Okay, fair enough. What does that do? Why would one want to have that done?
edit: Checking Google, I guess you need to turn it off to directly record video or some such thing. Won't ever be doing that myself.

It's for recording stuff with an external device, like a capture card. For the overwhelming majority of people, it makes zero difference in their lives.

It would be nice to be able to turn it off.

I bought one of these on eBay to help lower the light output. I don't want to use black electrical or duct tape to cover it up.

This, and all the other game trailers you posted look cool and all (and I'll most likely buy most of them), but there's something weird about playing these 16-bit looking games on a system as powerful as a PS4.

I agree that it doesn't fit the usual model of bigger/shinier $60 games that usually comes with a new console, but that "weirdness" is also what makes it brilliant.

And it's all complimentary to a steady stream of $60 eye candy like Killzone, Infamous, MLB The Show, Watch Dogs, Destiny, The Order, Driveclub, Arkham and more.

It's something to play, cheap, while waiting for the big games.

Do you have a link or a name for that? All i can find are stickers that cover the light.

Makes them sound like filler. I know that's not your intent, of course, but it sounds a little bit dismissive.

I think of them more as niche games that don't have to appeal to everybody to be successful because their dev costs are so low. But many of the niche who find an individual indie appealing will find it really really appealing whether it's for nostalgia or innovative gameplay, and a few indies will find a broad audience and make a ton of money.

They also give the PS4 relevance in a post-iOS world, where people have gotten used to buying cheap fun games on a whim or based on word of mouth.

Meh. I already have a million platforms where I can play low-res 2D pixelated games. And for a lot cheaper.

How does that even work? Wouldn't you have to remove the light or something - is that even possible?

I'm really not understanding what's going on it that picture - seems like a sticker, if it's not, I don't know what it could be.

HDCP is a copy protection kinda thingy. You have to output to an HDCP compatible TV (or other output) so that you don't copy the source. All current HD TVs are HDCP compatible, but the first batches in the early 2000s were not and wouldn't play some HD material from HDCP protected sources.

If I try and play a bluray movie on my computer through my Dell monitor, it gives me a message saying that it itsn't HDCP compliant. Literally, if I drag the window over to my second monitor (which is that 24" Playstation TV thing) it will play the movie.

There are a million cheap vehicles that I could drive to pick up a burger at McDonald's. I'd still rather cruise down on an AH-64D Apache helicopter.

It's a premium vinyl sticker.

Oh, I though he meant the actual "light output", as in from the source, not just something covering it up.

It was dismissive. Most do not feature innovative gameplay, but are still fun despite feeding off nostalgia for a good chunk of that. There are several titles that actually are memorable, well made and that stand on their own, but they're few and far apart (not unlike full price games). With that said, I'm glad The Swapper is finally coming out on consoles... But a majority of the indie games released are in-fact filler. It's an excellent strategy that both Sony and the Indie developers benefit off of.

They are definitely filler. A lot of those games have been out on other platforms for years. I want to see new games that take advantage of the PS4 hardware that I can't play anywhere else.

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

I actually agree...sort of.

Most look like filler to me as well, because they aren't for me, but they might be the most exciting thing ever for somebody else. And likewise, the shmups and metroidvanias that I get excited about might do nothing for others. It's a broader and more interesting market this way, and it's coming at a time when it was easy to get cynical about gaming becoming purely a AAA sequel factory.

And don't get me wrong. I don't think Sony invented the wheel here, but I think they are damn smart to embrace and promote the indie scene the way they have.

I agree it's smart, it's filler but it's something and probably reasonably entertaining, that's the important part.

HDCP off aka make professional reviewers stop bitching about the PS4.

If you think sharing is of not use for you, HDCP off is even of less use.

HDCP continues to work(ON) for bluray movies and that kind of stuff of course.

HDCP off helps if you're using a El Gato capture device or something similar too. Not everyone wants to livestream. Some want to edit their footage later.

I have the same ones. They're $2-$5 on ebay and totally awesome, IMO. I hated that blue light reflecting off my screen, esp. at night. Now it's much more subdued and hardly noticeable. You can get all kinds of designs.
