For anyone interested in what this is:

"There are five new secret Astro's Playroom trophies to uncover, each of which involves you hunting down a mysterious guest character that appears somewhere in Astro's world. The only catch is that you won't be able to unlock these trophies if you're trying to collect them in June 2024.
The new trophies want you to hunt down four special DLC characters, but at present, only one has been added to Astro's Playroom. The free DLC also comes with an expansion to Astro's PlayStation Labo section that contains a timer counting down to Astro Bot's PS5 release date in September 2024. One would suspect that as we get closer to the launch of this sequel to Astro's Playroom, we'll see more of these guest characters appear. There are also at least a bunch of new PlayStation hardware-themed collectibles to unlock from the Gacha machine, including the PSVR2."

The first character they released is from Bloodbourne and solving its puzzle gets you the first trophy.
The second character they released is Selene from Returnal and solving her puzzle gets you the second trophy.
The third character they released is from Gran Turismo and solving their puzzle gets you the third trophy.
The fourth character is an ape from Ape Escape and solving their puzzle gets you the fourth trophy and then the final trophy for collecting them all.
Moving this over since it got buried in the PlayStation 5 thread. The final hidden character they added to Astro's Playroom is now available to find (Ape Escape monkey) and the assumption is that the unlocked characters will transfer over to Astro Bot since after you unlock them they appear in front of the new door that leads to the Astro Bot store page.

Reviews embargo lifts tomorrow. Don’t know what time, but from other replies, 12pm est.maybe?

It’s going to get very good reviews. Don’t worry about that.

Honestly, there’s basically zero chance this gets scathing, let alone middling, reviews unless the game is fundamentally broken, which is just not likely at all. The only potential issue is replayability, but I get the feeling they’ve addressed that with speed run stuff, hidden items, hard-to-get trophies, etc.

It’ll probably also be the top selling game on PS5 this year, if not since the console launched. People are hyped.
I can’t wait to get my copy in two days, but Amazon is giving me a “before 10pm” delivery window which is kind of lame.

Some people already got it from Amazon over the last day or so and are pretty happy with it, can probably find impressions online now.

Who knows? Probably should sell your PS5 just to be safe.

If I were a betting man, I think the biggest/only(?) complaints will be about game length.

Reviews are up! 94 on both MetaCritic and OpenCritic.

Length-wise, it sounds like Astro Bot takes 10-15 hours to play through (maybe closer to the middle of that range), and completionism brings that closer to 20.

i like this one review from ComicBook: "Despite having high expectations for Astro Bot, Team Asobi still found a way to surpass all of my hopes. This isn’t just one of the best games of 2024, it’s one of the best platformers that I have played in the last decade. Those who have a long attachment to PlayStation or just a simple love for games of this genre cannot let Astro Bot pass them by."

It’s the highest rated standalone game of the year to date, and depending on which aggregator you use, it’s tied or a point behind the Elden Ring DLC.

Sounds perfect to fill the gap between now and Zelda.

John at DF makes some of the best videos, and his taste in (most) games seems to mirror mine in a bunch of ways. Sounds like this is going to be a total blast and I can’t wait to see the stuff he chose not to talk about!

Yeah I ordered the physical. It’s got a poster, manual, and they specifically mentioned putting put care into the design.
