How different was a PS4 Pro from the previous model?

Easily identifiable. The Pro had a 3rd "tier" of height to it.

I really wish Sony and MS would just make their consoles standard component sized. Does anyone actually like the weird shape of the PS5 or the shoebox design of the XBOX?

I suspect the Pro will not come with a disc drive, but will be compatible with the removable PS5 Slim disc drive, which is available separately. To me it makes sense to have less SKUs going into the holiday season, not more.

Re: Will you be buying a PS5 Pro?

I have a PS5, and have no desire to get the Pro. The only way I'd have two consoles in the house is once my son gets old enough and we want to do more coop games. We'd have to find a place for another TV first though, and I'm not really sure where that would be. Small house problems.

I suspect the answer is yes. I get why someone would like a console that fits with other components, but it wouldn't really work well without proper ventilation anyway. And honestly, there's a lot of 'cool' associated with a console's iconic and defining look. If they all looked like DVD Players, they would be a lot less exciting.

According to Mystic, the reason the PS5 Pro looks like that is they want to be able to keep selling the same console covers. I believe the 3 lines in the middle just give it a little extra height, but the actually cover plates are the same size.

$6000 seems pretty expensive.

Re: Will you be buying a PS5 Pro?

That makes sense if the PS5 is sticking at $500. I won't be getting it, but for those who want to upgrade to the most powerful console, I guess it might be worth it for them?

Are there sales numbers for how the PS4 Pro did?

Once it was released from that point on, the Pro accounted for 20% of PS4s sold. Overall, I think that’d put it somewhere around 10%.

Of course it played games (and streamed movies) in UHD, which the PS4 couldn't do. So that is some degree of actual functionality that the PS4 slim could not do. Here the PS5 Pro is just an incrementally better performing system. Not exactly a 1:1 comparison.

Did Sony accidentally confirm the PS5 Pro design today?

I doubt I'll upgrade. I'm still playing Fallout 4 and Fallout 76. The last PS5 games I played were Resident Evil Village and Cyberpunk 2077.

Re: Will you be buying a PS5 Pro?

No need to upgrade unless there are some insane features being added, which I doubt. PS5 was already a supercharged console at launch, unlike the PS4.

I don't think we'll see games taking advantage of the Pro until GTA 6 comes out.

More accurate numbers from industry analyst Mat Piscatella:

PS4 Pro fun facts... in the US, PS4 Pro accounted for 13% of total lifetime PS4 units, and about 15% of dollars. Total PS4 unit volume trend did not change significantly when PS4 Pro released, but average price went up. Succeeded at driving incremental sales to the super enthusiast (not mass) base.

This is just for the US.

Re: Will you be buying a PS5 Pro?

Well, they didn't show a Disc version (at least that I could see; they didn't specify disc vs discless) and it is $700

They sell a disc drive separately for the slim ($80) which can be used on this.

For me it’s a no sale.

Re: Will you be buying a PS5 Pro?

The PS5 Pro console will be available this holiday at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $699.99 USD, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY (includes tax). It will include a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller and a copy of Astro’s Playroom pre-installed in every PS5 Pro purchase. PS5 Pro is available as a disc-less console, with the option to purchase the currently available Disc Drive for PS5 separately.

PS5 Pro will launch on November 7, 2024 and will be available at participating retailers and directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com. Preorders will begin on September 26, 2024.

Re: Will you be buying a PS5 Pro?

that supped up price must be because of the 2TB SSD.
