I'm surprised to see Spelunky on there. I didnt know it was so important. I've never heard of Dwarf Fortress.
I would have thought Scorched Earth or Star Control 3 would have been on there. I guess in the pre-internet days, i didnt really know what games were popular

Here's the blurb on Spelunky - I also don't know anything about the game or what makes it meaningful/.
I have no idea what Roguelikes is.
Why it's important: As well as being one of the first games to establish Roguelikes as a thing, its use of Game Maker proved that you can make fantastic, totally respectable products in dedicated game making tools. They’ve come a hell of a long way since Klik and Play.

I assume it means the randomly created levels. The only reason i know about Spelunky is because it was free on PSN. I would have never know it was considered "important" lol.
what was that spaceship commanding computer game from around 5 years back. i think it had a three letter name. It was simple graphics with lots of text but i was amazed at how fun it was. I would have thought it would have made the list

A Roguelike is literally a game like the 1980 game Rogue. So it's a game genre in the same way that games in the FPS genre were originally called "Doom clones."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roguelike
Spelunky is actually considered by some to be a "Roguelike-like," or a game with Roguelike elements, but not entirely Roguelike. Procedurally generated levels and permadeath are two main features of a Roguelike, and used in many Roguelike-like games. Spelunky is thus the game that made Roguelike-likes a thing, not Roguelikes.

Admittedly my knowledge of PC games is quite limited. But I remember quite a few on that list. I was surprised that Command and Conquer wasn't on there. Perhaps some of the games I'm not familiar with on the list are very similar to it?

Command & Conquer (abbreviated as C&C or CnC) is a real-time strategy video game franchise, first developed by Westwood Studios. The first game was one of the earliest of the RTS genre, itself based on Westwood Studios' landmark strategy game Dune 2 and introducing trademarks followed in the rest of the series.

I'm guessing C&C wasn't considered different enough from Dune 2, especially considering the same game studio made both.

Atari Vault is coming to Steam in the spring. As someone who grew up with the Atari 2600 this is pretty exciting news.

Hopefully it's not too expensive. Doesn't say if the games are based on 2600, 5200, 7800, 800/800XL or arcade. Guess we'll find out at Pax South in a week.

Finished Undertale. Enjoyable, but way overrated. Don't really understand the GOTY hype but its a cute game with some sweet moments and good music. The "meta" aspect is neat, but not a fan of the initial ending and I had to look up what to do. Not a fan of the first ending and having to to do more for a "true" one, which I did do and feels almost necessary to have a real closure for the game. Would rather they didn't bother with that just to extend the game play.

I only played a bit of Fez and never tried Journey - it's kind of the opposite where it's crudely made but somewhat more interesting to play just to see how things unfold? It was refreshing to see this little indie game be much different from the games we get these days, but the hype and praise people lump on it seem weird.

That a pretty good price IMO. I've tried both the vive and the rift and I like the vive much better. This doesn't include integrated audio like the rift but you can use you own headphones anyway which is nice. But it does include the controllers which work pretty good.
Now bring on the games.

Re: PC Gaming Thread
My fiancee surprised me with an ASUS PG278Q monitor for our anniversary. G-Sync time! First time seeing it in action, only played around with Overwatch a bit but so far i'm impressed with how smooth it was. Hard to do a side by side comparison though. I'll need to try some other games.
I was on 27" 2560x1440 monitor already, but a little weird going from an IPS panel to a TN one and adjusting to the color and image quality.

Yeah, 25x14 144Hz G-SYNC is glorious. That Asus panel is awesome but I wanted to see if an IPS-type display like that would come out. Once the Acer XB270HU released, I jumped on it.
