New MB, memory, CPU. New Monitor. New GPU of course. I want one card that can push 4K decently.

I know that almost everything that's going to be able to do that is going to be released later this year, or earlier 2016. So Christmas 2016 present maybe?
Yeah, the next-gen GPUs (NVIDIA's Pascal line; whatever AMD does after their 300 series) should be able to push 4K 60fps in most games. Current-gen is not quite there, unless you want to spring for a second GPU or disable a lot of graphic settings.

If you're happy with ~30FPS @ 3840x2160 then both the Nvidia 980 Ti and (probably) AMD's upcoming Fury X (Fiji) will do it. Otherwise you'll need to go multi-GPU.

Both Nvidia and AMD kind of got caught by surprise at how quickly 2160p has been adopted, but they are both likely to be working on addressing these ultra HD resolutions with their next parts. That said, I think you'll still likely need multi-GPU to get 60FPS (or higher) with max settings on whatever are the newest games at that time.

I guess the Steam Controller release finally lit a fire under Microsoft's slow ass.

Xbox One Gamepad Wireless Adapter for PC coming this fall

On one hand, that's awesome. On the other hand, I actually prefer the Xbox 360 control pad to the Xbox One pad and use those as my PC game pads.

Not really, they announced it was coming this fall since some time last year. Likely because they will only support it on Win10 (until someone hacks the driver, probably).

I think you're getting confused. They already released the wired drivers for the Xbox One Controller for PC last fall, which work in Windows 7 & 8:
http://news.xbox.com/2014/09/xbox-on...er-for-windows

All you have to do is connect the Xbox One controller to the PC via a micro-USB cable, and the drivers automatically download and install.

At the time, they hadn't announced a wireless receiver for the PC for the Xbox One controller though:
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/mee.../1100-6422386/
This package does not, however, include a rechargeable battery, considering the controller is intended for use with a PC that you'll always be shackled to. That is, at least until Microsoft releases a wireless adapter for PC, as it did for Xbox 360 controllers, though the company has not yet indicated if it intends to release such a device.
This is the first official announcement of a wireless receiver for the controller.

Odd, I swear they discussed that a new adapter would be coming fall of this year many months ago (or last year even), but I couldn't find anything pointing towards that.

I was already well aware that you could use the Xbox One controller wired on the PC.

edit: Found it, back in March, so not as long ago as I thought initially, and all the said at the time was "later this year".

Re: PC Gaming Thread

I have the wireless adapter for the 360 and don't really feel the need to switch to XBox One controllers. At this rate, i'll probably keep using it until it or all my controllers die.

Re: PC Gaming Thread

Bought an Nvidia Reference GTX 970 today from Best Buy to replace a 770 that was having all sorts of issues (teaches me for buying a refurb). Was trying to hold out and just deal with it, but caved in since I happened to have a 10% off mover's coupon. Kind of dig the reference cooler on this thing.

For all the issues Batman has on PC, it runs pretty solid at 2560x1440 for me with the new card. Plus it preps me for Fallout 4 and probably Battlefront later this year. Anyone want to buy the additional digital code that they gave me for Arkham Knight since I already own it?

Looks like Good Old Games made a deal with Bethesda, so Fallout games are back on that service DRM free.

I think this is PC only for now, so posting here. Cliff Bleszinski (of Gears of War fame) announced his new free to play shooter LawBreakers.

Re: PC Gaming Thread

Glad you posted that from Cliffy B......looks interesting and I see a bit of Unreal Tournament in it. Like to hear more and glad he made reference to the fact it "could go to console if....."

It was sad though to see on other forums some were just ripping Cliffy B. as unimaginative, money hungry and not caring while calling what he has done like Gears of War basically a lame boring game. I'm personally glad he's back even though this is PC only.....for now.

Re: PC Gaming Thread

Anyone ever use an Alienware Alpha? I never heard of it, but a Gamespot article about the new Alienware Steam Machine mentioned it. They said the new upcoming Steam Machine is nearly identical to the older Alpha, except that the Alpha uses Windows instead of SteamOS. I looked on Amazon, and the Alpha base model is only $400. That seems like a decent deal for a low end gaming PC. I would prefer Windows over SteamOS too, so I don't see any real reason to go with the newer Steam Machine if it has the same internal parts.

There were reviews of the Alpha last year when it came out. Alienware released it with Windows and a 360 controller since they had the hardware, but SteamOS and the Steam Controller weren't ready. So the OS and the controller are the two main differences.

It's also advertised as "Steam Machine Ready" so you could install SteamOS onto it, maybe in a dual boot situation.

The main appeal is the compact, "console" size of it. If you're looking for a gaming PC to hook up to your TV in the living room, it may be a good fit. Otherwise, you can get a better value in terms of specs from a larger desktop machine, and it'll be more easily upgradable.

Re: PC Gaming Thread

System Shock: Enhanced Edition is currently on sale for $7.99 on Steam. Didn't even know this was a thing, but evidently it came out a month ago.

Now with 10x7 resolution support!

And mouselook, which is an even bigger deal. I remember this game being a huge PITA to play.

It was released on GOG a month ago as a time-limited exclusive, it just was released on Steam today.

Re: PC Gaming Thread

Takes some getting used to with each character. Easiest for me was Pharah since she's your basic rocket launcher prototype character. Or maybe Soldier 76 with a basic machine gun.

For a good time, add Noodles#1876
