Yup. I also did the Internet connection test on the console. IP address found, internet connection good, hangs up at PSN and I have to cancel out.

And I just typed this on my phone using Wi-Fi.

Found a workaround online. Changed my MTU setting manually to 1473 and it worked. I went from wired to Wi-Fi to do this.

I read about that yesterday on pushsquare and forgot all about it. I'm glad you got it working!

Excellent job Michael....I'm sure you'll enjoy and have a bit of relief for awhile without the fear of overloaded. I too the 500gig HD and now use it as a backup on a external HD Easy Swap Thermallake BlackX.

That reminds me - I need to do something productive with my original PS4 drive after swapping it out for a 1 TB drive. I once paid $30 or $40 for a 128 MB flash drive (early days), and now I have a 500 GB drive sitting in a kitchen drawer.

It was easy for me to put mine in use since I just used a 2TB Seagate external HD, where all you had to do was open up the encasement to use it for the PS4, so now I have an external 500GB HD I use to play videos by hooking it up to my Xbox One.

I put mine into my PS3, so I could fill it up with a bunch of PS3 free games I'll never get around to playing. I do still use the PS3 as a secondary Blu Ray player though.

What's your primary Blu Ray player? I'll admit the lack of remote still keeps the PS4 behind the PS3 for me.

The PS4 and PS3 are the only Blu Ray players I've ever owned. I don't know what it feels like to have a remote for Blu Ray

PS4 network seems to be shaky right now. I had a friend go offline and not be able to log back on and my brother is trying to log on to no avail.

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

Thinking about upgrading the PS4 drive as well. Would I be able to use the smaller drive as an external with the Wii U?

I also am seeing PSN crap out. I completely turned it off, no stand by and back on and I could connect.

The physical install was easy as it goes. Hardest part was getting the notebook drive out of the factory enclosure without ruining the case.

Question though, I just booted up tonight and was treated to resetting up the PS4 again. Had to wire up the DS4, and go through the setup again. I had to put in my wi-fi info again, but after that my gamertag was still there and everything was hunky dory. Any ideas?

I don't see why not. I'm thinking I might just put mine in the PS4 box and forget about it in case I need to restore it to factory settings for some reason.

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

I decided to hold off upgrading my new PS4. By the time I fill up my 500GB, the price of the 2TB will be under $50, I figure it's worth waiting. Plus, a fresh drive a couple years in should extend the life of the system a bit longer on the back end of its life

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

Yea...after putting the new drive in and reloading, it's like firing up a new PS4 so you have to attach the DS4 for the unit to "see it". This is one set of instructions I followed...

https://support.us.playstation.com/a...pgrade-ps4-hdd

...and this one....

http://www.ign.com/wikis/playstation...PS4_Hard_Drive

As to holding off a new HD, if the console is "New" then I would to...but keep an eye on the HD in case it goes on sale. A 1TB might fall but a 2TB? As with anything it's called Price & Demand...and right now everyone out there now knows certain HDs are sought after for upgrading the PS4 HD and just think about how many new owners there has been since Christmas Day.

Right, I redid the setup immediately following the install. I played some games and shut down. Then upon booting up last night I had to go through the setup again.

I'm going to guess the "demand" and any affect on sales prices for hard drives based solely on people upgrading their PS4's is pretty minor.

Also, Sony is going to extend all PS Plus memberships by 5 days because of the outages and later will send out a 10% off coupon code - http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/...you/#sf6690761

Happy New Year! Since access to PlayStation Network was impacted during the holidays, we wanted to show our appreciation for your patience by offering all PlayStation Plus members that had an active membership or free trial on December 25th a membership extension of five days. The extension will be automatically applied, so no action is necessary to receive the extension. We will post additional information here on PlayStation.Blog when the extension becomes available. If your membership or trial ends before the extension is available, you will receive five days of Plus to enjoy once the extension becomes available (we will notify you when).

In addition, sometime this month we will announce that for a limited time, we will be offering a 10 percent discount code good for a one-time discount off a total cart purchase in the PlayStation Store as a thank you to all PSN members.

This discount can be used toward content available on PS Store including blockbuster new releases, award winning indie games, game add-ons and season passes, and an enormous selection of TV and Movies.

That's not nearly as good as the free game I was expecting. Oh well if nothing else, I'll save $3 on Pinball Arcade Season 2 & 4.
