Damn, end of the sim is treating me rough. I've had a huge shortage of blue & purple, which has killed my strategy of having magneto & storm back ragnarok. Started the evening first overall by about 3k points and it's been whittled down to 200. Waiting on healing now and hoping to win a couple near the wire to eke it out, though from what it sounds like, it won't be a huge loss if I don't get the invisible woman cover.

i'm going to end around top 10 or so. if i don't get top 10, the difference is only ISO, so I don't care that much.

As it winded down, I was 65 overall, 1 in the normal round, 60 in the hard. If that held, I think that was the first time I finished first in any of these things.

i hate how it takes longer for the alliance rewards. also odd, i got 1 reward from the easy mode, but not the hard mode. i now have at least 1 of each for falcon, though.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign
I hope I got Top 75 overall. I was ranked 74 with less than 1 minute left. I think I had around 68,000 points total.
I was Top 50 in each of the past sub-events. That was the last bracket for the 2-Star covers. Too bad there weren't alliance awards for the sub-events.
It also looks like the alliance made the Top 250, which should get us a Falcon cover.

I loved the surge at the end. We kept flirting with 250 till the last hour when it seemed like we jumped 20 spots. I'm just bummed I ended up 54th. I would have liked that second Falcon cover.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign
Falcon's yellow power is getting changed:
Old ability:
Inspiration - Yellow Passive
Falcon spreads his wings, motivating his teammates as he swoops into the fight. When the team makes a yellow match, Falcon improves the strength of 3 friendly Protect, Strike, or Attack tiles by 10 percent.
Level Upgrades
Level 2: Improves friendly tiles by 15 percent.
Level 3: Improves friendly tiles by 20 percent.
Level 4: Improves friendly tiles by 25 percent.
Level 5: Improves friendly tiles by 30 percent.
New ability:
Inspiration - Yellow Passive
Falcon spreads his wings, motivating his teammates as he swoops into the fight. When the team makes a yellow match, Falcon improves the strength of 2 friendly Protect, Strike, or Attack tiles by 7.
Level Upgrades
Level 2: Improves friendly tiles by 8.
Level 3: Improves friendly tiles by 10.
Level 4: Improves friendly tiles by 13.
Level 5: Improves 3 friendly tiles by 13.
Max Level: Improves 3 friendly tiles by 79.
As announced earlier, this ability needs to go to a static increase instead of a percentage. The percentage works great for scaling but works horribly for the character himself since it means that keeping Falcon at lower levels so that he doesn't tank any of the tiles is advantageous. Percentages also have the disadvantage of being great for high powered Strike/Protect/Attack tiles but fairly useless on low powered ones such as Storm (Modern)'s Hailstorm. Making the increase static instead of a percentage fixes these issues by allowing the value to scale by Falcons level. This means that it's important to level Falcon up to get more advantage from this skill. It also creates a strong reason for players to use Falcon with other characters that use lower powered tile placements as opposed to having him be at his strongest when dealing only with characters like Doom or Magneto.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign
Storm Modern is getting nerfed. Her green level 5 is dropping from 16 tiles to 14 tiles.
Old Ability:
Lightning Strike - Green 10 AP
Storm calls a blinding bolt of electricity from the heavens, shattering 8 tiles, doing damage and earning AP for each.
Level Upgrades
Level 2: Shatters 9 tiles.
Level 3: Shatters 10 tiles.
Level 4: Shatters 12 tiles.
Level 5: Shatters 16 tiles.
New Ability:
Lightning Strike - Green 10 AP

Level Upgrades
Level 2: Shatters 9 tiles.
Level 3: Shatters 10 tiles.
Level 4: Shatters 12 tiles.
Level 5: Shatters 14 tiles.
This little tweak came about as a result of her usage as AI in Simulators and her increasing usage in lower level Versus battles. While it still remains wholly effective, the loss of 2 AP per Lightning Strike (and associated fraction of a chance of a cascade as a result) keeps her from creating quite so much board destruction and repetitive turn over turn ability usage all at once.

