Will you be buying a PS5 Pro?

Re: Will you be buying a PS5 Pro?
Again, I'm not sure we can count on Sony coming to that conclusion (these are the people who told us to work overtime to afford their console before). It is far off so we'll see. But they surely will want to make a generational leap and I have no idea, given how much games cost now, if the whole "subsidize the console a lot to sell more games" still works. But we'll see.

That price and no disc drive?
We barely play the PS5 (and XSX) that we went through all the drama of buying, and we end up using the PC for most of our gaming.
But I also use them as our disc players since they both do DVD through 4K discs.

No, I just got my PS5 barely 2 years ago after the shortage during COVID and recently upgraded the internal HD to 2TB. I'm perfectly happy with it with what minimal gaming I do.
There is just too many entertainment options these days and not enough time to enjoy them all to the fullest.

Although I was never going to get the PS5 Pro, I too find the price tag (and lack of accessories) troubling because it feels like a return to arrogant (PS3 era) Sony. Although we should have seen this coming with their typical $70 price tag for first party titles this generation. Makes me worried that the PS6 will be even pricier and just as bare bones.

Digital Foundry posted an article along the lines of what you're saying: PS5 Pro vs PC value comparisons are less important than a potentially bleak future for console pricing
The concept of asking existing PlayStation owners with money to spare to choose between a PS5 Pro and a PC is a little odd then, but the nature of the £699/$699/€799 price-point opens up a very different and much more interesting discussion on the future of console pricing in general, outside of the idea of a premium SKU offering. Today's PS5 Pro isn't a mainstream proposition but one might imagine that the next generation PlayStation 6 definitely will be. The standard PS5 with a disc drive launched with a $100 premium over the outgoing PlayStation 4 Pro - which certainly raises awkward questions about future console pricing if the same thing holds true for PS6 vs PS5 Pro. I don't think any platform holder can go into the tenth generation with Pro-level sticker prices and if they do, we could be looking at a repeat - or worse - of the PlayStation 3 launch disaster. And a situation like that with a brand new generation could see people looking over their options, and I think both Microsoft and Valve perhaps understand this.

I searched the other day, there are only 17 or so games that are exclusive to PS5. This generation has like 95% overlap with PS4 and PC combined, and tons of people don’t even feel the need for a PS5, let alone a Pro.

Sony lead the $69.99 charge, but most everyone in the AAA space has followed suit. Even Nintendo went that direction with Tears of the Kingdom (though just that one title, so far). I think an increase was inevitable and that Sony just happened to get there first.

That's why we still consider the PS5 a next gen console when it's been out for years already. PS4 is still FAR more common in households.

I was getting a Pro no matter what but I will definitely try for the limited one and then if I can't get it just get a standard pro.

Not moved by that color scheme at all. It's nostalgic, sure, but not enough to get me to buy the Pro or the controller.

Huge bundle but that's not the problem. Limited to only 12300 worldwide. Goes on sale the same day as the regular Pro (and all the other anniversary stuff). Nobody knows what time. Nobody even knows the exact price of the bundle. But the biggest thing is being limited to 12300 and being prime scalper bait.
Remember that this is the same website that had problems even dealing with the excitement of the Astro Bot controller, and that was available everywhere.
It'll (probably) be hard enough to get a regular Pro at launch,it'll be all but impossible to get the anniversary Pro.

I feel like the Slim 30th model will be better for scalpers than the Pro bundle. That one is only 499 and has plenty of room to mark up for resale. The pro bundle will probably be over 1k retail. I don't see much meat on the bones for scalpers with that one.

Pro bundle that limited will be able to be sold pretty easily, I'd think.

Purely looking at it from a profit standpoint, I just think the Pro bundle will be the worst for those people (bots).

If I had to guess, I’d say I think the 30th anniversary pro bundle will be $1230 (in line with there being 12,300 units, because why not), and then there will be dozens on eBay for $2000+. It’s the nature of the “limited edition” market. They could just make the 30th anniversary colors as the standard Pro for a full year, but nope.
Either way, I’m not personally interested enough to buy a Pro. Maybe if I got a fantastic deal on trading in my PS5, but I don’t see the need to have that console without a flagship game to make the most of it. Maybe such a game will be shown at today’s State of Play.
