Thank you. Matthew was acting like that's some sort of great indictment of the system. You can infer all you want, but the reality of things is that the third party publisher displays used XOs in the most meaningless, unimportant game trade show of the year. Nothing more than that. Maybe they were showing the games on XOs because they're more playable on that system today. Maybe they showed them on XOs because they needed their available PS4s for the much-more important, nearly-simultaneous Gamescom and PAX show displays.

If you read my comments in both threads based upon my hands-on experience with both consoles, I gave my PS4 pre-order to a friend and am sticking with the Xbox One.
Microsoft not only had better content they were demoing, but both Activision and EA had us playing their games (Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, FIFA 14, and Titanfall) specifically on the XO. Sony gave us their B and C-list titles play (either F2P or games designed specifically for the PSN) and the only other developer who had PS4s with them was Activision with the latest Skylanders game. The games Sony brought with them for the PS3 (Beyond Two Souls, Batman: Arkham Origins, and Diablo III) looked better than the games I saw on the PS4.
I really wish I got to play Titanfall. All of the comments I heard post-expo were people saying it might be the game of the year for 2014.

(Personally, I want both of these consoles to be really strong and successful; heated competition makes 'em better, so everyone will ultimately win. I have both the PS4 and Xbox One on preorder, but the funny thing is that I think I'll be playing my PS3 and Wii U more in November/December!)

I'm sure games like BF4 and Ghosts will be identical on the systems, the PS4 is cheaper and I don't have to find a place to store a useless camera so unless something major changes, I'll eventually cancel my One preorder.

I don't think any of the launch retail exclusives look all that great. The driving games look good, but they always look good, even on current gen. Killzone is awfully pretty, but it's Killzone, and I have some fundamental gameplay issues with what I've seen of Knack and Ryse. Dead Rising is made by Capcom, who can't seem to get anything right other than Street Fighter, and I'm also just not crazy about that series.
But I am interested in the F2P and Indie stuff, and next spring will bring some great looking exclusives in Titanfall and Infamous.

Informal poll at PAX posted today from Games Radar. Bonus thoughtless irony at 0:50!

It's clear that the "advantage" is reducing with time, but even a 2:1 is great for the PS4 of course. We will see if they can keep it by November.
Oh, just watched the above video, we can disregard those results for any statistically meaning. But I still go by my first paragraph.

PS4 will have a good start but MS will catch up quickly once the novelty of the anti-MS movement wears off from E3. The tide is already turning the other way, and with Sony only having a bunch of indie games and crappy free to play games to showcase, many people are not impressed.

Man, this next generation hasn't even started yet and I'm already sick to death of it. Or at least, the internet's reaction to it.

Both look like HTPCs to me. Neither has "blown me away" but the PS3 is priced more appropriately for the advancement it offers.
The exclusive launch titles are weak across the board, I really do want to see some comparisons of the multi-platform titles.
I have to imagine a mid-range game (visually) like Ghosts will look identical on both consoles, I'm more curious about something like Battlefield 4 which was developed for DirectX 11.1, I imagine the Xbox One will have some advantages with that, as it includes Direct X 11.2 whereas the PS4 has some variation of version 11.1, though it's unclear what exactly that means.

I'm not buying either at launch but I will say that if they had Uncharted 4 ready I would buy in a heartbeat. But Sony isn't stupid and are most likely holding it for next year to fuel strength in the second year. Personally I think the PS4 is going to win out over XB1 just due to the stronger first party titles, Microsoft botching marketing, and people holding out because of the RROD fiasco from last time.

Oh I absolutely agree. I was just saying that a lot of folks still seem to think the PS4 already won and that it's over. In fact, it's shifting the other way and Sony needs to do something to hold onto their current lead. It's been all MS since E3, which is exactly what they needed. Now they need to bring back sharing via digital purchases and put Sony on their heels a bit

You've been far more over the top than anything chess has posted. You've been a clear MS homer for months. "Many people are not impressed?" Other than one person here (whose review was questionable at best) post some review links instead of speaking for other people.

Read any comments section for any article on any website. Instead of being 100% anti-MS, people are getting sick of some of the stuff Sony is doing and/or not doing. MS on the other hand is keeping things fresh and releasing lots of good videos and info almost daily.
Believe what you want, but MS will almost certainly take first place again the generation, and thankfully for Nintendo shooting themselves, Sony will hold on to second. Once the consoles launch and are out for a while, people will see that the Xbox has a lot more to offer in the long run, despite early "mistakes". I still believe that playing BluRay was the main reason the PS3 sold probably half of their units, and now that is no longer in their favor.
I'm officially done arguing about which system is better etc etc etc and will only post relevant information. You and chess (still sure you guys are the same) can continue to get super excited about F2P PC ports and budget indie titles

MS is keeping things fresh with the likes of Dead Rising 3, Ryse and the sought after and much anticipated Lococycle to go along with Forza 5! Neither platform is impressing at the moment with the titles they will release during their first three months. However, to say that they are keeping it "fresh" is fanboyism at its finest. I swear that some people on here feel like they are part of the machine and that your loyalty check will be in the mail soon.

I actually have no beef with you stu. At least you don't feign impartiality and are up front about where you stand, which is better than many.
I know it's been an emotionally trying couple of months, and I like your optimism. X1 will be fine in second place, and who knows, maybe Titanfall will give it some legs.

Re: What console are you buying at launch? (Post MS180 Edition)
On the flipside it seems MS could have announced a $750 pink & lime green machine that only plays CoD & Madden via Betamax, with a one analog-two button controller(no need for more buttons when you have Kinect) and you would have thought it was the greatest console announcement ever.
Point being, people hear what they want to hear. We chose to hear two different messages this summer and there's nothing wrong with that.
You enjoy your box and I'll enjoy mine. But to come in with doom and gloom "the tide is turning" and "people are disappointed about PS4" without a shred of evidence is just silly. The only reason why it seems the tide is turning is because X1 was dead in the water six weeks ago. Now it's slightly less so.
