studies in rats linked it to cancer. This chemical — which appears during the process of frying or roasting — has led to cancer warnings on everything from coffee to prune juice in California. But the American Cancer Society notes that there is no connection between acrylamide and cancer, and the FDA writes that “it isn’t feasible to completely eliminate acrylamide from one’s diet … Nor is it necessary.”
So even though the warning is on the Switch 2, you're probably fine, especially if you don't eat your Switch 2.

I was stunned by this as well. You would think that San Fran would be the last place on earth that Nintendo would open a store there. Like you, I thought LA or Las Vegas would have been a lock to get one. Let's see how long this new store remains open before Nintendo realizes their mistake and closes it.

I don't know the exact location and I'm aware of the looting and such, but I figured they'd put it in an area with lots of foot traffic/access to transit, is that not the case?

LA is so decentralized that I'm not sure where you put it and make it accessible except for really expensive areas. Downtown LA has a similar problem to SF with skid row right down the street, and Little Tokyo is also shrinking a ton. The theory that Universal already has Super Mario World is a decent one as well, I guess. Though I would've loved a Nintendo store here (or even a Pokemon center)

At $39.99, the official Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case is overpriced. But it looks pretty nice and high quality. I went ahead and pre-ordered one from Target (not yet available from Best Buy at present, and not at Amazon, natch). Amazon has a dozen that look similar at half the price. I'm just keeping my options open for now.

Also, here is a quick guide on sharing digital games with family members who are also on your Nintendo Online Family account. Looks like this is what I will do with my son when I give him my Switch. I just have to lend him the games he wants when he comes back from college for the weekend or stuff. Not an ideal system, but that will work okay for us, at least for now.

I think I'm going to go with some kind of really cheap case at first and then probably eventually get a Satisfye grip. I really like mine on the Switch, makes it a lot more comfortable to use to the point where I can't really play it without it. But I'll wait until I get my hands on it to see if I really need it since it is quite a bit bigger. And if you get the grip you really need to get the case too since you won't find a case that will fit it. But it's really pricey at $70 for the bundle so that's why I'll just wait for now.

California, that's all that needs to be said.

You've never seen those warnings before?

But I can totally see how too much gaming can cause reproductive harm. ;)

I've never heard that saying before. I'm going to start using it. lol.

It does look awkward but it's a really good design. Improves playing in handheld mode by a really large degree.

But yeah, definitely waiting to get my hands on the Switch 2 before purchasing.

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

Now this is a VERY nice feature for the Pro Controller 2 :

The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller has a one-up on the Xbox Elite and DualSense Edge, as Nintendo confirms you don't need to leave your game to remap the bumper buttons

While Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Cons are getting all of the love for their snazzy new mouse features, the other main controller has flown under the radar somewhat. For the most part, the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller looks very similar to the original, but this time around Nintendo's more standard gamepad features the back bumpers seen on the likes of the DualSense Edge, Xbox Elite Series 2, and all manner of third-party options.Dubbed GR and GL, these buttons are able to be assigned to any other button on the Switch 2 controller that you please. If you're playing Splatoon and want to jump without taking your finger off the right stick, just map it to one of these. However, the Xbox Elite Controller and the DualSense Edge controller require you to go digging into the Xbox Accessories app or system settings, respectively, to remap these (although they do feature multiple profiles to switch between).
Nintendo has revealed through the Nintendo Today app (that we all clowned on, but I've grown to like) that remapping these buttons will be way easier on the Nintendo Switch 2. All you need to do is hold down the home menu until the Quick Settings bar shows up and change them from there. This means you'll be able to remap these buttons from within the game without having to go back to the home screen and dig into settings pages.

Nintendo also notes that the Switch 2 will remember each user's preferred button assignments for each game, so despite its lack of profile toggle on the controller, you'll still be able to have them swap between games without having to manually remap them.

Semi-sadly, it looks like it will be $69.99 at Costco ($10 off), not $64.99 when it becomes available on Launch day.

I was able to find one of these 512 GB Switch 2 compatible SD Express cards at a local Wal-Mart for $65. Might be worth checking. That's $5 more than the Nintendo branded 256.

As it shown, the brand is 'onn'. I know nothing about them, but I'm sure it's fine. Sold out online, you have to Luck out and find one in stock at a local store.
But you're good. Don't buy one.

I tried searching around but cannot find what I'm looking for. Will the Switch Pro Controller for Switch 2 be able to pair with the Switch 1, so we don't have to use 2 controllers for both systems? I know you can use SW1 Pro on SW2, but is it vice versa? Thanks in advance.

Not according to IGN:

I can’t think of too many accessories that are compatible with the previous generation of hardware. You can use a PS4 controller on the PS5, but you can’t use a DualSense on the PS4.

The constant re-pairing from one device to another seems as if it’d be extremely inconvenient too.

Are you planning on keeping both your Switch and Switch 2 docked for storage reasons? (Like, moving things between SD cards?)

I'm not sure exactly. I planned to have them both hooked up and playable (as of now), but if the Switch 1 games are even a little improvement, wouldn't I want to play all my SW1 games on SW2?

Especially if you're keeping it docked, yeah. I can see myself feeling more eager to take the original Switch on road trips and flights than the Switch 2. There are some compatibility issues too, if that's a dealbreaker:

At a glance, it looks like I only have one affected game (Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival).
