So, can someone tell me why the hell Spider-Man has to hold onto a pole on the subway (during the fast travel sequences)? Pretty sure he could be in a moving train doing a one handed handstand and not budge an inch

For the same reason he takes a subway when clearly it would be faster to swing through the city.

Re: Spider-Man (Insomniac Games) PS4 (9/7/18)

Sony confirmed that there's no upgrade path to Remastered for owners of the current PS4 release except to buy Miles Morales (either the deluxe edition or paying to upgrade the standard edition):

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered is an enhanced version of Marvel’s Spider-Man, and is included as part of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition for the PlayStation 5. In addition, players who purchase Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PlayStation 4 can upgrade at no additional cost to the PS5 version of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and can take advantage of a paid-upgrade to download Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered.

There are no plans currently to offer Marvel’s-Spider-Man: Remastered as a standalone. Players with a copy of Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4 can purchase Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition to experience Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered on PS5. Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4 also will be backwards compatible on PS5.

That is about what I expected. At least they confirm that you can pay $20 for the Spider-Man upgrade later if you want to, assuming you own Miles Morales. That's something.

I'd been bracing myself for this for a bit, although it still stings. I'm more annoyed about what this'll mean for other recent/recent-ish games, like Last of Us II and Ghost of Tsushima.

And this is more than just a next-gen upgrade - it's a full remaster. So that is different, I think. We aren't just talking about improved frame rates and textures, this is ray tracing reflections, more cars and pedestrians. A lot of work. I wouldn't necessarily expect that for free.

You are the exception that is exactly what the majority of gamers expect for free.

Re: Spider-Man (Insomniac Games) PS4 (9/7/18)

I literally don't see anyone saying Spider-Man: Remastered should be 100% free. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places and/or not paying attention to 15-year-olds.
I see people saying two things:
1. There should be a direct paid upgrade path from Spider-Man PS4 to Spider-Man Remastered on PS5. Meaning:
  • if you own Spider-Man PS4 on disc, you should be able to pop it in your PS5 and pay $20 to upgrade it to the Spider-Man Remastered on PS5 version, still requiring the Spider-Man PS4 disc for authentication.
  • If you own Spider-Man PS4 digitally, you should be able to pay $20 to upgrade it to the Spider-Man Remastered on PS5 remastered version.
  • People are willing to pay this $20 because that's exactly what they're charging if you own Miles Morales PS5 (standard or ultimate)
    • If you buy the standard Miles Morales, you have access to buy the digital Spider-Man Remastered on PS5
    • If you buy the ultimate Miles Morales, digital Spider-Man Remastered on PS5 is redeemable
2. It sure would be nice if your save file from Spider-Man PS4 could carry over to Spider-Man Remastered on PS5.
  • This seems to be far less of a sore spot, but I get the point. In "current year" bringing your save from one version of a game to another version of the same game is a nice to have option, but not mandatory by any stretch. Some people appreciate the effort to make it happen. Others couldn't care less.
  • That said, I don't think there's any example where this has been the case in the past. Any "Remastered" game is, as far as save files and achievements/trophies, an entirely different game. This goes for everything that's ever been released, as far as I've seen, other than what MS is doing with Smart Delivery. But that's a new initiative, and can't be expected across the board, even if it's arguably a good thing to do with minimal (if any) downside.

Re: Spider-Man (Insomniac Games) PS4 (9/7/18)

The whole upgrade thing is a huge double edged sword. They want to make money but offer new features, gamers don't mind paying for remastered versions but when it's obvious they're being screwed they make it known.

The difference is you are using new assets here, so I don't think of it as a $20 upgrade as much as a $20 DLC for the new game. You would never expect to be able to buy and play DLC for a game that you don't have, barring a stand-alone expansion (and those are almost never just $20). It would have been nice if people who already have bought Spider-Man GotY and then buy Miles Morales digitally could get that upgrade included, but I didn't expect it and am not too disappointed that I can't. I just appreciate that you don't have to decide right away if you want to pay for the Ultimate Edition and you can play through Miles Morales and see if you want to go back to Spider-Man later (and, of course, you can still play your old PS4 game and use that same game save on the PS5, just not the upgraded version). Superficially it may seem like this is close to the Control situation, but it isn't because there, they are asking fans of the game to re-buy all the content that they already own in order to get the upgrade, AND will not let people pay for the upgrade separately.

2. It sure would be nice if your save file from Spider-Man PS4 could carry over to Spider-Man Remastered on PS5.

OKAMI for PS4 and Dragon's Crown Pro (on sale for a steal at $6.99, BTW) both can use PS3 saves to start on the PS4 remastered version. The trade off is that they share a trophy set. I don't think you can have both your old progress and new trophies (they did that on the Vita and PS3, but not with the PS4 - probably due to complaints).

Spider-Man Remastered recast the face of the actor playing Peter!

Was this because the original actor wasn't available for Miles Morales and wanted them to be the same between the two? Or just an actor swap?

"just to be clear, all the performance and facial capture is Yuri in the game. So all of that performance, is coming forward. It's just the head model that changed."

Outstanding news! So I can just go into New Game+ instead of starting from nothin'.

That's cool. But the flipside is no new Trophies, I would expect.

Re: Spider-Man (Insomniac Games) PS4 (9/7/18)

Now see, that has me pondering getting the more expensive version now. There was zero chance I'd start over in Spider-man so the Ultimate Edition was a no-go. Now I'm rethinking getting just the Miles Morales game and getting the UE instead. Amazing how putting in some effort will net sales.

Plus I still have about a DLC and a half to go to finish everything. I'll pop back in for another swing on PS5.

Remember that you can always buy the regular version of Miles Morales now and unlock the Ultimate Edition content later on the PS5 for $20. You don't have to decide now.

this is what I ended up doing. Canceled my UE version and got the regular. Will decide later if I want to do the $20 upgrade.

I sold my PS4 in anticipation of the PS5, so I hope I can use my save from PS+ then export it all on the new PS5 and with the UE of Miles Morales. Otherwise I’m not sure what I can do to export the save.

Same. Good call Decker. Saved me $20 to spend on that little known game called Control. I LOVE Miles Morales and am having a blast, but I just don't see myself going backwards to the original game once I'm done. So cheers!
