Will you be buying a PS5 Pro?
 

Although it has not been officially announced, some specs have been leaked and people are getting hyped.

So my question is: whether you’re upgrading from your PS5, or just now joining in on the greatness that awaits, or even keeping your existing PS5 so you can have an extra PlayStation in another room, will you be getting one?

Just got my PS5 last year so nah. I like it a lot and knew I ran the risk of a Pro model coming soon when I bought it. For me what I have is good enough as long as it still supports games I’m okay with it.

I gave up consoles but I love that they're bringing all games to PC.

I'm not completely sure on how to vote in the poll.

I definitely intend on getting a PS5 Pro, although I'm not sure what I'll do with my existing console. I could put it in another room so my wife and I could play not-couch-co-op games together, I could trade it into GameStop or whatever for credit, or I could give it to my kid sister who's looking at migrating away from the Xbox ecosystem.

I will definitely get the Pro and will keep my existing PS5 at least in the mean time.

Undecided at this time. Need more info on the console. I do have a PS5.

No, not really needed. Our PS5 is in the living room and gets more use as a movie player than as a game player.

Kind of surprised at only two definite yes votes (so far).
I'm someone who bought all three mid-generation upgrades from the last set of consoles all within the first week of release (One X, PS4 Pro, and Switch OLED, even though the last one was purely a screen upgrade and nothing else, it was worth it), but I can't see myself buying a PS5 Pro (or whatever Xbox equivalent, if there is one) at this point, either. I think everyone's reasons are different, ranging from feeling like the existing hardware is more than capable, to just not getting enough use out of the hardware as it is to bother with another upgrade. Still, I would have thought more people here would be getting one.

I haven't really played anything that definitely needed more power this generation. Previous gens it was either blurry graphics or shit frame rates, this Gen has been solid all around for me.

I can't honestly say I'm excited about the prospect: certainly not the way I was for the Xbox One X or the PS4 Pro. (I bought the PS4 Pro in Sep. '17, so the better part of a year after launch, and the X1X on day one.) The last round of mid-gen refreshes felt like they had something really substantive to offer. HDR! 4K(ish)!

I guess I'll just have to see what Sony shows off in September (assuming any of this even happens!), but I'm not expecting anything nearly as transformative. Basically the same thing but a little better, with improved raytracing, Sony's new upscaling tech, and a little more power under the hood.

I'm not expecting to have my socks knocked off, but there's something about console gaming where I feel compelled to have the latest and greatest (the exact reason I stay away from PC gaming!), so they've got this sucker hooked anyway.

Even just the prospect has changed my purchasing habits, I have to admit. The XSX was my primary console for multiplatform titles, but I've switched over to the PS5, assuming that everything will play at least a little better on the Pro.

A similar poll on ResetERA was majority-no: around 44.7% "yes", which was a lot higher than I would've expected, even on an enthusiast forum.

Nope...just fine with my Launch PS5 connected to a 42" LG C3.......However.....depending on two things, I might end up with the supposedly New XBox when that comes out...OR....if Halo and Gears Games comes to PS then consider the Pro or just wait and see on Nex Gen....

It would be dependent on what the specs or improvements were with the Pro but I would most likely swap my existing PS5 with one.

The only notable changes are related to the GPU and AI frame generation stuff. CPU is effectively unchanged.
Digital Foundry did a good job covering it in their podcast.



Sure, we don’t know price, but it’s not like it matters that much; either people are itching to upgrade or aren’t.

:lol: Probably the wrong word usage there. I was trying to reply when my food arrived at the restaurant. "Premature" is more likely.
And I hadn't (and still haven't) seen that video. Thought we were still in the 'it's probably coming soon, stay tuned" phase.

to be fair, I should have added an “It’s too soon to have this discussion” option. I bet that would be the leading answer, and not the one where folks have no interest in upgrading.

i checked the poll that Adam mentioned earlier. The split is about 45% yes to 55% no with almost 2000 votes. Good discussion there, too.

Nope, Sony isn't getting my money on this one. I did that for the PS4 (buying a PS4 Pro) and felt like the sucker of the year after that. I will gladly buy a PS6 when it comes out, but i'm not in any hurry to upgrade.

I can't imagine a good reason to get a PS5 Pro other than to just say I have one... my next PS anything will be the Portal and then the PS6