Yeah, I think I put up between 2000 and 2500 points in the last half hour thanks to applying a bunch of boost cards (and my luck changing with the blues and purples). For those not using the cards, they're absolutely fantastic for jumping spots at the end of an event. They can put the hardest levels within reach if you play them right, allowing you to just pick whatever deadly-rated levels have the highest payouts. A pretty simple approach is to have a character with a powerful attack and another who can generate AP for that attack. Boost your starting AP for both the attack & the move that generates additional AP for it, as well as damage for the color of the attack. I won a couple rounds without the enemy getting to attack once.
I briefly lost 1st in The Sim last night, then took it back, along with getting 1st and top 10 in the two sub events. Between those and our Alliance rewards, I ended up with 3 Falcon covers, an Invisible Woman cover, a ton of ISO, some hero points and four of the event's version of Hero cards, which yielded me three 2-star covers and a 3-star Magneto, all of which I could use.
I'm seeing how it's going to be a bit of a grind to take the step up to 3-star characters. I'm sitting on close to 60k in ISO now, but can't raise any of the 3-stars beyond level 50. After reading that you have to get them to 100 to have them be the equivalent of a fully leveled 2-star, I'm inclined to keep hoarding ISO until I have enough covers to get someone that high all at once.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign
It was so much easier leveling up 3 star characters when the game first came out. There were only a handful of 3 star characters so you had a much better chance of getting covers. There's such a huge saturation of 3 star characters and it's only getting worse.

I waited too long in the Dr. Doom event to get going. If I had an extra hour, I would've been top 50 and had another Falcon cover. Oh well. I've got 4 of him and have him maxed out at lvl 30. Should help me in this event. I really want one of those red Wolvie patch covers. Love that character.

Chat seems to be working for me.
Just had a weird glitch in a round for the Falcon PVP event. Used my Classic Storm's blue move (1670 damage & stun target) against a team that also had Storm. The enemy Storm was under 1500 health and there were no special tiles on the board, but rather than kill her, my move left her with 7 health and it triggered her nuclear yellow option, aka ~2000 damage to each of my characters for each of hers still standing. Other enemy characters were Wolverine & Falcon, and I don't think either of those has a passive ability to reduce damage to their team. Oh well. Ought to be able to hit 5k for Season 1 at some point today and am hoping to get lucky with some 3*s.

I can open a slot, but it'll cost $8.50. If you're interested, send me a PM for Paypal info.
That's the actual cost. I bought a $50 iTunes card for $42.50. If I use that for a $50 package (8500 points) it'll be $0.005 a point. Opening another alliance slot is 1700 points. So it's $8.50.

Wonderful...MBoyd you'll find that over time your investment will pay for itself. We frequently get HP back as alliance awards.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign
I got my 10-pack for Season 1 yesterday and pulled 3 Bag-Mans, 3 Dakens, 3 OBW's and a Magneto Classic, so not great, but some useful stuff there. Given how long it's going to take to build a 3* roster, I went ahead and splurged with my ISO to upgrade OBW as much as I could (level 69). I'm already thinking it was a good move. I've now got four maxed 2* characters, along with a high OBW. So for PVP events with a featured hero, I can pretty much play a Magneto/Storm team to exhaustion and then sub in OBW/Thor (or OBW/Wolverine) and keep going. Having two viable teams of characters that complement each other makes a huge difference. Hopped up to #4 in the Falcon event pretty easily. I'm sure I'll lose a lot of points during the day, but am hoping to push the score for that one over 800 tonight and lock it in after midnight to guarantee a couple Patch covers tomorrow.
Also, welcome to the group MBoyd. Like Groucho said, we've got the Alliance to the point where we're consistently getting some good rewards, though it'll probably be quite a while before we could seriously contend for the top prizes.

When you're playing PvP. how often do you heal? Do you wait until you get down to a certain level? Or do you try to go into each match with full strength? I tend to run out of health packs pretty quickly, and I could probably use better management.
And when you're obviously losing the match, is it better to retreat or just go down fighting?

You can retreat from a match? How?
Currently, my only useable 2* hero is Thor (35 / 3,1,3). I have Storm Classic from the Prologue but she is level 9 with 1,1,1 and a bunch of 3* who need tons of covers to make viable. So, I've been using Thor, Iron Man 35, Storm Modern and good ol' Black Widow with Jugg thrown in as my main team.
Man, this game is such a grind..... but having a blast!
