Man, that first boss fight with Carvex is quite the bitch. You definitely need those psychic charges to move. I have to do it in multiple sessions bc I can’t always keep that charge moving. I can’t imagine the other bosses, but this certainly takes a bit to get right.

What, no one else got all 3?

Reading this whole thread is such a trip. I never thought I’d ever play another Metroid game in my life and now I’ve played MP1 remastered, Super Metroid, the original NES and now this. The world works in mysterious ways.

There is a much cheaper option. Get NFC tags and make your own (a tad more work but not much). Allegedly.

That's much cheaper than $12?

You can get 20 NFC tags for like 6 bucks. I figure several Nintendo folks have NFC tags from prior games (Animal Crossing, in particular). Using them for Amibos is not new.

this game is really good. even the MacKenzie guy in the first act is not too annoying. you mostly go it alone, with him staying back to fix something or whatever else. still plays like a traditional MP game, except for the psychic abilities, which are totally cool.

I played for 20 mins. It’s okay. Granted I haven’t played a true Metroid game since 2007 (the terrible Metroid Dread doesn’t count) but this isn’t anything spectacular. I’d rate it a 4/10 at this point.

4/10? the gorgeous environment should rate it an 8-9 at least.

Gorgeous? Hardly. All I’ve seen is doors that light up.

Have you been to Fury Green yet? It’s lush and beautiful for a game. Like I said before, almost like Pandora from Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.

Nope. Avatar was overrated though. Grown up Smurfs.

Again....just because you suck at Metroid Dread, doesn't make it a bad game.

What’s so bad about Dread? I’ve been wanting to play that since I got a Switch. Haven’t yet, obviously, but it got very good reviews. What’s the main gripes?

Nothing. Metroid Dread is S tier Metroid. Right up there with Super Metroid, Metroid Prime and Metroid Zero Mission. The controls are incredibly precise. The combat is intuitive and deep with some moves being incredibly difficult to pull off but equally rewarding. The atmosphere is top notch. The graphics are incredible. The frame rate is solid. The bosses are great. Even the story is great and really advances the metroid lore and Samus herself. The problem is that it is hard. Like really hard. So most of the detractors are new to the series or aren't really fans and don't like it because of it's difficulty level. Or complain that they get lost too often. Which Dread is not a game that's going to hold your hand. I'm pretty good at video games and a huge metroid fan and the final boss took me about 2 hours and ~20 tries to beat. One common complaint is that the music isn't up to snuff. It's ok but not nearly as epic or iconic as Super or Prime. And some people didn't like the EMMI sequences in the game. Basically stealth sections.

Mercury Steam, the developers of Dread and Samus Returns really get what makes a great metroid game. I really hope they're working on another one.

I was definitely drea… not liking it.

Anyway Prime 4 isn’t as bad as I thought after I played more. I’ll change my rating to a 6/10. Maybe it’ll get better.

It was hard and looked like a DS game.

Oh it could have been. It looked good and played well. I just thought it was too difficult to be enjoyable every time you encountered a Sentinel. I quit it pretty early. Loved the previous DS and 3DS Metroid games.
