The joycons are prone to drifting. If they don't fix that design flaw on the Lite it's not going to be pretty.

I remember hearing that being talked about by some early on when the Switch first came out. I haven’t really heard of it being an issue still. I bought my Switch at launch and both of mine of my Joy Cons still seem fine.

Yeah, they largely fixed the drifting extremely early on in the Switch life cycle. I had that issue, called, they fixed it and had it back to me the same week. It has been fine ever since.

No, the problem with the early joycons wasn't drifting, it was connection issues (which they fixed with a piece of felt).
Many people have problems with the joycons eventually drifiting from the center. So for instance you won't be touching them but your character will still be moving in a game. This is due to the design of the joycon contacts, and also the accumulation of dust under the cap. It's also why you'll find many joycon stick replacements on amazon. You can usually "fix" the drifting at least temporarily by spraying electronic cleaner around the stick.

Okay, well I guess I remembered an issue with the Joy Cons early on but didn’t remember exactly what. I don’t think I’ve heard anyone before you brought it up mention the drifting issue. Not saying it doesn’t exist but I haven’t heard about it.
Either way I’d imagine that since the Lite doesn’t feature proper Joy Cons the drifting may be a non issue. They'll be manufactured differently.

Luigi's Mansion 3 has been given a release date of 10/31/19 (!) and has been added to the Voucher-Compatible Game list .
Reminder : The last day to purchase $99.99 Voucher 2-packs is 7/31/19. I have two ready to spend on Link's Awakening and Luigi Mansion 3. Strongly considering buying one more 2-pack. There's no promise yet, but I assume that Animal Crossing will be included in the near future and will come out within a year.

Nice. As soon as I read about the Joy-Con drifting problem here, it started on my Switch.

I really like the purple one too bad it isn't a "right" so I could pair it with my pink "left". I own two sets of joycons (red/blue & pink/green) even though I literally never play any other way than docked with my pro controller.

Joy Cons are the devil. They are the worst controllers ever made IMO. They take all the fun of playing a game like Super Mario Party by trying to do things with those tiny little buttons.

I've had issues with both sets of joycons I've bought, always the right one. Drives me up a wall since on the go play is constantly interrupted by it.

The eShop has Membrane on sale at 99% off, or 9¢. Pretty fun so far, especially at that price.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
My son is wanting a Switch for Christmas, so just now looking into it all. Quick question that is probably answered, but don't want to go back through this whole thread. Does the basic console come with everything you need to play two player games? If not, what else is needed? And lastly, some great single and/or two player games (son will be 7). Thanks!

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
If you buy the regular Switch, it comes with two "joycons" which allows you to play either as a single combined full featured controller or as two distinct controllers (with less buttons). It depends on the game whether the single joycons are usable.
If you buy the not-yet-out Switch Lite, it doesn't come with joycons, you can't dock it, you can only play portable so you cannot play two players out of the box.
Some great multiplayer games where you can play with single joycons:
Mario Kart
New Super Mario Bros. U (might be a bit hard for him)
Super Smash Bros
Super Mario Odyssey (has an easy mode and limited co-op)
Overcooked 1 or 2
SnipperClips
Mario Party

1. Put on the side of the Switch to turn it into a Handheld device
2. Put it in the included adapter to make a single, wireless handheld controller
3. Be used as two individual tiny controllers (that work for most multiplayer titles, stuff like Mario Party and Mario Kart).
I'd recommend throwing in a Switch Pro Controller to go with it, but that's just because I prefer it. If you buy another 2 Joy Cons + Adapter, then they'd technically be able to pull off 4 player in some titles.

Thanks guys! And no game comes bundled with the console (i.e. Wii Sports)? I will keep my eye open for deals on the console.

Correct; no free game with the Switch.
