I've been getting them all through the web daily. The Switch is gathering dust for now. I've intermittently participated in past years.

Switchmas Day 6 giveaway is Ring Sculptors
https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/pr...lptors-switch/
No reviews on MetaCritic
https://www.metacritic.com/game/ring-sculptors/
No Steam release
There's very little about this game online. Apparently, it's adaptation of a gamebook by acclaimed Polish science fiction author Tomasz Kołodziejczak. I think the original story is what's called an "adventure gamebook," at least by Wikipedia.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamebook#Adventures
The story in question is called Rzeźbiarze Pierścieni in Polish, which Google translates to "Ring Carvers". I found a review of the original story on a site called Masz Wybór , which translates to "You Have a Choice". I'm quoting the Google Translate English translation
https://masz-wybor.com.pl/rzezbiarze-pierscieni/
I also found one gameplay video, which shows off some of the points system, but also illustrates how text-heavy the game is:
It's interesting, because the game came out in August, but there's very little about it, at least in English. Maybe it's a hit in Poland.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamebook#Adventures
Adventure gamebooks incorporate elements from Choose Your Own Adventure books and role-playing solitaire adventures. The books involve a branching path format in order to move between sections of text, but the reader creates a character as in a role-playing game, and resolves actions using a game-system. Unlike role-playing solitaire adventures, adventure gamebooks include all the rules needed for play in each book. Adventure gamebooks are usually not divided into numbered pages, but rather into numbered sections of text, so that several sections may fit in a single page, or a single section can span several pages.
https://masz-wybor.com.pl/rzezbiarze-pierscieni/
The game's protagonist is a castaway who, after years of drifting through space in hibernation, is saved by the titular Ring Carvers. At the beginning of the game, the reader is randomly assigned one of nine identities - each with a different story that does not affect the game, and statistics that do affect the game. The characters describe three features - Body, which determines fitness and motor coordination, Mind, which defines broadly understood mental efficiency, and Ego, which determines the ability to cooperate with computer networks, take control of cybernetic devices, etc. We can improve skills by distributing additional points between them. Tests are performed by rolling a ten-sided die, or - as the author suggests - opening the book to a random page (alternating left and right) and checking the ones digit. This mechanism, ingenious in its simplicity, saves a lot of time that would otherwise have to be spent rolling dice or playing with a table of random numbers. There is no combat system present in many games, but thanks to this the game is fast and the constant tests do not disrupt the rhythm of the story. In terms of mechanics, Ring Carvers looks amazing in my opinion.
Once we have filled out our character sheet, we can delve into the story again. Our main goal is to regain our freedom. Our hosts, an order that creates sculptures in planetary rings, will only let us out if we complete a dangerous mission. Namely, we have to find out what happened in one of the order's outposts, which has not been giving any sign of life for some time. Willingly or unwillingly, we set off on the road to the Transkolos base.
In order to solve the puzzle, the player can freely explore the deserted base. There is only one catch - a limited supply of oxygen. We often have to decide whether it is worth visiting a given place or how much time to spend searching a room. Excessive delay and ill-considered decisions can lead to death by suffocation. Fortunately, the base is not too large and finding the right clue should not take anyone long. The game can therefore be completed very quickly, but this fact is compensated by several alternative endings and the possibility of playing a different character and distributing trait points differently.
The gamebook is a pleasure to read. Much of this is due to the gripping story and the author's craft.

Switchmas Day 10 giveaway is Ego Protocol: Remastered
https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/pr...stered-switch/
Generally Unfavorable on Metacritic:
https://www.metacritic.com/game/ego-...ol-remastered/
The original game is on Steam, with mixed reviews, although all the negative reviews seem about how buggy the game was at launch:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/425760/EGO_Protocol/
Oddly enough, this game isn't coming up for free for me, at least right now. I've checked both on my Switch and via the Nintendo website.

Would there be any reason why I can't purchase games from the eShop using both Microsoft Edge and Firefox? I can only buy games or redeem codes on the Switch itself. Seems odd, no?

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
it gives me an error page, like it timed out or something, but the error comes up right after I hit direct download. redeeming codes is a no go as well. only the Switch works for everything which I find very odd and slightly annoying.

A Nintendo Account is required to purchase games through the My Nintendo Store. You do not need to have your Nintendo Switch with you, but your Nintendo Account must have accessed the Nintendo eShop on a Nintendo Switch system at least once before you can purchase digital games in the My Nintendo Store. To learn more about purchasing a game, please read How to Purchase or Pre-Order Nintendo eShop Games on Nintendo.com.
The error code may be helpful to figure out what the issue is. You can view the history of error codes here:
https://mysupport.nintendo.com/en-us/error-codes
You can also contact Nintendo Support, since you're a paying customer, and they'll want to help you buy more stuff. They have chat, phone, and text message contact options:

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
Nintendo’s year in review thing is up now.

The Switch was by far my least played console in 2024. Weirdly, it says I played 6 games when I only played 4. My wife plays Animal Crossing, but not under my profile, and I’ve only played Taiko under her profile, so I’m not sure where it’s getting those from.

It’s so weird. I can’t even get PlayStation store in Edge, but it works fine in Firefox. I dunno. It’s very odd. I’ll take a screenshot of error if ever I purchase again…in the next few minutes.

why does Switch have every other 2D Castelvania game except Symphony of the Night? i have it on another system, but i wanted to keep it all in Switch. just think it's odd, but i am sure someone here knows. thanks in advance.
