I've never even heard of Captain Toad. What sort of a game is it and is it good?

It's a puzzle game. Try to imagine a platformer where you can't actually jump. You're navigating/exploring a giant box in 360 degrees, trying to get from one point to another by solving little puzzles and avoiding enemies. It's cute and fun.

As someone who never bought a Wii U, I think all the ports are great. But that said, we're still only a year in to the Switch's life and unexpected massive success, so I think it will take some time for 3rd parties to catch up. That said, I think it's a great system for a lot of the smaller indie or arcade style games outside of big major releases.

On the topic of releasing old games, I wish they were better with linking systems/downloaded contect. I bought Super Metroid on the Wii, but if I wanted to play it on my 3DS or Switch, I'd have to buy it again (possibly twice).

That'll probably be true for the Switch, but aside from the fact that Virtual Console is launching alongside their online service in September, we don't know how it'll work yet.

Oh, I didn't even notice VC wasn't out yet. I've only had my Switch a few weeks and it's been all Zelda so far.

Yeah, its still relatively early into the system’s lifespan. It just celebrated a year a week ago. I think all things considered it’s been a really strong year for them. I guess I can see not wanting ports if you’ve bought them but really it doesn’t seem that different from the launch of other consoles. Basically for a while it’s the company and developers still kind of figuring out what’s possible. The ports we're getting are decent at least and not just random crap being dumped on the Switch but ports that the PS4 and One are getting around the same time.

Wait, did they reveal some new ports that I missed? Otherwise aren't most of the third party ports older games?

Also, this is a similar strategy that the other two companies are using, porting old titles to new systems, sometimes multiple times, mainly because we keep buying them. Like if I buy Hyrule Warriors or Smash, this will be my third time buying them because of the WiiU and 3DS. But the same is true of, say, Shadow of the Collosus.

The big things yesterday as far as third party ports were South Park: The Fractured But Whole and the Crash N Sane Trilogy.

And Little Nightmares. And Undertale. And Okami. And Dark Souls.

I like Smash but I’m not hardcore about it like a lot of fans. Maybe because I don’t play competitively or in tournaments.

I played a couple of levels on the Wii U but I didn't care for it.

I imagine the same sickos who don't like chocolate peanut butter cups also dislike Captain Toad.

Mario Tennis Aces looks pretty good.

In other news, Super Smash Bros. for the Switch is part of Best Buy's $10-in-Rewards program if you preorder (same as Odyssey last year).

Yeah looks pretty fun. I’m not huge into normal sports games but usually enjoy these more arcade style versions Nintendo does.

Just bought my switch last night. Got a copy of Mario and Zelda as well as a 2nd dock for 59.99. Not sure how many other Switch specific titles I am really interested in. I like the handheld aspect of it but hope they can put out some more titles that will pique my interest. No interest in playing Skyrim, Dark or any other console based titles on here.

Best Buy is having a sale on all Lego games for $19.99 ($15.99 with GCU) including the Switch version of Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2, which (as far as I have read) is the first Switch Lego game that doesn't have performance issues.

Does anyone know if the 18 sports titles sold well on the Switch? (NBA 2K18, FIFA 18, WWE 2K18) I'm not sure if there were any more sports titles on the Switch this past year. I would love to have mobile version of Madden and NHL to play on the go.

Thanks for the heads up! I was actually thinking about getting this title for the PS4 and will likely get it for the PS4 at some point. Any of these multi-console titles will most likely be picked up for the PS4, which is still my preferred console. I want some Nintendo specific titles for my Switch.

It’s that price on all three systems this week. You can also save $1 with the old “ship it...no do store pick up instead“ trick. Can’t beat $14.99 for a three month old game.

Kirby Star Allies is "currently unavailable" at Amazon instead of the pre-order page with 20% off for Prime. I wonder if I missed my chance...I haven't seen this before and it isn't occurring with other Switch titles.
