The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong
I'd say the 10% discount has nothing to do with a "thank you" to customers. It sounds like the standard lazy promotion that would have been planned for right after Christmas as a way to try to get new PS4 owners to buy something digitally. When the apology gesture still involves making a profit on the sale on the part of the company, I really have to question the sincerity and validity of it in the first place.

Does anyone actually buy movies/tv shows on PSN? Even with dirt cheap sales, I don't personally see the point of limiting your viewing to one or two machines in your house.

I don't see why anyone would buy a digital movie/tv show with Netflix, Hulu and Amazon around. I know not everything is on those services, but still.

I saw a preview for a show coming to PSN on a DVD we rented. I think it was called Powers? It looked decent. I'll check it out if it's free to watch.

Playstation only drama series
Powers, an edgy dramatic series, follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, who are assigned to investigate cases involving people with superhuman abilities, referred to as “Powers.” Set amidst today’s paparazzi culture, Powers asks the questions, what if the world was full of superheroes who aren’t actually heroic at all? What if all that power was just one more excuse for mischief, mayhem, murder, and endorsement deals?
Enter the men and women of the Powers Division, the brave people in charge of protecting humans like us and keeping the peace over commercialized, god-like men and women who glide through the sky imposing their power over the mortals who both worship and fear them.

There's some additional PS Now discussion (including a list of games) in its own thread.

Finally getting a PS4. Late Christmas gift to myself. Was going to import the Dragon Quest Heroes Metal Slime edition but was able to score a deal on the GTA V bundle that included both GTA V and The Last of Us plus a 1 year PS Plus sub. I figured for $400 I couldn't go wrong but the Slime edition one would have been pretty damn cool. Just couldn't justify spending the extra $200 for a different color console.
Any suggestions on games that are must plays, besides TLoU and GTA V? I was thinking of getting Mordor and possibly Dragon Age since I didn't care for how it played on PC.

Welcome to the "Blue Side" Setzer....
That said I can say straight out maybe try Warframe...it's F2P off the bat and don't like it no problem. I played it more than any disc base games when I got my PS4 at launch. It still has a good following and it's actually quite fun though somewhat of a learning curve at first.
I've hear nothing but good stuff on Dragons Age and Shadow of Mordor which surprised everyone. Not sure if you're into Diablo but it was still on sale on the Sony Storefront as digital DL for around $35. Several here play it...I haven't in awhile since two of us are playing Destiny but I like it. We go back & forth on a few games.
And between now and the end of march bearing unforeseen setbacks....we have...
Dying Light - end of January
Evolve - first part of February
The Order:1886 - mid/late February
Bloodborne - end of March
If you caught a glimpse of or saw any of Infamous: Second Son we're getting for "free" a spin-off with Infamous:First Light this month.

Actually haven't had the chance to play Tomb Raider so I'll check it out. Diablo I already have on PC. Looking forward to playing both Dying Light & The Order: 1886! Also, MLB The Show should be in March as well. Definitely will be picking that up! Thanks for the recommendations!

If you don't care about rosters, The Show 2014 is only $20 at Best Buy this week. Along with Infamous, which is definitely worth $20.

One year later; that's a lot of consoles. Every time these type of numbers come out, I have to laugh at Gizmo's arguments that people weren't buying console's anymore.
Sony has sold more than 18.5 million PlayStation 4 consoles worldwide, the company announced in a press release today. According to Sony Computer Entertainment, 4.1 million of those sales came during the 2014 holiday shopping season, from Nov. 23, 2014 to Jan. 4, 2015.
The most recent official update from Sony on PS4 sales came last August, when the company said it had sold more than 10 million consoles through to consumers. In October, Sony's financial report indicated it had shipped 13.5 million PS4 consoles to retailers.
On the software side, Sony said 81.8 million PS4 games have been sold since the system's launch in Nov. 2013.
Sony also provided PlayStation Plus membership numbers, announcing that it had 10.9 million subscribers as of Jan. 2.

Didn't the 360 only sell less then 2 million, worldwide, it's first year, taking one more year just to reach 12 million?

The 360 was in tremendously short supply its first year. But had dispatched 1.5m consoles by the end of its first year so it's unlikely it took a full year to hit 2m.
