not too bad. looks great. i still can't wait. just wish i could play it earlier than this weekend. i think the build up far surpassed the actual product.

Nintendo really dropped the ball not releasing remasters of 2 and 3 before this.

I don't normally go to NPR for my video game reviews, but they're really down on it, for some reason.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is a technical marvel and game design nightmare

Despite beautiful art direction, graphics, and sound design, Metroid Prime 4 is a baffling game to play. It focuses too much on action instead of puzzle solving and exploration. It has annoying side characters who won't leave you alone. Its desolate overworld lacks personality.

The result is a game that feels antithetical to the carefully curated mood that makes this series work: and one of the weaker Metroid games in recent years.

Sounds like Nintendo dropped the ball not keeping the franchise alive for nearly 20 years and forgot how to make a Prime game.

I feel like IGN is much more harsh on reviewing games nowadays.

i think their review is pretty much the consensus view on this game. They aren't an outlier here. The reviews were universally ecstatic for Donkey Kong Bananza; here they are positive with qualifications.

hm..

Well I'm still getting it. Would have loved if this game did for Metroid was Pikmin 4 did for Pikmin.

Outside of DKB, it seems like it’s all 8’s and lower. Even movies get hit hard.

Expedition 33, Hades 2, Split/Fiction, Hollow Knight Silksong and Blue Prince all scored in the 90s this year. Kingdom Come II Deliverance and Ghost of Yoti were just below that.

For what it’s worth, the Digital Foundry team is impressed with this game.

Unfortunately I did not, but I’m going to jump into this so as not to cause Prime fatigue which can happen if you play back to back games in a franchise with similar game mechanics. I’ll keep it on the back burner for now, but I’m too eager to play this right away and me being sick is the perfect opportunity today.

Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (12/4/2025; Switch, Switch 2)

boy oh boy. the first section really throws you into the hell storm about to come. even a mini-boss to start the game. it looks gorgeous. the lush greens of Fury Green are tremendous. this psychic ability stuff might be a very different and great direction to go into. I'm currently stuck, but i think i have to use my psychic abilities and use the motes with it to open a door to get to Sol Valley. any who, the game is gorgeous (almost looks like you’re in Pandora) and I'm looking forward to playing more. the doors sure are different too and I'm not used to but i guess they had to change somethings around, but you still hear the common sounds, and the music is there. it's also very serene in Fury Green. kind of like ethereal if that makes sense. so far so good.

My Costco order came in today so that's nice. I won't be able to play it until next week probably.

Still can't believe I have Metroid Prime 4 in my hands.

Anyone get theirs from Best Buy under the Gamer's Club? Or Amazon?

It’s gonna be great. I got that itch back that I want to play at times I don’t normally play. I got unstuck the way I said and the map is much more helpful than MP1. I just can’t get enough. Much more tomorrow now. Even though I still feel like shit.

i scanned my first amiibo. it was so cool. just put it on top on controller and it detected the two i had automatically and gave me energy and says I can use once per day. That was very cool!

There are many who think locking the in-game music behind a $30 Amiibo is not at all cool.

too bad for them, i guess? i didn't care if it did nothing, i just like the little toy. that it does something like give me full energy once per day is just a bonus. should have Sylux later today.

Oh, the issue people have is locking music behind the Amiibo. The refill of health is standard Amiibo stuff.

That is really shitty, but at the same time it is right on brand with the times we live in.

Just so everyone knows, there's a $12 work-around
